
Class 2A Boys State Tournament Basketball-Thursday
#1 Simla vs #8 Fowler
The opening boys game of the Class 2A State Tournament Started tightly contested. Simla quickly jumped out to a 7 point lead using their 1-2-2 halfcourt to force some turnovers. Fowler quickly answered the run of Simla with a 7-0 run themselves and took the lead about midway thru the 1st quarter. Simla responded with a 5-0 run themselves to take a 10 to 7 lead to end the 1st quarter. Simla defensively ratcheted up the pressure and pushed the lead back to 7. Fowler would not go away and had a 9-0 run to tie things up with 4 minutes left in the second quarter. Simla would respond by once again ramping up the pressure and would take a 26 to 16 lead into halftime. The big take away was Simla winning the turnover battle 12 to 5. Simla would come out after halftime explosive going on a 11 to 4 run and taking their largest lead of the game at 17 and holding the 37 to 20 lead. Simla pushed the tempo offensively in the quarter. Simla would not let Fowler cut the lead under 10 again the rest of the game. Fowler would make things interesting again early in the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 14 but Simla once again used their defense to put the game away. Simla would win 54 to 30 to advance to the Semifinals.
