CHERAW

Volleyball

After only playing one match a week for the first three weeks of the season, the Lady Wolverines played two matches this week. On Friday they got back to .500 in the High Plains League with a touch 5 set win over Granada (25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 24-26, 15-11). A trip down to the San Luis Valley for the Lady Wolverines on Friday ended with a 3-1 win over Sangre de Cristo (21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20). Cheraw sits at 3-1 Overall and 1-1 in the 1A High Plains League.

Football

The Wolverine football team had a tough matchup coming into the week as they traveled to #6 Granada for a league matchup Friday night. Cheraw was game for it though and kept it close with the Bobcats. Granada did end up on top at the final buzzer 44-30. Cheraw is now 1-1 Overall and 0-1 in the 6-Man Southeast League.

CROWLEY COUNTY

Volleyball

Crowley County welcomed in Rye for a 2A Santa Fe League matchup Tuesday evening. The Thunderbolts proved to be a big test for the Lady Chargers and took it in three straight sets (25-8, 25-16, 25-10). Crowley County enters this week at 2-5 Overall and 0-3 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football

Off their bye week Crowley County welcomed in Crowley County welcomed in Calhan for an 8-Man non-conference meeting. It was a close game all throughout but the Bulldogs ultimately prevailed 28-20. Crowley County enters Week 4 of the season at 0-2 Overall

FOWLER

Volleyball

Fowler continued their winning ways this last week going 2-0, both being sweeps. On Tuesday they traveled up to Colorado Springs to take on James Irwin, Fowler got the win (25-13, 25-12, 25-11). Thursday was much of the same for the Lady Grizzlies, this time back at home against Walsenburg. A three set sweep there for them as well (25-9, 25-17, 25-5). Fowler enters this week 5-1 Overall and 3-0 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football

Another tough draw for Fowler in Week 3 of the season as they would host #5 Akron. It was all Rams in this one as the Grizzlies continued to struggle. Akron picked up the win 56-0. Fowler enters Week 4 1-2 Overall.

LAS ANIMAS

Volleyball

A light week for the Lady Trojans with only one match on their schedule. The traveled down Highway 50 to take on 1A Holly. The Wildcats would end up with the three set sweep (25-16, 25-20, 25-23). Las Animas enters this week at 2-5 Overall and 0-3 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football

The Trojans continue rolling through the non-conference portion of their season. They traveled up to Clear Creek HS for a matchup with Soroco on Saturday. The Trojan offense was firing on all cylinders yet again. Las Animas picked up the win 32-6. Las Animas enters Week 4 at 3-0 Overall.

LA JUNTA

Volleyball

La Junta traveled for two tough road contests this week. Each ended on the bad side for La Junta. On Monday, they traveled to Vanguard for a 3A Tri-Peaks matchup with the Coursers. Vanguard would end up with the three set sweep (25-20, 25-21, 25-12). Thursday was rather better for La Junta as they traveled to Pueblo Central for some non-conference action. Pueblo Central would get the win in a tough five set match (19-25, 24-26, 25-8, 25-25, 15-7). La Junta enters the week at 1-5 Overall and 0-1 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

Softball

It was rivalry week for the Lady Tigers. On Tuesday they traveled to Lamar for a matchup with rival Lamar, it was a close game with no one scoring the final three innings. Lamar took the league win 3-1. Thursday was another league matchup for La Junta with a matchup with Rocky Ford. The Meloneers were all over the Tigers from the get go, Rocky Ford took the run rule win 17-1. Saturday was a day for retribution for La Junta, a loss in the Pueblo County Tournament on their minds, the Lady Tiger bats came alive for a 7-4 victory over Pueblo East. La Junta is .500 on the year at 7-7 Overall and 0-2 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

  • Friday (September 20): @ Discovery Canyon

Football

A matchup with the 2-0 Strasburg Indians Friday night did not go the way of the Tigers. After the teams exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter, Strasburg rattled off 40 unanswered points to take the win over La Junta 46-14. La Junta enters Week 4 with a 2-1 record.

MANZANOLA

Volleyball

Manzanola’s tough 2024 continued last week for the Bobcats. Thursday was a matchup with Kim/Branson that saw the Mustangs take it in three straight (25-17, 25-20, 25-21). No score was reported for the Saturday matchup with Pikes Peak Christian.

ROCKY FORD

Volleyball

Rocky Ford continued to struggle this last week in volleyball action. The Lady Meloneers traveled twice this week and came up empty handed both times. Tuesday was a trip to Thomas MacLaren where the Highlanders won in five competitive sets (25-27, 22-25, 25-11, 27-25, 15-13). Saturday was a trip down to Center where it was a sweep by the Vikings that sent the Meloneers home (25-12, 25-15, 25-16). Rocky Ford comes into the week with a record of 1-7 Overall and 1-2 in the 2A Santa Fe.

  • Thursday (September 19): vs. Crowley County

Softball

The Lady Meloneers went 3-0 this past week with two league games and a non-conference matchup. Tuesday saw Rocky Ford handle Alamosa 10-0 at Babcock Park. Thursday was a trip to La Junta to take on the Tigers, a game where the Meloneers were on fire from the start saw them take the win 17-1. Friday was a trip over the mountain to Gunnison where the Lady Meloneers took a 6-3 win from the Cowboys. Rocky Ford, now riding a four game win streak, is 9-5-1 Overall and 2-0 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

SWINK

Volleyball

Since a loss to McClave back in August the Lady Lions are on fire, not dropping a set since. Tuesday, on a trip to Hoehne, Swink won in three straight (25-19, 25-18, 25-21). Thursday was much of the same as the Lady Lions welcomed in Rye to the Lions Den in a ranked matchup. Swink was all over Rye and took the win by sweep again (25-21, 25-23, 25-19). To round out the week of action, Swink took on Sanford on Friday. The Lady Lions yet again got another sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-22). Swink enters the week at 6-2 Overall and 5-1 in the 2A Santa Fe.
