Class 1A Baseball Regional Projections
Class 1A Baseball Regionals are done a bit different than the rest of the Classes. Class 1A still plays a district tournament with the District winner all qualifying for State. The district winners are seeded 1-5 with the top 4 district winner hosting regionals. If your district has more than 5 teams than they automatically qualify 2 teams. This season District 1, 4, and 5 all automatically qualify 2 teams. The remaining 9 teams will be picked off the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.
District Tournaments are underway currently, Regional Tournaments are May 11th, and 1A State Championship is May 16th.
District Champions Predictions
District 1 Champion: Nucla (21)
District 1 Automatic Qualifier: Dove Creek (23)
The District Tournament is not underway yet. Nucla will face Sierra Grande and Dove Creek will face Antonito. Since only the District Champion will automatically get in both games will be impactful. Nucla and Dove Creek will need to win the district to get to regionals and Sierra Grande is right on the bubble at #12. More than likely you will need to be in the top 14 of the seeding index to get in.
District 2 Champion: Simla (8)
Simla will be the favorite heading into the District Tournament with ECA and Elbert as the main contenders. Simla will face Kiowa in the opening round with ECA and Elbert squaring off. This district tournament gets underway on Saturday. Simla, Elbert, and ECA are all inside the top 12 currently. Elbert is at #10 and ECA at #11.
District 3 Champion: Flatirons Academy (4)
With only two teams in District Three the winner will get the automatic berth. Flatirons Academy will face Rocky Mountain Lutheran. RML needs to win the district tournament to get into regionals so they will be playing for that.
District 4 Champion: Stratton (6)
District 4 Automatic Berth: Holly (7)
This is going to be a battle for the district crown. 1st and 2nd will get automatic berths into regionals. Stratton is my pick as the early favorite but depth at the pitching position will be key. The top four seeds in the District Tournament have advanced into the Semifinals. Stratton vs Wiley and Eads vs Holly. Stratton, Holly, and Eads I feel confident will make it to regionals as they all sit inside the top 10 currently. Wiley is at #13 and will be right on the bubble. La Veta is also in the mix at #15, but could be the first team out. McClave is probably on the outside looking in at #18.
District 5 Champion: Akron (1)
District 5 Automatic Berth: Haxtun (2)
The top four seeds on the District Tournament have advanced. The semifinals should have some great games as Akron will face Otis and Haxtun will face Merino. All four teams are locks in for regionals but fighting to host is on the line. Caliche sits right on the bubble at #14 and Peetz would be the second team out at #16 unless the District 1 tournament goes different.
