CHERAW

Volleyball

A quick three set win happened for the Lady Wolverines on Thursday night in La Veta. Cheraw took it 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 to get back to .500 on the young season. The Lady Wolverines enter the week 1-1 make an appearance in the Mile High Prep Report volleyball rankings this week at #10.

Football

A bounce back win for Cheraw this last Saturday as they took down Flagler 55-14 in front of the home crowd in Cheraw. The Wolverines are back at .500 with a 1-1 Overall record. They start league play this week.

CROWLEY COUNTY

Volleyball

Crowley County went a full week without winning a single set, it continued Thursday evening at Charger Gym as they fell to a familiar foe in Holly in three straight sets (26-24, 25-13, 25-21). The Lady Chargers head into a big week at 2-4 Overall and 0-2 in the 2A Santa Fe League.

THIS WEEK

Football

The Chargers were on a bye week this week and should be well rested as they play another non-conference game this week. Crowley County sits at 0-1 Overall.

FOWLER

Volleyball

Fowler traveled down Highway 50 to take on Rocky Ford and left with a three-set victory (25-18, 25-7, 25-11). Two games await the Lady Grizzlies this week as they sit at 3-1 Overall and 2-0 in the 2A Santa Fe League.

Football

Fowler had a tough draw in Week 2 of the season as they traveled to take on #1 Simla. Simla would take the lead early and not look back as the Grizzlies fell 38-7. Fowler is now 1-1 Overall on the year.

LAS ANIMAS

Volleyball

An Arkansas Valley matchup concluded the week for the Trojans last week as they welcomed in the Manzanola Bobcats. Las Animas did not make Manzanola feel too welcome as they swept them (25-13, 25-7, 25-5). Las Animas has one game on the schedule for the week as they enter 2-4 Overall and 0-3 in the 2A Santa Fe League.

Football

The Trojans picked up a win over a beat-up Walsenburg team last Friday. The Trojan offense, led by Junior Orion Martinez ran all over the Panthers in route to a 51-14 victory. Las Animas will hit the road again with a 2-0 Overall record.

LA JUNTA

Volleyball

The Lady Tigers traveled for a rare Monday match. This one with the Vanguard Coursers in the 3A Tri Peaks. Vanguard got the best of La Junta in three straight (25-20, 25-21, 25-12). La Junta enters Tuesday with a record of 1-4 Overall and 0-1 in the 3A Tri-Peaks League.

  • Tuesday (September 10): @ Pueblo Central

Softball

A 2-2 record at the Pueblo County Tournament for the Lady Tigers last weekend. They would fall to Pueblo County 9-1 and defeat Coronado 8-7 on Friday. On Saturday it was much of the same for La Junta, they would fall to Pueblo East 10-5 and defeat George Washington 6-4. Rivalry Week hits for La Junta with the Lady Tigers sitting at 6-5 Overall.

  • Thursday (September 12): vs. Rocky Ford
  • Saturday (September 14): @ Pueblo East *Double Header*

Football

Another week and another blowout win by the Tigers. This time as the home opener against Mitchell. The Tiger offense was firing on all cylinders and their kicking game too (Julio Vazquez went 10 for 10 on extra point tries). La Junta won 74-4 to give them a 2-0 record heading into a big matchup this week.

MANZANOLA

Volleyball

Manzanola finished the weekend with two tough matches. Being swept in both continued the Lady Bobcats rough start to the year. On Thursday they were swept by Las Animas (25-13, 25-7, 25-5). Then a date with Primero on Friday proved to end the same way as the Bulldogs got the win in three straight (25-8, 25-15, 25-6). Manzanola is winless on the year as they enter Tuesday 0-11 Overall and 0-1 in the 1A Fishers Peak League.

  • Thursday (September 12): vs. Kim/Branson
  • Saturday (September 14): vs. Pikes Peak Christian

Football

Manzanola could not follow up an opening weekend win as they hosted Primero on Friday night and lost by a score of 68-7. This puts the Bobcats at 1-1 on the season as they enter their bye week.

ROCKY FORD

Volleyball

As mentioned earlier the Lady Meloneers welcomed in the Fowler Grizzlies on Thursday with the Grizzlies not being the best guest. Fowler got the win in three sets (25-18, 25-7, 25-11). Rocky Ford comes into the week in desperate need of a win, they sit at 1-5 Overall and 1-2 in the 2A Santa Fe League.

Softball

The Lady Meloneers competed at the always tough Brush Tournament over the past weekend, going 2-1-1. On Friday, Rocky Ford would fall to Brush 9-8 and defeat Bayard (NM) 8-0. Saturday started off with a 3-3 tie with Sterling before a complete dismantling of Platte Valley 14-0. The Lady Meloneers enter the first week of league play with a 6-5-1 record.

Football

Rocky Ford still is in the transition to 8-Man football, but it looks promising for the future. They would travel to Littleton last Friday to take on Front Range Christian and a tale of two halves for the Meloneers. They would fall 58-26. Rocky Ford enters their bye week at 0-2.

SWINK

Volleyball

A league matchup with Swallows Charter on Thursday gets us caught up on the Lady Lions. Swink took the win in a tough three sets (26-24, 25-22, 27-25). Swink comes into the week ranked #7 in the Mile High Prep Report rankings. The Lady Lions sit at 3-2 Overall and 3-1 in the 2A Santa Fe League.

The Lions had a tough go of it Saturday afternoon as they welcomed in Sanford. The Lions would not get on the board until the fourth quarter, falling to the Mustangs 52-6. Swink enters their bye week 0-2.
