
CLASS 3A GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM CAPSULES
The Class 3A Boys State Basketball Tournament will be played at the University of Denver with the first quarterfinal starting at 8:45am on Thursday. #1 Peyton
Peyton hosted their region this last week. In their first game of regionals, they defeated Lyons 90-13 where AJ Mannering had 41 points. In the second game they faced St. Mary’s Academy and were able to beat them 77-38. In this game, AJ Mannering had 37 points and Abbie Nickell had 17 points. The Panthers have faced three other state tournament teams this season and have gone 3-0 against them. They will face Strasburg in the first round of the State tournament at DU in Denver at 11:45am on 3/7.

#9 Strasburg
Strasburg traveled to Bennett last week to play in regionals. The first round was against Ellicott. Aubrie Archuleta scored 14 points that game to help her team win 69-29. They then advanced to play Platte Valley and Natalie Damron scored 18 points to help lead her team to a 75-26 victory. Strasburg has played Highlands twice this season and lost to them both times and they beat Yuma once in a close game (54-48). They will face Peyton in the first round of the State tournament at DU in Denver at 11:45am on 3/7. The last time these teams met earlier this season, Peyton got the win 55-34.

Yuma hosted their region last week and faced Brush and Montezuma-Cortez to advance to the state tournament. In the game against Brush, Jade Lungwitz score 13 points to help the team win 64-23. Against Montezuma-Cortez, Lungwitz scored 13 and Berkley Nighswonger scored 12 to help lead Yuma to victory 51-29. Yuma is 1-2 agaisnt other State tournament teams this season and will face Centauri to kick off the State tournament at 7:00pm on 3/7 at DU in Denver.

Centauri was the host for their region last week and faced Thomas MacLaren School and Cedaredge to advance to the State tournament. Against Thomas MacLaren Braelyn Tucker scored 22 points to help the Falcons win 67-21 and against Cedaredge, Hannah Curtis scored 11 to be the high scorer of that game and help them win 41-13. Centauri has only faced CSCS this season out of the State tournament teams and lost to them 35-45. The Falcons will face Yuma in the first round of State at 7:00pm at DU on 3/7.

#2 Colorado Springs Christian
Colorado Springs Christian hosted their region last week after maintaining their perfect season record. In the first round of regionals, the Lions faced Gunnison and beat them 69-20. In this game, Grace Minihane had 28 points to help lead her team to victory. In the final round of regionals, CSC beat Olathe 80-25 where Minihane had 28 points and Kinley Asp had 16 to secure the win and advance to the state tournament. The lions are 3-0 against other state tournament teams faced in the season and will be facing Highlands in the first round at 8:45am at DU in Denver on 3/7.

Highland was the host for the region this season. In the first round of regionals, the Huskies faced and beat Prospect Ridge Academy 60-27 where Abbie Martinez and Briza Flores both scored 14 points. In the final regional round, Highland faced Roaring Fork, Briza Flores scored 29 points, and the Huskies won 64-56. Highland is 2-1 against other State tournament teams and will face Colorado Springs Christian on 3/7 at 8:45am at DU to kick off the State tournament.

The team has face CSCHS twice this season and lost both times but have not faced any other State tournament opponents. They will face Grand Valley at 4:00 on 3/7 at DU in the first round of the State tournament

In the final round of regionals, the Cardinals face Salida and beat them 52-32 where Medina had 16 points and Taylor Pittman had 12. They have yet to face any state tournament teams and will face St. Mary’s at 4:00 on 3/7 at DU in the first round of the State tournament.
