Class 1A Baseball Regional Projections

Class 1A Baseball Regionals are done a bit different than the rest of the Classes. Class 1A still plays a district tournament with the District winner all qualifying for State. The district winners are seeded 1-5 with the top 4 district winner hosting regionals. If your district has more than 5 teams than they automatically qualify 2 teams. This season District 1, 2, 4, and 5 all automatically qualify 2 teams. The remaining 7 teams will be picked off the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.

District Tournaments begin week of April 29^th, Regional Tournaments are May 11^th, and 1A State Championship is May 16^th.

District Champions Predictions

District 1 Champion: Nucla (23)

District 1 Automatic Berth: Dove Creek (22)

Seeding will be key for this district tournament. If the season ended today, then Sierra Grande would face Nucla in the District Semifinals with Dove Creek facing Antonito. I think Nucla and Dove Creek meet in the District Finals with the winner coming down to if either team kept their Ace for the game. 1^st and 2^nd will get automatic berths if they have 5 teams in the District Tournament.

District 2 Champion: Simla (8)

Simla will be the favorite heading into the District Tournament with ECA and Elbert as the main contenders. I believe District 2 is seeded by their standings and Simla would face Kiowa in the Semifinals, ECA and Elbert would have to square off in the semifinals. 1^st and 2^nd will get automatic berths if they have 5 teams in the District Tournament.

District 3 Champion: Flatirons Academy (4)

With only two teams in District Three the winner will get the automatic berth. Flatirons Academy will face Rocky Mountain Lutheran. RML needs to win the district tournament to get into regionals so they will be playing for that.

District 4 Champion: Stratton (6)

District 4 Automatic Berth: Holly (7)

This is going to be a battle for the district crown. 1^st and 2^nd will get automatic berths into regionals. 5 teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack and should make for a fun District Tournament. Stratton is my pick as the early favorite but depth at the pitching position will be key.

District 5 Champion: Haxtun (2)

District 5 Automatic Berth: Akron (1)

Haxtun took a pair of games from Akron and moves up to my pick as the district winner. 1^st and 2^nd get automatic berths into regionals. I believe this is a 3-team race for the District title and who has depth with pitching will be key.

*This is assuming that District 1 gets two teams automatically into regionals. If not the #16 seed would be Wiley if District 1 only gets one automatic berth.
