
Class 3A Softball Weekly Recap and Preview

This week is a big week for most teams before they start league play. We will take a look at where our top 16 teams are at so far in the season, who they will be playing in the next few days, and which players are leading their teams so far this season.

1. Eaton (7-0)
Eaton enters the third week of play with a still perfect record of 7-0, beating their opponents Wellington (10-0), Meeker (23-4), Lamar (12-2), Rocky Ford (13-1), Delta (13-1), Berthoud (15-4) and most recently, Severance (13-4). This week, league games will begin for the Reds and their first pitch of league will be against Strasburg on the road on 9/5. The team will then be playing in tournament play this weekend and will be playing against Pamona and Southeast Colorado on 9/6 and Elizabeth on 9/7. Eaton will then kick off next week with another league game against Sterling at home on 9/10. It will be a very busy week for the team, and they will have to continue battling to remain undefeated on the season.
Leading Eaton on the Stat board in the first seven games are Kiauna Smith (Sr) who has 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 14 runs, 13 hits, and 13 RBI, Johanna Galvan (So) who has 3 home runs, 1.00 ERA, and 14 RBI, McKenzie Powell (Sr) who has 1 home run, Zoe Hamilton (Sr) who has 5 stolen bases, 14 runs, and 13 hits, Emma Anderson (So) who has 4 stolen bases, 16 runs, 18 hits, and 13 RBI, and Bria Foster (So) who has a 3.50 ERA.
2. Strasburg (6-1)
Strasburg is currently on a 6 game winning streak after dropping their first game of the season to Elizabeth (5-3). So far this season, the Indians have defeated Meeker (12-0), Delta (15-1), Peak to Peak (9-8), Limon (17-0), Gunnison (13-3), and Rocky Ford (15-5). This week, Strasburg will be looking to continue their winning streak, but will have a very tough opponent in Eaton on 9/5 in the first league game of the season. The team will then be facing Palmer Ridge on 9/6, Pueblo South and Southeast Colorado on 9/7 and Resurrection Chrisitan on 9/10.
Stat leaders so far for Strasburg are Phebe Johnson (So) who has 4 home runs and 15 RBI, Madi Olsen (So) who has 1 home run and 11 hits, Kailey Rushman (Sr) who has 1 home run and a 2.58 ERA, Addi Kent (So) who has 3 stolen bases, 13 runs, 11 hits, and 11 RBI, Wynne Winter (So) who has 2 stolen bases, Jordan Finley (Fr) who has 2 stolen bases and 10 runs, Anna Vetter (Sr) who has a 1.75 ERA, and Rachel Rupple (Jr) who has 9 runs, 12 hits and 9 RBI.
3. Lamar (6-1)
Lamar ends their previous week of play with two wins, one against Wray/Yuma (12-0) and the other against Burlington (16-1). This gives Lamar a 6-1 overall record, with their only loss to Eaton. This week, the Thunder will face off against Pueblo County, Mesa Ridge and Sand Creek on 9/6 in tournament play and may have additional games on 9/7. They will then play their first league match of the season against La Junta on 9/10 at home.
Leading the Thunder so far this season are Chloe Weber (Sr) who has 3 home runs, a 7.37 ERA, and 15 RBI, Melanie Salcido (Sr) who has 1 home run, 12 hits, and 9 RBI, Annabelle Morales (Sr) who has 1 home run, 3 stolen bases, 13 runs, and 13 hits, Khloe Fernandez (Jr) who has 8 stolen bases, 12 runs, and 8 RBI, Alexus Campbell (So) who has 4 stolen bases and 10 runs, and Carlin Weber who has a 1.12 ERA and 11 hits.
4. Resurrection Christian (5-1)
The Cougars were on a five-game win streak until this week, having beat Thornton 19-8, Forge Christian 9-7 in 9 innings, Mountain View 12-0, and Middle Park 16-0 twice in a double header. Last night, in the first league game of the season, Lyons got the win over the Cougars after going 14 innings, 8-6. This week, Resurrection Christian will be playing their second league game and will be facing Weld Central in 9/5 on the road. The Cougars will then be facing Fort Colins and Niwot on 9/6, Moffat County and Poudre on 9/7, and Strasburg in a league game on 9/10.
Leaders of the stat board for Resurrection Christian are Karisa Lippincott (Sr) who has 3 home runs, a 2.33 ERA, 14 runs, 16 hits, and 16 RBI, Olivia Martinez (Jr) who has 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, and 9 RBI, Taylor Francis (Fr) who has 6 stolen bases, 11 runs, and 12 hits, Mia Lee (Fr) who has 5 stolen bases and 6 RBI, and Savannah Johnson who has a 1.62 ERA, 10 runs, and 10 hits.
5. University (5-4)
This last week, the University Bulldogs were able to get wins against both Northridge (10-0) and Limon (15-1). This left University with a 4-4 overall record as they headed into league play this week against Sterling, where the bulldogs were able to get the win 14-1. It will be a busy weekend for University as they will be playing Palmer Ridge, Southeast Colorado, and Elizabeth in tournament play on 9/7. The Bulldogs will then get back to league play on 9/10 against Valley at home.
Players who are on the top pf the stat board so far this season for University are Sydney Goetzel (Jr) who has 3 home runs, a 2.62 ERA, 11 hits and 10 RBI, Natalie Galindo (Jr) who has 1 home run, 7 runs and 10 RBI, Jasi Cole ( Jr) who has 1 home run and a 3.86 ERA, Kamzee Kern (Fr) who has 5 stolen bases, Ellie Baca (Sr) who has 5 stolen bases, 15 hits, and 9 RBI, Ella Galindo (Fr) who has 3 stolen bases and 8 runs, Jocelyn Chacon (So) who has a 3.18 ERA, Iliana Martinez (Sr) who has 7 runs and Emma Zacheis (So) who has 9 hits.
6. Rocky Ford (4-4)
The Meloneers went 1-1 last week, with a win against Gunnison of 12-2 and a loss against Strasburg 5-15, leaving their overall record 4-3. This week, Rocky Ford started off facing Widefield on the road where they lost 8-5, giving them a 4-1 record. The team will be playing in tournament play on 9/6 and 9/7 and then Rocky Ford will be kicking off league play next week and will be facing Alamosa at home on 9/10.
Rocky Ford’s stat leaders so far this season are Brilye Lovato (So) who has 3 stolen bases and 4 runs, Anneysiah Camacho (So) who has 2 stolen bases, 5 hits and 4 RBI, Ashlynn Berg (Sr) who has 2 stolen bases, 3 hits and 1 RBI, Leticia Garcia (Sr) who has a 0.93 ERA and 4 runs, Alysia Marquez (Fr) who has a 12.60 ERA and a 3 RBI, and Tay’Lor Archuleta (So) who has 3 hits.
7. Sterling (4-4)
Sterling is currently 4-4 after beating Holyoke 16-4 last week and losing to University in their first league game 14-1. This currently puts Sterling in 4th in the Patriots league. The Tigers will have a tough game to start next week against Eaton on 9/10 in their second league game of the season. The team will be looking to keep their win record around 50% but will have to battle to keep it there.
Leading the Tigers so far this season are Kira Perez (Jr) who has 3 stolen bases, Haylee Lambert (Fr) who has 3 stolen bases, 4 runs, and 4 hits, Gracyn Vondy (Jr) who has 2 stolen bases and 2 RBI, Tatym Dempcy (Sr) who has a 9.55 ERA, 4 runs, 3 hits, and 4 RBI, Makenzie Beck (Jr) who has 3 runs, and 3 hits, and Kenah Meraz (Sr) who has 3 RBI.
8. The Academy (6-2)
The Academy currently sits with a 6-2 overall record after losing their last game against Wellington last week 11-4. Tonight, the Wildcats will be looking to bounce back from their loss and will be at home to face Weld Central. Next week, The Academy will have a game against Lyons on 9/9 and then will kick off league play against Jefferson Academy on 9/10.
Leaders for the Wildcats so far this season are Mackenzie Pearson (Sr) who has 1 home run,16 runs. 13 hits and 11 RBI, Victoria Pearson (Sr) who has 6 stolen bases, a 4.48 ERA, 14 runs, and 14 hits, Ava Fladung (Sr) who has 3 stolen bases. 12 runs, and 9 RBI, Keara Pogue (So) who has 3 stolen bases, 11 hits, and 10 RBI, and Leyla Martin (So) who has a 1.80 ERA.

9. Alamosa (6-3)
Alamosa had a roller coaster of a week this last week. The team played four games and went 2-2, alternating their wins and losses. The Mean Moose lost their game to Pueblo Centennial last week 9-7 but was able to get the win against Sierra 9-3, and then they split with Montezuma-Cortez and lost their first game 11-5 but bounced back and took the win 14-4. Alamosa will be playing in tournament play this weekend and will face Falcon and Pueblo East on 9/6 and then the team will kick off league play against Rocky Ford on the road on 9/10.
Top players so far this season for Alamosa are Araceli Molina (Jr) who has 3 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 15 runs, 14 hits and 19 RBI, Myissa Duran (Sr) who has 1 home run, 9 stolen bases, 13 runs and 8 RBI, Lexany Heredia (Sr) who had 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, 14 runs, 11 hits and 10 RBI, Olivia Castillo (So ) who has a 2.33 ERA, Shea Jordan (Sr) who has a 4.29 ERA, and Gaby Castillo (Sr) who has 11 hits.
10. Southeast Colorado (2-1)
The Angels have not played any games since we last reviewed the team. To recap their current progress, Southeast Colorado has faced Sierra and Dolores Huerta and won these games 18-0 and 15-0. They then played against Guymon and got their first loss of the season 6-2. They will have a few tough opponents this week starting with Eaton on 9/6, then will have University and Strasburg in tournament play on 9/7, and then Limon on 9/10.
11. Forge Christian (7-1)
The Fury continue their winning streak after their loss of the first game of the season and have now won seven games in a row. Their most recent wins in the last week came against Mullen, Bennett and Platte Valley where Forge Christian won 16-1, 19-0, and 17-0 respectively. Tonight Forge Chrisitan will face off against Green Mountain on the road and then will also travel to Peak to Peak on 9/10 where the Fury will be looking to continue their win streak.
Sitting at the top of the stats for Forge Christian are Vivian Stults (So) who has 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, 16 runs, and 14 hits, Rio Beck (Jr) who has 7 stolen bases, 18 hits and 14 RBI, Julianna Alfaro (So) who has 6 stolen bases, a 1.14 ERA, 14 hits and 13 RBI, and Kaedence Miller who has 14 runs and 11 RBI.
12. Montezuma-Cortez (6-4)
The Panthers currently have a 6-4 overall record and a 5-2 league record, putting them 2nd in the Western Slope League early on in the season. The previous week was a busy on for Montezuma-Cortez, having 6 games and 4 opponents. They faced Durango and lost 11-8, played against Delta and on 8-7, competed in a double header against Meeker and won both of this 15-5 and 19-6, and then split against Alamosa in another double header and won 11-5 and lost 14-4. This next week will be less busy for the team but they will still be facing TCA on 9/6, Niwot on 9/7 and Durango in a rematch on 9/10.
Leaders on the stat board for the Panthers are Aubrey Rutherford (Sr) who has 3 home runs, 5 stolen bases, 23 runs, 16 hits, and 17 RBI, Nevaeh Istenes (Sr) who has 1 home run, 5 stolen bases. 14 runs and 18 RBI, Saylor Martinez (So) who has 1 home run and 16 hits, Abigail Coffey (Sr) who has 2 stolen bases and 14 runs, and Devyn Cornett (Sr) who has a 3.46 ERA, 21 hits and 18 RBI.
13. Meeker (4-5)
Meeker played in two double headers last week and faced both Delta and Montezuma-Cortez for a total of four games. The Cowboys were able to beat Delta both times 15-5 and 13-3. When they faced Montezuma-Cortez, Meeker lost both games 15- 5 and 19-6. Meeker will be playing another double header this week, this time against Basalt on 9/7 in league play. The Cowboys will be looking to win both games to get their win percentage above 50%.
Stat leaders for the Cowboys are Ashlynn Ducey (Sr) who has 1 home run, 3 stolen bases and 12 RBI, Emma Bauer (Jr) who had 4 stolen bases and 16 hits, Kayla Castillo (So) who has 3 stolen bases, Addie Knowles (Jr) who has 7.33 ERA, 12 runs and 11 RBI, Miah Wren (Sr) who has 16 runs and 17 hits, Miley Chism (Sr) who has 15 runs and 13 hits, and Autumn Stallings (Jr) who has 10 RBI.
14. Lyons (5-3)
Lyons is starting their season off strong with a current 5-3 record. This last week, the Lions were able to beat all three opponents they faced, including Wellington (14-12), Limon (23-1) and Resurrection Christian (8-6 in 14 innings). Lyons will be looking to carry their success into this week of play when they face Brush in a league game on 9/5, The Academy on 9/9 and Weld Central on 9/10.
Stat leaders for the Lions so far this season are Ava Vasquez (So) who has 2 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 14 runs, 13 hits, and 9 RBI, Leora Hagan (So) who has 6 stolen bases and 13 runs, Autumn Johnsey (So) who has 5 stolen bases, 12 hits, and 12 RBI, and Gretta Wynja (So) who has a 2.10 ERA, 12 runs and 8 hits.
15. La Junta (4-3)
The Tigers are currently 4-3 on the season after beating Limon and Burlington this week (13-1 and 17-2) and losing to Pueblo Centennial (7-2). La Junta will be trying to bounce back from their recent loss this week and will be facing Pueblo County on 9/6 in tournament play and then will be facing Lamar on 9/10 in the first league game of the season.
16. Peak to Peak (5-3)
Peak to Peak begins their season with a strong start of 5-3 overall. The three losses the team has so far are against quality teams of University (13-3), Strasburg (9-8) and Westminster (12-4). The Pumas won their previous two games against Centaurus (13-9) and Platte Canyon (17-2). This week. Peak to Peak will enter tournament play and will face Arvada and Alameda on 9/6 and Denver West on 9/7. They will then come back next week and face Forge Christian in a league game at home on 9/10.
Stat leaders for Peak to Peak are Maggie Wallis (Sr) who has 5 home runs, 12 runs, 14 hits and 19 RBI, Sydney Cusack (Sr) who has 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, a 5.60 ERA, 15 runs, and 11 hits, Karina Lefort (Jr) who has 1 home run and a 6.51 ERA, Grace Trasky (Fr) who has 7 stolen bases and 7 RBI, Dagny West (Sr) who has 4 stolen bases, Cindy Woo (So) who has 9 runs, Evelyn Deemurrie (Jr) who has 10 hits, and Haley Haskins (Jr) who has 7 RBI.
