Quick Recap of Class 2A Friday Semifinals

#5 Limon over #1 Simla 49 to 42
Round 4 of Limon vs Simla and it lived up to the hype. Simla would jump out to a quick 16 to 7 lead using their defense and shooting well from outside hitting 4 3-pointers in the quarter. Limon would respond in kind with a 14 to 7 second quarter. Defense was key to the Limon quarter and we would go into halftime with a 23 to 21 Simla lead. Limon would come out after halftime continuing with physical play and winning another quarter 10 to 7 and Limon would take the 1-point lead into the fourth quarter 31 to 30. Limon would push their lead to near double digits in the fourth quarter behind a huge 6-point quarter by both Mason Jaques & Aiden Kollath. #3 Burington over #7 Wiggins 40 to 38
We kicked the Semifinal round off with Burlington vs Wiggins and boy we were treated with a great game to kick things off. Wiggins took control early in the game using their suffocating defense to hold Burlington to just 6 points in the 1st quarter and holding the 8 to 6 lead. The second quarter saw the scoring increase, but Wiggins would hold the 20 to 16 lead into halftime. Burlington would take their first lead of the game in the third quarter and had a big quarter outscoring Wiggins 12 to 4 and holding the 28 to 24 lead. Things would stay interesting in the final quarter of play. Both teams would play excellent defense and the game would be decided in the final seconds of the game. Wiggins had a shot at winning or forcing OT with the final shot and were not able to convert. Burlington would advance into the State Championship with a 40 to 38 win.
State Leaders:
Burlington: Bethany Cure (16 points), Trinitee Holmes (10 points), and Kiyarra Williams (8 points).
Wiggins: Kennedy Kerr (15 points), Tyleigh Fehseke (8 points), and Aubryn Ferguson (6 points).
#1 Merino over #5 Simla 54 to 44
Don’t let that final score fool you this was a fantastic game and would come down to the wire. Simla would handle the press well and force Merino into a half court game in the first half. Simla would lead after the first quarter 15 to 13 but a late run by Merino in the second quarter would give them the 2-point lead and the 24 to 22 lead. The 3rd quarter would see each team take a lead and the game was very much up in the air at this point. Merino would take the lead to end the 3rd quarter 37 to 34. The fourth quarter saw Merino defensively turn things up and the pressure would start to pay off. Kya Piel also took over at this point in the game scoring 10 points in the quarter. Merino would outscore Simla in the fourth quarter 19 to 10 to secure the 56 to 44 win over Simla. As mentioned this was a great game by both teams. Merino advances into the Final Four to face Burlington at 5pm on Saturday.
Stat Leaders
