
Class 2A Boys & Girls Basketball Daily Digest-Feb 22nd
We wrap up the semifinals in Class 2A tonight and we breakdown all the top matchups. We will have all District Championships set tonight. Good Luck to all top teams.

Class 2A Boys Daily Digest
District One (Semifinals hosted by Centauri HS)
#1 Sanford defeated Del Norte 57 to 30 in the first semifinal with Monte Vista defeating Sargent in the second semifinal. These two teams will meet Saturday at 6:30pm at Centauri High School.
District Two (Semifinals hosted by NJC)
The first semifinal features #1 Merino vs #4 Akron @5:30pm at NJC. Merino defeated Haxtun in the opening round 67 to 33 and Akron defeated Wiggins 36 to 32. Merino and Akron last played February 2nd with Merion winning 35 to 24. Merino was led by Kaden Piel who had 12 points while Akron was led by Anderson Filla with 8 points. Merino and Akron are both locks for regionals. Merino is at #2 and Akron is at #22 in the latest CHSAA Seeding Index.
The second semifinal will be the main event and features #2 Wray vs #3 Holyoke. Wray moved into the semifinals with a 78 to 47 win over Caliche. Holyoke advanced with a 69 to 44 win over Sedgwick County. These two last meet back in January with Wray snagging the 49 to 41 win over Holyoke. Expect another great matchup this time around. Wray had a trio of scorers break 10 points in Rafael Trejo, Aaron Tena, and AB Ruiz. Holyoke was led by Chase Johnson and Colby Weber both broke 8 points in the loss.
District Three (Semifinals hosted by Telluride HS)
District 3 finally gets underway tonight as all four teams in the district play in the semifinals. The first semifinal is #1 Mancos vs #4 Dolores. Mancos and Dolores last met in February with Mancos securing the big 61 to 33 win over Dolores. Mancos had four different players score over 10 points with Kail Wayman and Kaleb Schmitt leading the way. Dolores also had a pair of players score over 10 points in Mark Palate and Jonathan Purkat. Mancos is a lock for regionals at #12. Dolores would need to win the district tournament to get to regionals.
The other semifinal in district 3 pits #2 Telluride against #3 Ridgway at 8:30pm. These two teams last played on February 1st. Telluride was able to grab the 21 point win over Ridgway 78 to 57. Townes Merritt and Grayson Berry led the way for the Miners both breaking the 17 point mark while Ridgway was led by Jonathan Rytlewski and Henry Deppen both had 17 points. Telluride is a lock for regionals at #16. Ridgway is on the bubble but on the outside looking in. They need to upset Telluride and then possibly still need to win the district to get into districts.
District Four (Semifinals hosted by Platte Valley HS)
#1 Heritage Christian defeated Dayspring Christian 57 to 29 in semifinal #1 while #3 Union Colony Prep pulled the upset of #2 Loveland Classical 59 to 53. Heritage Christian will face Union Colony Prep tomorrow night at 5:30pm at Platte Valley HS.
District Five (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
The top 4 seed all advanced into the semifinals in District 5. #1 Plateau Valley will face #4 Hayden in semifinal #1. Plateau Valley received a bye into the semifinals. Hayden captured the win over #5 Rangely 56 to 50 to advance into the semifinals. Plateau Valley and Hayden last meet on 1/20 with Plateau Valley grabbing the 59 to 17. In the game Plateau Valley was led by Jack Vig (14 points) & Jackson Bevan (10 points). Hayden was led by Grady Frentress with 5 points. Plateau Valley is a lock for regionals at #4. Hayden is sitting at #34 and is just .0006 behind Hoehne. A win for Hayden will get them in but a loss does not eliminate them and will make things very interesting when we get an update tomorrow.
The second semifinal is a battle of Vail with #2 Vail Mountain against #3 Vail Christian. Vail Mountain advanced into the semifinals with a 74 to 19 win over West Grand while Vail Christian advanced into the semifinals with 57 to 30 win over Soroco. Vail Mountain and Vail Christian last meet on February 2nd with Vail Mountain squeezing out the 54 to 50 win over Vail Christian. Vail Christian had a pair of player score in double figures with Christian Mills (20 points) leading the way and Jack Schwartz (13 points) as the #2 scorer. Vail Christian was led by Will Neumann with 15 points and Asher Leonard with 14 points. Both Vail Christian and Vail Mountain are locks for the regional field.
District Six (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
E#1 Crowley County advanced into the Championship with a 51 to 29 win over Walsenburg and Holly advanced into the championship with the 52 to 50 win in 2OT over Fowler. Crowley County will face Holly in the championship at 2:30pm at La Junta HS and Walsenburg will face Fowler in the 3rd place game at 11:30am.
District 7
Semifinal #1 features #1 Denver Christian vs #5 Front Range Christian @8:30pm. Denver Christian received a bye into the semifinals and Front Range Christian advanced into the semifinals with a 58 to 46 upset of #4 Denver Academy. Denver Christian and Front Range Christian last meet on February 3rd. Denver Christian did not put stats in for the game, but Front Range Christian was led by Ethan Martin with 11 points. Denver Christian is a lock for regionals, but Front Range Christian would need to win the district to get into regionals.
Semifinal #2 features #2 Golden View Classical vs #3 Addenbrooke Classical. Golden View Classical moved into the semifinals with a bye while Addenbrooke Classical defeated Gilpin County 76 to 28 to move into the semifinals. Addenbrooke Classical and Golden View Classical have not meet this season. Golden View Classical sits at #25 in the Seeding Index and are a near lock for regionals. Addenbrooke Classical sits at #30 and a win over Golden View should punch their ticket but a loss will make them wait things out.
District 8 (Higher Seed hosts Quarterfinals)
The very competitive District 8 gets their semifinals underway tonight. #1 Simla will face #4 Byers in one semifinal. Simla advanced into the semifinals with a 62 to 24 win over ECA while Byers advanced into the semifinals with a 67 to 47 over Elbert. Simla and Byers last meet back in January with Simla taking the 76 to 45 win over Byers. Simla has not posted stats this season. Byers was led by Quincy Eacret who scored 17 points in the loss. Both Simla and Byers are locks for regionals.
The final semifinal of District 8 should be a good one pitting #2 Limon vs #3 Burlington. Limon moved into the semifinals with a dominate 75 to 45 win over Dolores Huerta. Burlington moved into the semifinals with a tough 49 to 43 win over CS School. Limon and Burlington last meet 2/3 with Limon holding off Burlington for the 60 to 49 win. Limon was led by Jordan Rockwell who had 29 points and Treyton Marx pitched in another 21. Burlington was led by Keziah Williams who had 22 points. Limon and Burlington are both locks for regionals.

District One (Semifinals hosted by Centauri HS)
#1 Monte Vista defeated #4 Del Norte 40 to 30 to advance into the Championship and #2 Sanford defeated #3 Sargent 40 to 24. #1 Monte Vista will play #2 Sanford at 5pm on Saturday.
District Two (Semifinals hosted by NJC)
#1 Merino got the win over #8 Haxtun 73-33. They will face #4 Akron who got the win over #5 Wray 45-33. In the Akron Vs Wray game, Kinsey Grauer scored 18 points to help lead the team to a win. In the previous match up between these two teams, Merino won 54-42 and 50-26. Both Merino and Akron are locks in regionals.
#2 Sedgwick County beat #7 Holyoke 45-35. Abigail Dille was the high scorer for this game with 26 points. They will face #3 Wiggins who beat #6 Caliche 37-29. There were a lot of scorers for Wiggins which helped them get the win including Riley Hunt who had 9 points. Earlier in the season when these teams met, Sedgwick County got the win 53-37 and 49-30. Sedgwick County and Wiggins are both locks in regionals.
The winners of these two games will face one another on 2/24 at NJC.
District Three (Semifinals hosted by Telluride HS)
#1 Mancos will face #4 Telluride in the Semifinals of their District tournament. The first time these teams met, Mancos beat Telluride 55-13 where Claire Goodwin from Mancos scored 28 points and Quinn Paczosa and Fianna Ahern from Telluride both scored 4 points. Most recently, Mancos beat Telluride 53-10 where Mancos players Quincy Montoya scored 15 points and Claire Goodwin scored 19 points. Mancos is a lock for regionals while Telluride would need to win the District Tournament to get in.
#2 Ridgway will face #3 Dolores. In previous matchups, Ridgway beat Dolores 55-32 and 36-34.In the first game, the high scorer for Dolores was Taylor Erautt with 13 points, and for Ridgway it was Maddie Miller with 15 points. In the most recent match-up, the High scorers were Keeley Clarke with 16 points and Elle Borsari with 17 points. Dolores would need to win the District Tournament to get to regionals. Ridgway has an outside shot at an at-large berth but need to win this semifinal game.
The winners of these games will face-off in the District 3 championship on 2/24 at Telluride High School.
District Four (Semifinals hosted by Platte Valley HS)
#1 Dayspring Christian defeated #5 Union Colony Prep 54 to 8 to advance into the Championship. We are still waiting for a score between #2 Heritage Christian and #3 Loveland Classical. The winner will face Dayspring Christian tomorrow at 3:30 at Platte Valley HS.
District Five (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
#4 Hayden beat #5 Soroco in the first round of play 50-38 and will face #1 Rangely in the Semifinals round. The last meeting between Hayden and Rangely resulted in a win for Rangely 64-34. High scorers for this game were Miah Wren from Rangely with 20 points and Jenna Klecker with 16 points from Hayden. Rangely is a lock for regionals. Hayden is at #39 and need the upset of Rangely to have a shot at regionals.
#3 West Grand got the win over #6 Vail Christian 61-7 and will face #2 Plateau Valley. The previos meeting between West Grand and Plateau Valley gave the win to Plateau Valley 30-39. The high scorer of this game were Sara Lechman with 8 points from West Grand and Meloni Miller with 12 points from Plateau Valley. West Grand and Plateau Valley are locks for regionals.
The winner of these games will play in the Die Beque High School.
District Six (Higher Seed Hosts Quarterfinals)
Hoehne moved into the championship with a dominate 73 to 30 win over Crowley County while Fowler also picked up the 47 to 23 win over Las Animas to advance. Hoehne will face Fowler at 1pm at La Junta HS.
District 7
#1 Denver Christian will face #4 Golden View in the District 7 semifinals round. These teams have not met up yet this season, and should be a good match. Denver Christian is a lock for regionals. Golden View Classical would need to win the District Tournament to get into regionals.
#2 Gilpin County will face #3 Addenbrooke Classical to move onto the District 7 championship. These team also have not met this season and should also be an exciting match-up. Gilpin County is a lock for regionals sitting at #24. Addenbrooke Classical is on the bubble at #33 and probably need the upset of Gilpin County to try and jump the #32 team.
The winners of these games will play in the championship and the losers will battle for 3rd place, all which will be held at Dakota Ridge High School.
District 8 (Higher Seed hosts Quarterfinals)
#1 Burlington defeated #8 Dolores Huerta 76-15 and will move on to face #4 Evangelical Christian who beat #5 Byers 37-32. The last time Burlington and ECA met, Burlington got the win 59-38 where Kiyarra Williams of Burlington was the high scorer with 21 points. Both Burlington and ECA are locks for regionals.
#2 Simla was able to get the win over #7 Calhan 67-16 and will now face #3 Limon who beat #6 Elbert 61-30. Simla and Limon have already met up this year which resulted in a win for Simla 51-36 where the high scorers were Gianna Humphrey with 10 points from Limon and Katie Gotschall with 13 points from Simla. Simla and Limon are both locks for regionals.
The winner of these games will play in the District 8 championship on 2/24 at Kiowa High School.
