Class 4A Boys State Tournament Predictions
Not a ton of upset in the opening round and should make for a great Sweet 16. I expect a few more upsets in this round but should be a great round of basketball. The Boys Elite 8 plays on 3/2 at the Denver Coliseum.
Bert Borgman Region
#1 Kent Denver over #16 Pueblo Central
This could be a much better game than seeding indicates. Pueblo Central played a tough schedule all year and will be battle tested. Kent Denver will look to avoid the fate it suffered against the #16 a season ago.
#8 Severance over #9 DSST-Green Valley
This will be a great matchup between two teams who are playing good basketball. Both teams were tested in the opening round and should make for a great Sweet 16 battle. This will be one of the better matchups in the sweet 16.
Tom Robinson Region
#5 Colorado Academy over #12 Peak to Peak
Who does not love a league rivalry game in the Sweet 16 of the State Tournament. Should be a great battle like the previous two which were decided by less than 10 points.
#13 Holy Family over #4 Pagosa Springs
Holy Family played the upset role last season upsetting the #1 seed and this year will look to repeat that feat. They played a tough schedule and that is why they are a #13 seed. Pagosa Springs has also been battle tested and could come down to experience.
Jim Dorsey Region
#2 Resurrection Christian over #15 Fort Lupton
Fort Lupton proved me wrong in the open round defeating Eaton and now will look to prove me wrong again. Resurrection Christian was tested in the opening round by a Basalt team who slowed the tempo to a snails pace.
#10 Aspen over #7 DSST-Montview
This is another one of my upset picks of the sweet 16. Aspen at times has proven it can beat anyone, but other times has lost some interesting games. If they play at their top game, they can win. DSST-Montview has been consistent all season and that could prove to be the difference.
Erik Melgoza Region
#6 Riverdale Ridge over #22 Coal Ridge
Coal Ridge pulled one of the bigger upsets of the opening round and will look to keep the dancing going. Riverdale Ridge was also tested in the opening round by a tough TCA team.
#3 Lutheran over #14 DSST-Conservatory.
DSST-Conservatory picked up a very nice win in the opening round and showed they are a threat. Lutheran took care of business against their opening round opponent and look to advance into the Elite 8
