Congratulation to your Class 3A Girls State Champions and State Tournament Recap
Congratulations to the C.S Christian Lions on winning the Class 3A State Tournament. C.S Christian captures back-to-back State Titles in dominating fashion.
The Class 3A State Tournament Field was set with what most people assumed were the top 8 teams in Class 3A Girls. Most people had one matchup for the State Title game, and it would happen. The opening round of the Class 3A State Tournament saw just 1 game decided by single digits and that was #6 St. Mary’s upsetting #3 Grand Valley 40 to 35. St. Mary’s used a big 18 to 9 3rd quarter to secure their lead and a 9 to 7 fourth quarter to hold off the late run by Grand Valley. Another closely contested game was #5 Yuma defeating #4 Centauri 44 to 29. This was a close game, but Yuma used a 12 to 6 second quarter and 10 to 4 fourth quarter to secure the win. The other games in the opening round were Peyton over Strasburg 53 to 38, this was just a 3-point game at halftime but Peyton got the offense rolling in the second half. C.S Christian over Highland 54 to 23 was the final game of the first round.
The Championship semifinals got started with a blowout win by C.S Christian defeating St. Mary’s 53 to 8. C.S Christian dominated in this matchup, and I believe was 18 to 2 at halftime. C.S Christian would have the 34 to 2 lead going into the fourth quarter and cruise to the win. The other Semifinal was a much closer game as Peyton held off Yuma 36 to 28. Peyton and Yuma would be tied heading into halftime at 16. Peyton would continue to face a stingy Yuma defense and score just 5 points but would also match with their own great defensive effort holding Yuma to just 4 points. Peyton offensively would then get going in the fourth quarter outscoring Yuma 15 to 8 and secure their spot in the state championship 36 to 28.
Championship Saturday got started with a great game between Yuma and St. Mary’s. Yuma jumped out to a 17 to 11 lead in the first quarter and would look to defend their lead. Yuma continued what they do best and play defense holding St. Mary’s to just 2 points in the second quarter. St. Mary’s would make their run in the 3rd quarter outscoring Yuma 11 to 5 and cutting the lead to just 2. Yuma would then look to their defense to help them secure the 32 to 30 win over St. Mary’s. The State Championship would feature #1 Peyton vs #2 C.S Christian. This is the matchup everyone wanted, and we all got it. C.S Christian would come out hot and set the tone early. C.S Christian would open the game with a 12 to 5 lead after the first quarter and expand it going into halftime at 28 to 13. Peyton would respond in the 3rd quarter cutting into the lead and winning the third quarter 13 to 9 but still trailed 37 to 26. C.S Christian would close things out with a big 22 to 6 fourth quarter to help them capture their second straight state championship.
Once again congratulations to the C.S Christian Lions on capturing their back-to-back Class 3A State Championship.
