Class 1A Girls Basketball Regional Predictions

Regionals is here and it’s win or go home time.  Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship.  To reach the state tournament is simple.  Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament.  They will reseed the State Tournament based off the final Seeding Index published after Districts.  Remember this is just our opinion and we are not cheering against any team.  We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point.  Good Luck to all 32 teams!

Region 1 at McClave

#1 McClave over #32 La Veta

#17 Sangre De Cristo over #16 Hi-Plains

I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one.  Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state.  I don’t see McClave being upset in the first round.

#1 McClave over #17 Sangre De Cristo

McClave has proven to be a top team all year and will look to get to state.  Sangre De Cristo will have to play their most complete game to try and pull the upset.

Region 2 at Stratton

#2 Stratton over #31 Front Range Baptist

#18 Otis over #15 Springfield

Otis vs Springfield should be a great game.  That comes down to the wire.  I do think Otis is playing their best basketball and get by Springfield.

#2 Stratton over #18 Otis

Stratton has proven to be a top team in 1A and will look to dominate against a league opponent.  Otis as mentioned is playing their best basketball but not sure if they can spring the upset.

Region 3 at Flatirons Academy

#3 Flatirons Academy over #30 Sierra Grande

#19 De Beque over #14 Rocky Mountain Lutheran

Rocky Mountain Lutheran vs De Beque should be a good matchup.  I have some concerns about RML schedule as they were not tested besides their big losses to Flatirons Academy.  De Beque played a tough schedule and I think move past RML

#3 Flatirons Academy over #19 De Beque

Flatirons Academy is a top team in Class 1A and will look to advance to the State Tournament.  De Beque will give them their best shot but I think Flatirons Academy moves on.

Region 4 at Briggsdale

#4 Briggsdale over #29 Hanover

#13 Prairie over #20 Cheraw

Prairie vs Cheraw should be a good matchup.  Prairie is playing solid basketball, but Cheraw does come in on a bit of a slide.  I still expect a great opening round matchup.  Briggsdale I think moves into the finals.

#4 Briggsdale over #13 Prairie

Briggsdale vs Prairie part 3 is very possible.  Both previous games were 10 and 13 so I expect the third matchup to be a little closer.  I do think the playoff experience Briggsdale has will be key to helping them get back to State.

Region 5 at Idalia

#5 Idalia over #28 Kim/Branson

#12 Fleming over #21 Granada

Both high seeds will be favored in these matchups.  This is key experience for both higher seed teams (Kim/Branson & Granada). 

#5 Idalia over #12 Fleming

Idalia already defeated Fleming this season by 10 and expect this to be a much closer battle this time around.  Fleming always seems to play their best in the postseason and we will see if they can pull the upset.

Region 6 at Dove Creek

#6 Dove Creek over #27 Lone Star

#11 Cheyenne Wells over #22 Arickaree

I don’t see either high seed being upset in the opening round.  I think Arickaree could push Cheyenne Wells but both Dove Creek and Cheyenne Wells are playing good basketball.

#6 Dove Creek over #11 Cheyenne Wells

I think this is one of the best matchups in the regional finals.  Dove Creek vs Cheyenne Wells is two team playing their best basketball of the season!  Dove Creek has the edge with state tournament experience but I wouldn’t be surprised if CW pulls the upset.

Region 7 at South Baca

#7 South Baca over #26 Flagler

#10 Kit Carson over #23 Mile High Academy

Both high seeds will be favored in their matchups.  I do think Flagler has shown glimpses of being able to contend with top teams and could challenge South Baca. 

#10 Kit Carson over #7 South Baca

This is another great matchup that is possible in the regional finals.  Kit Carson played well in the district tournament, but South Baca did win their district.  I think this is a good matchup, but Kit Carson gets to state.

Region 8 at Kiowa

#8 Kiowa over #25 Nucla

#9 Eads over #24 Genoa-Hugo

Kiowa vs Nucla really intrigues me.  Nucla is much improved this year but are they ready for the next step is the question.  Kiowa has been a staple at regionals.

#9 Eads over #8 Kiowa

Eads ended the year losing two straight but I think they get things rolling again heading into the state tournament.  Kiowa will look to reach the state tournament something they have just missed out on.
