Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Recap and Preview

This week is the beginning of league play for several teams, and with several teams still with perfect records, this could also be a week of many upsets. This week we take a look at the top MileHigh Prep Report teams and discuss how they are doing and what is on the horizon.

1. Sedgwick County (7-0)

Sedgwick County currently remains undefeated on the season with a 7-0 record. The Cougars most recent wins have been against Vail Mountain, Ignacio and Strasburg, which were all won 3-0. Today Sedgwick County will face off against South Platte at home and then will have Burlington on 9/14 and will be traveling to Chase County on 9/17. The Cougars will be looking to get wins in these games and maintain their perfect season record.

Leading the stat board for the Cougars are Abigail Dille (Sr) who has 19 total blocks. 59 digs, 58 kills and 88 receptions, Keyana Ehnes who has 9 total blocks, 11 serving aces, 53 kills and 103 receptions, Piper Buettenback (So) who has 6 total blocks and 28 assists, Ryen Carlson (So) who has 13 serving aces, 65 digs, and 119 assists, and Lainee Nein (Jr) who has 7 serving aces, 85 digs, 69 assists, 78 kills, and 61 receptions.

2. Simla (6-0)

Simla is currently on a six-game winning streak and remains undefeated on the season. The Cubs were able to win their single league game so far against Thomas MacLaren School last week which placed them in 2nd in the Black Forest League. The team also played Merino last week, but the score is not reported. This week, Simla will be playing Dolores Huerta Prep on 9/12 at home, McClave on 9/14 on the road, and Calhan, the current 1st place holder in the Black Forest League, at home on 9/17.

3. Colorado Springs Christian (3-1)

So far this season Colorado Springs Christian has gotten wins over Discovery Canyon(3-1), Eagle Ridge Academy (3-1), Liberty (3-0), but fell most recently to Resurrection Christian (3-2). This gives the Lions a 3-1 overall record with no league games played yet. Upcoming for the Lions are Valley tonight at the Lion’s home court and then their first league game of the season will be at home against Banning Lewis on 9/17.

Stat leaders for Colorado Springs Christian are Abi Howard (Sr) who has 10 total blocks, 5 assists, 31 kills and 44 receptions, Rachel Nash (Sr) who has 5 total blocks, Mattea Homan (Sr) who has 4 total blocks and 8 serving aces, Abigail Perry (Sr) who has 13 serving aces, 22 digs, 81 assists, and 29 kills, Jordan Rollins (Jr) who has 8 serving aces, 53 digs, 15 assists, and 117 receptions, Madeline Pauls (Sr) who has 32 digs and Rose Ross (So) who has 28 kills and 27 receptions.

4. Wiggins (4-3)

The Tigers are 4-3 so far this season after losing to Fleming 3-0 and beating Weldon Valley 3-0 last week. Next week starts league play for Wiggins, their first opponent will be against Haxtun for a home game on 9/17. Wiggins will be looking to win that game to add more wins to their record and also claim the top spot in the Lower Platte League.

5. Meeker (3-2)

Meeker sits early this season with a 3-2 record, 1-0 league record, and are 1st in the Western Slope League. Last week the Cowboys were able to get the win over De Beque 3-1 which gave them their first league win of the season. This week, Meeker will face Vail Christian on 9/13 on the road and will be back home on 9/14 to play Soroco.

Topping the stat board for the Cowboys are Resse Clatterbaugh (Sr) who has 11 total blocks. 7 serving aces, 2 assists, and 25 kills, Adison Selle (Sr) who has 2 total blocks and 20 kills, Rylee Sullivan (Jr) who has 1 total block12 serving aces, 48 digs, 38 kills and 64 receptions, Graycee Cravens (Sr) who has 6 serving aces, 34 digs, and 67 assists, Taylor Garcia (Sr) who has 106 digs and 97 receptions, Jacey Follman (Jr) who has 39 assists and Braydin Raley (Jr) who has 28 receptions.

6. Fowler (4-1)

The Grizzlies are currently 4-1 overall with a 2-0 league record and are 2nd in the Santa Fe League. Fowler added two wins to their record last week after defeating Rocky Ford 3-0 and James Irwin 3-0. Tonight the Grizzlies will host another league game and will be facing off against Walsenburg and then next week they will be on the road to play against Swallows Charter Academy in another league game. Fowler will be looking for wins in  these games to maintain or climb up through the league rankings.

7. Swink (4-2)

Last week the Lions went 3-0 in games played, giving Swink a 4-2 overall record and a 4-1 league record, placing them in 3rd in the Santa Fe League. Swink was able to get wins over Crowley County (3-0), Swallows Charter Academy (3-0) and Hohne (3-0). Tonight the Lions will be at home to face off against Rye in a league game, on 9/13, Swink will play against Sanford and on 9/17 against Walsenburg, both games will be at home for Swink.

Leading Swink in stats is Taylor Mendenhall (Jr) who has 34 total blocks and 45 kills, Daisy Heberlie (So) who has 28 total blocks and 43 kills, Kashlynn Blasingame (So) who has 13 total blocks, 10 serving aces, and 73 assists, Madelyn Bamber (Jr) who has 10 serving aces, Briana McElroy (Jr) who has 6 serving aces and 88 assists, Larriana Taggert (So) who has 79 digs, 3 assists and 81 receptions, Emma Gacnik (So) who has 40 digs, Jocelynn James (Jr) who has 32 digs and 46 receptions, and Jaylee Nily (Jr) who has 42 receptions.

8. Burlington (4-0)

With five games under their belt, Burlington so far remains perfect on the season with a 4-0 overall record and no league games played yet. (No score reported for Burlington Vs. Bethune). The Cougars so far this season have beat Kit Carson, Hi-Plains, Arickaree and Wray. This week could be a challenge for Burlington as they will be facing Goodland on 9/13 and Sedgewick County on 9/14, both games will be on the road.

Stat leaders for the Cougars are Emma Mcnerney (Fr) who has 8 total blocks, Kiyarra Williams (Sr) who has 6 total blocks, 38 digs, 27 kills and 61 receptions, Isabella Hornung (Sr) who has 5 total blocks, Lynzee Neal (Jr) who has 16 Serving aces, 21 digs, 24 assists, and 43 kills, Karina Estrada (Sr) who has 9 serving aces, 50 digs, 5 assists, and 55 receptions, Briar Simpson (Jr) who has 9 serving aces and 33 receptions, Rayvonn Holmes (Jr) who has 36 assists, and Bethany Cure (Jr) who has 23 kills. 

9. Rye (5-1)

Last week Rye 2-1 on their games played, getting wins over Pueblo Central (3-2) and Crowley County (3-0), but falling to Lamar (3-0). This gives Rye a 5-1 overall record, a 2-0 league record and puts them in 1st in the Santa Fe League. Tonight will be another league game for the Thunderbolts against Swink on the road. Next the team will face Hoehne at home on 9/17.

Leading Rye so far this season are Isabella Bond (Jr) who has 19 total blocks and 35 kills, Haley Nweitt (Jr) who has 12 total blocks, Kelsy Stribling (Sr) who has 9 total blocks, 95 digs, 68 assists, and 44 kills, Desiree Ruiz (Sr) who has 15 serving aces, 125 digs, and 142 receptions, Olivia Donlon (Jr) who has 10 serving aces and 82 digs, Seine Roy (Jr) who has 24 assists and 51 recpetions, and Taylor Pye (Jr) who has 38 kills and 100 receptions.

10. Rangely (8-0)

Rangely currently has an 8-0 overall record, are 1-0 in league play and are sitting in 1st in the Western Slope League. Their most recent wins have been over Caprock Academy (3-1), North Fork (3-1) and Moffat County (3-1).  This week, the Panthers will have a rematch against Caprock Academy on the road on 9/13, and then will be back home to face Vail Mountain on 9/14. The Panthers will be looking to maintain their perfect record and their position in league rankings.

Leading Rangely so far this season are Lexi Lebleu (Sr) who has 2 total blocks, 7 serving aces, 32 kills and 20 receptions, Addison Scott (Jr) who has 2 total blocks, Aubrianna Tapia (Jr) who has 1 total block, Emma Winder (Sr) who has 16 serving aces, 34 digs and 40 receptions, Kaitlyn Cox (Sr) who has 13 serving aces, 28 digs, 52 assists, and 27 kills, Emmeree Wagner (Sr) who has 22 digs, 9 assists, 22 kills and 43 receptions, and Karlee Halcomb (Sr) who has 42 assists.

11. Calhan (4-2)

Last week, Calhan played four games and was able to get the win over TCSS (3-0) and Peyton (3-10), but fell to ECA (3-2). (Game against Elbert not reported). This gives Calhan a 4-2 overall record, a 2-0 league record and 1st in the Black Forest League. The Bulldogs will be on the road tonight and will face Thomas MacLaren School, and then will have tournament play this weekend where they will be against Wray, Denver Waldorf and De Beque on 9/14. Then next on 9/17, Calhan will face Simla in a league game on the road.

12. Del Norte (7-0)

The Tigers are holding strong in the season and remain perfect with a 7-0 overall record and league games starting this week. Del Norte managed to get the win last week over Custer County in a close game of 3-2. Tonight the Tigers will face Pagosa Springs in the Tiger’s home gym and then remaining at home, Del Norte will play their first league game of the season against Sanford on 9/14. The team will be looking to get wins to maintain their perfect season and stay on top of their league rankings.

At the top of the stat board for Del Norte are Baylie Laymon (Sr) who has 11 total blocks, Hadley Legget (Sr) who has 8 total blocks and 35 kills, Reese Brown (Sr) who has 1 total block11 serving aces, 45 digs, and 51 kills, Brynley Brown (Fr) who has 11 serving aces, 35 digs, and 53 kills, Autumn Gallegos (Jr) who has 9 serving aces, Emma Parra (So) who has 54 digs and 20 assists, and Kailee Gallegos (Sr) who has 130 assists.

13. Heritage Christian (7-1)

Since the Eagles lost their first game of the season, they have not lost yet and are currently on a seven game winning streak. Heritage Christian went 3-0 in last weeks games, beating Loveland Classical, (3-1), Liberty Common (3-0) and Briggsdale (3-0). Tonight the Eagles will face Fronter Academy on the road and then will have their first league game of the season and will see Estes Park at home on 9/17.

Stat leaders for Heritage Christian are Kristine Osborne (Jr) who has 5 total blocks, 13 serving aces, 170 assists and 29 kills, Annabelle Loucks (So) who has 2 total blocks, 18 serving aces, 39 digs, 10 assists, 61 kills and 56 receptions, Staci Brown (Sr) who has 2 total blocks, Abby Leveillee (Jr) who has 17 serving aces, 70 digs, 14 assists, and 124 receptions, and Kayla Cuckler (Sr) who has 48 digs, 67 kills and 41 receptions. 

14. Hoehne (5-3)

Hoehne so far this season sit with a 5-3 overall record, are 2-1 in league play and are 4th in the Santa Fe League. Last week the Farmers went 1-1 in game play, beating La Junta in 3 but falling to Swink in 3. This week, Hoehn will be playing Centauri and Alamosa on 9/14 and then will be back into league play on 9/17 on the road against Rye.

Leading the stat board for Hoehne are Aspen Garrison (Jr) who has 10 total blocks, 10 serving aces, and 41 kills, Paisley San Roman (Fr) who has 5 total blocks, Jacklyn Rogers (Jr) who has 3 total blocks, Ellegra Gutierrez (Sr) who has 12 serving aces, 71 digs, 53 kills and 83 receptions, Phoenix SanRoman (Sr) who has 8 serving aces, 58 digs, 99 assists, Cadence Doering (Jr) who has 69 digs, 11 assists, and 157 receptions, Mikenna Dasko (Jr) who has 55 assists, and Braylee Foster (So) who has 44 kills and 29 receptions.

15. Denver Christian (6-2)

Denver Christian received their second loss of the season last week to Strasburg (3-0) but was able to bounce back and get two wins against Ignacio (3-0) and Front Range Christian (3-0). The Thunder are currently 6-2 on the season and will be looking to add more wins as the season continues. Next week, Denver Christian will travel in Colorado Academy in a league game on 9/17.

Stat leaders for the Thunder are Addison Ruter who has 12 total blocks, 16 serving aces, and 28 kills, Natalie Bohannon who has 11 total blocks and 29 kills, Klara Van Andel (Sr) who has 8 total blocks, Noelani Book (Sr) who has 24 serving aces and 143 assists, Bree Austin who has 17 serving aces, Addison Ruter who has 16 serving aces, Erika Middel (Sr) who has 75 digs, 17 assists, and 87 receptions, Ava Vande Griend (Sr) who has 64 digs, 6 assists, 81 kills and 114 receptions, and Hadley Pellegrino who has 40 receptions. 

16. Haxtun (6-2)

Haxtun went 2-0 last week in their games played and got wins over Wichita County (3-0) and Caliche (3-1). This gives the Bulldogs a 6-2 overall record and a 2-0 league record, placing them in 2nd in the Lower Platte League. Haxtun will have a quiet weekend but will start next week of with some league play on 9/17 on the road at Wiggins.

Stat leaders for the Bulldogs are Bobbi Starkebaum (Sr) who has 27 total blocks, 82 kills, and 116 assists, Jayleigh Bullard who has 14 total blocks, 19 serving aces, and 83 kills, Josie Freeman (Jr) who has 10 total blocks, Lilly Lemesany (Jr) who has 25 serving aces, 120 digs, 18 assists, and 166 receptions, Kelsie Hadeen (Sr) who as 14 serving aces, 77 digs, and 150 assists, Maggie Kilgour (Sr) who has 99 digs, 69 kills and 139 receptions, and Emily Anderson (Sr) who has 113 receptions.

17. Mancos (7-3)

The Bluejays are currently 7-3 on the season with a 3-0 league record which places them in 1st in the San Juan Basin. Last week, Mancos was able to get the wins over Ignacio (3-0), Norwood (3-1) and Ouray (3-0).  Tonight the Bluejays will play against Dolores in a league game where they will be looking to maintain their league ranking. Next week the team will be at home to face Montezuma-Cortez on 9/17.

Stat leaders for Mancos are Destiny Kramer (Jr) who has 11 total blocks, Bailey Beh (So) who has 6 total blocks, 34 serving aces, and 107 digs, Tinsley Aspromonte (Fr) who has 4 total blocks and 23 kills, Brooke Jabour (Jr) who has 18 serving aces, 195 digs, 15 assists, and 178 receptions, Aubree Wyatt (So) who has 14 serving aces, 135 digs, 6 assists, 127 kills and 104 receptions, and Alexis Lyons (Jr) who has 295 assists.

18. Sanford (5-2)

The Mustangs are currently 5-2 overall after getting the win over South Park last week 3-0 and are 1-0 in league play, placing them currently in 1st in the Southern Peaks League. This week, Sanford will face Swink on the road on 9/13 and then will travel to Del Norte for their second league match on 9/14 where they will be looking to get the win to maintain their position in league rankings.

On the top of the stat board for Sanford sit Riley Willet (Sr) who has 7 total blocks and 17 kills, Avery Koenig (Jr) who has 5 total blocks and 7 assists, Bella Peterson (Jr) who has 1 total block, 5 serving aces, 24 digs, 14 kills and 56 receptions, Claire Crowther (So) who has 7 serving aces, 20 digs, and 23 kills, Brinlyn Smith (So) who has 5 serving aces and 54 receptions, Rose Schwartz (Jr) who has 25 digs, Brooklynn Reynolds (Sr) who has 74 assists, and Shasta Bond with 51 receptions.
