Class 3A Softball Weekly Recap and Preview

This week we take a look at the top 16 3A teams in the CHSAA Seeding index. With the regular season a little more than halfway over, these are teams that we should expect to see in the playoffs.

1. Eaton (14-1)

Continuing their streak at the top of the pack, Eaton currently sits with a 14-1 overall record, a 3-0 league record and are 2nd in the Patriot League currently behind Lyons. Eaton has been a dominant force this last week on the field, beating Forge Christian 12-0, Fort Lupton 21-1 and Valley 17-0. Today, the Reds will face Brush at home to try to continue their win streak. Then on 9/21 at home, Eaton will face Holy Family. Next week will have an exciting game in store when Eaton will travel to Lyons on 9/26 for a potential league title.

Helping lead the team to success so far this season are stat leaders Johanna Galvan (So) who has 4 home runs, a 1.17 ERA, and 34 RBI, Kiauna Smith (Sr) who has 3 home runs, 8 stolen bases, 28 runs, 30 hits, and 26 RBI, Emma Anderson (So) who has 3 home runs, 7 stolen bases, 28 runs, 28 hits, and 28 RBI, Zoe Hamilton (Sr) who has 9 stolen bases and 28 runs, and Bria Foster (So) who has a 2.07 ERA and 26 hits.

2. Strasburg (11-4)

Strasburg has currently won their last five games in a row, including their wins in the last week against The Academy (17-7) Vista Peak Prep (15-1) and Weld Central (12-2). The Indians are currently 11-4 overall with a 2-1 league record and sit 4th in the Patriot League. Today offers an opportunity for Strasburg to move their way up in the league rankings as they will face Sterling at home in a league game. Later this week, the Indians will face Forge Christian at home on 9/21 and next week Strasburg will kick off their play against Limon on the road on 9/23.

Leading the Indians on the stat board are Phebe Johnson (So) who has 6 home runs, 17 runs, and 26 RBI, Madi Olsen (So) who has 3 home runs, 18 runs, and 20 hits, Savannah Bradley (Jr) who has 2 home runs and 15 RBI, Addit Kent (So) who has 4 stolen bases, 22 runs, 23 hits and 19 RBI, Wynne Winter (So) who has 4 stolen bases, Jordan Finley (Fr) who has 4 stolen bases, Kailey Rushman (Sr) who has a 2.80 ERA and 22 hits, and Anna Vetter (Sr) who has a 5.43 ERA.

3. University (8-5)

The Bulldogs got another league win last week over Valley 17-0. This gives University a 2-0 league record, an 8-5 overall record and puts them in 3rd in the Patriot League. Today will be another league game battle for the Bulldogs as they take on Lyons. Next Week, University will face Weld Central in a league game and will be looking to continue winning to move their way up in the league rankings.

Sitting at the top of the stat board for University are Sydney Goetzel (Jr) who has 5 home runs, a 2.10 ERA, 13 hits, and 16 RBI, Natalie Galindo (Jr) who has 4 home runs, 12 runs and 17 RBI, Jasi Cole (Jr) who has 4 home runs, a 2.92 ERA, 11 runs, and 14 RBI, Kamzee Kern (Fr) who has 5 stolen bases, Ellie Baca (Sr) who has 5 stolen bases, 11 runs. And 18 hits, Ella Galindo (Fr) who has 3 stolen bases, Kenzie Wyatt (So) who has a 1.68 ERA, and Emma Zacheis (So) who has 13 hits.

4. Lamar (11-4)

The Thunder had some mixed success in the last week, losing to both Pueblo Central 5-1 and Plamer Ridge 12-2, but bounced back to get the win over Limon 22-2. Lamar is now 11-4 overall, 1-0 in league play and 2nd in the Tri Peaks I League. Today will be a good game for Lamar as they will face Southeast Colorado in a league game, where the Thunder will need to win to maintain their league rank. The team will then travel to Alamosa to face the Mean Moose on 9/21 in a league game and then will be at Rocky Ford on 9/24 in a potential league title game.

Leading the Thunder’s stat board currently are Chloe Weber (Sr) with 3 home runs, a 8.94 ERA, 19 hits, and 21 RBI, Daisy Medina (So) who has 1 home run, Annabelle Morales (Sr) who has 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, 17 runs, and 13 RBI, Khloe Fernandez (Jr) who has 12 stolen bases, 22 runs, and 19 hits, Alexus Campbell (So) who has 9 stolen bases and 16 runs, Carlin Weber (Fr) who has a 2.70 ERA, and Melanie Salcedo (Sr) who has 20 hits and 16 RBI.

5. Southeast Colorado (6-3)

Sitting in 3rd in the Tri-Peaks I league, the Angels are 6-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. In the last week, Southeast Colorado was able to get wins over Alamosa 18-2, Forge Christian 8-1, and started a game against Rocky Ford where weather prevented the completion of the game. Today, the Angels will face Lamar on 9/19 in a league game, and then will see La Junta on 9/24 at home in another league game. Southeast Colorado is supposed to see Rocky Ford again on 10/3, where depending on wins/losses, it could be for the league title.

6. The Academy (9-4)

The Academy took two losses this last week, one from Strasburg (17-7) and the other from Niwot (3-0). This leaves the Wildcats with a 9-4 overall record, a 1-0 league record and puts them currently in 1st in the Denver Metro League. The Wildcats will be playing in a few league games this week, first being today against Forge Christian on the road, then they will host Peak to Peak on 9/24 and will play University in a non-league game at home on 9/25.

Wildcat stat leaders so far this season are Mackenzie Pearson (Sr) who has 3 home runs, 25 runs, 20 hits, and 20 RBI, Victoria Pearson who has 1 home run, 9 stolen bases, 4.97 ERA, 22 runs, and 26 hits, Ava Fladung (Sr) who has 4 stolen bases and 16 runs, Keara Pogue (So) who has 4 stolen bases and 16 hits, Leyla Martin (So) who has a 3.50 ERA and 14 RBI, and Harper Scott (Fr) who has 13 RBI.

7. Rocky Ford (9-5-1)

Rocky Ford currently has a 9-5-1 record with two recent wins over La Junta (16-1) and Gunnison (6-3). The win over league opponent La Junta puts the Meloneers at 2-0 in league play and 1st in the Tri Peaks I league. Tonight, Rocky Ford will face the Florence Huskies in Rocky Ford in another league game and then will see Lamar on 9/24. These must win games for Rocky Ford if they want to guarantee their 1st place spot in the league.

Leading the stat board for Rocky Ford are Ashlynn Berg (Sr) who has 11 stolen bases, 11 runs, and 16 hits, Brilye Lovato (So) who has 9 stolen bases and 10 runs, Benni Martinez (Fr) who has 8 stolen bases, Leticia Garcia (Sr) who has a 2.64 ERA, 21 hits and 11 RBI, Deja Warman (Sr) with 11 runs, Alysia Marquez (Fr) with 19 hits, Anneysiah Camacho (So) with 10 RBI, and Tay’Lor Archuleta (So) with 9 RBI.

8. Forge Christian (9-3)

Forge Christian got two of their three season losses this week against Eaton 0-12, and Southeast Colorado 1-8. This makes the Fury 9-3 overall, 1-0 in league play and puts them 2nd in the Denver Metro League. Today, Forge Christian will face The Academy in a league game, where the Fury will be trying to get the win to move their way up the league rankings. Later this week, the team will face Strasburg on the road on 9/21, and then next week they will be back home to play against Westminster on 9/23 and Arvada on 9/24.

Stat leaders for Forge Christian are Vivian Stults (So) who has 1 home run, 7 stolen bases, 19 runs and 16 hits, Rio Beck (Jr) who has 10 stolen bases, 20 runs, 26 hits and 16 RBI, Julianna Alfaro (So) who has 7 stolen bases, a 3.64 ERA, 17 hits and 14 RBI, and Kaedence Miller (So) who has 15 runs and 11 RBI.

9. Wellington (9-5)

Wellington will be looking to keep their success momentum and move up league rankings tonight when they face Roosevelt on the road. The Eagles are currently 5th in the Longs Peak League with a 4-3 league record. Their four league wins all came within the last week in games against Mountain View (18-4), Greeley Central (18-0), Timnath (15-0), and Thompson Valley (6-10). With these wins, Wellington is currently 9-5 overall and will be looking to keep up their wins after tonight when they face Berthoud in a league game on 9/21, Severance on 9/21, and Northridge on 9/26.

Stat leaders for the Eagles are Kensley Story (Jr) who has 3 home runs, 14 runs, 25 hits, and 23 RBI, Kiley Newberry (So) who has 15 stolen bases, Charley Somday (So) who has 13 stolen bases, 19 runs, 14 hits and 10 RBI, Alanna Sandlian (Fr) who has 8 stolen bases, Jasmin Tafoya (Sr) who has a 1.05 ERA, London Morgan (Fr) who has a 10.25 ERA, and Taylor Morgan (Jr) who has a 2.81 ERA, 14 runs, and 14 RBI.

10. The Classical Academy (9-4)

The Titans are currently 2nd in the CSML North League  with a 9-4 overall record and a 2-0 league record. TCA was able to get wins over Sierra (14-0) and Sand Creek (11-1) in league play and then was also able beat Woodland Park twice, 21-3 and 19-7, as well as Rampart in a close game of 9-8.  Today TCA will face Falcon on the Titans’ home field. Next week, TCA will kick off the week against James Irwin at home on 9/23, and then will face Elizabeth on the road on 9/24.

Leading the Titans this season are Veronica Santos (Sr) who has 1 home run, 3 stolen bases, and 17 RBI, Ada Wilson (So) who has 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, a 4.57 ERA, 20 runs, 21 hits and 19 RBI, Mattie Daggett (Jr) who has 2 stolen bases, Taytum Kimbro (Fr) who has 20 runs, 20 hits and 19 RBI, and Adelynn Miller (Sr) who has 19 runs and 20 hits.

11. Peak to Peak (11-5)

Sitting 3rd in the Denver Metro League, the Pumas lost to Forge Christian 8-4 but beat Jefferson Academy to give them a 1-1 league record. Peak to Peak also beat Denver West 18-3 and lost to Centaurus 8-7 in non-league games to give them an 11-5 overall record. Next week, Peak to Peak will face Adams City on 9/23 at home, then they will be on the road to face The Academy in a league game on 9/24, and then they will travel to Forge Christian on 9/26 in another league game.

Leading Peak to Peak this season are Maggie Wallis (Sr) who has 7 home runs34 runs, 33 hits, and 36 RBI, Karina Lefort (Jr) who has 2 home runs, a 4.76 ERA, 24 hits and 21 RBI, Sydney Cusack (Sr) who has 1 home run, 9 stolen bases, a 3.97 ERA, 29 runs, and 25 hits, Grace Trasky (Fr) who has 12 stolen bases and 16 RBI, Dagny West (Sr) who has 7 stolen bases, and Haley Haskins (Jr) who has 22 runs.

12. Alamosa

Alamosa went 1-1 in game play this last week, losing to Southeast Colorado 18-2 but getting the win over Gunnison 12-4. The Mean Moose are currently 0-2 in league play, putting them in 5th place in the Tri Peaks I league, but are 9-7 overall. Alamosa is on the road tonight to face La Junta in a league game and then they will be back home on 9/21 to face Lamar. Alamosa will be looking to grab a couple of league wins to move their way up the rankings. Next week, Alamosa will face Gunnison on their own field on 9/24.

Leading the team this season are Araceli Molina (Jr) who has 3 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 21 runs, 20 hits, and 20 RBI, Myissa Duran (Sr) who has 1 home run and 9 stolen bases, Lexany Heredia (Sr) who has 1 home run, 11 stolen bases, 22 runs, 18 hits and 12 RBI, Olivia Castillo (So) who has a 5.17 ERA, Shea Jordan (Sr) who has a 5.62 ERA, and Gaby Castillo (Sr) who has 15 runs, 20 hits and 15 RBI.

13. Lyons (10-4)

Lyons currently sits 1st in the Patriot league with a 4-0 league record and a 10-4 overall record. The Lions have gotten the win in their last four games which were against Weld Central (11-0), Timnath (10-2), Platte Canyon (18-0), and Platte Valley (16-0). Today will be a tough league game for Lyons as they will be facing University on the Bulldogs’ home field. A win in this game will keep the Lions 1st in the league, where a loss would cause some movement. Next week, the Lions will face Berthoud on the road on 9/23, before they host the Eaton Reds on 9/26 in a potential league title game.

Leading the Lions in stats are Ava Vasquez (So) who has 3 home runs, 9 stolen bases, 24 runs22 hits and 16 RBI, Autumn Johnsey (So) who has 1 home run, 6 stolen bases, 17 hits and 16 RBI, Gretta Wynja (So) who has 1 home run, a 1.90 ERA, and 15 hits, Leora Hagan (So) who has 11 stolen bases and 23 runs, Elle Magaldi with 18 runs and Ella White with 10 RBI.

14. Meeker (6-6)

After several days off, Meeker played Rifle and unfortunately for the Cowboys, got their 6th loss of the season 8-6. The Cowboys are now 6-6 overall, 4-2 in league play and are currently 2nd in the Western Slope League. Meeker will be looking for gain some momentum this week and will face Cedaredge in a double header on 9/21 where they will be looking to get some wins for their overall and league record.

Sitting at the top of the stat board for the Meeker Cowboys are Ashlynn Ducey (Sr) who has 1 home run, 6 stolen bases17 runs, 18 hits and 18 RBI, Kayla Castillo (So) who has 6 stolen bases, Miah Wren (Sr) who has 6 stolen bases and 24 hits, Addie Knowles (Jr) who has a 6.11 ERA and 11 RBI, Miley Chism (Sr) with 19 runs, and Emma Bauer (Jr) with 17 hits.

15. La Junta (7-7)

La Junta went 1-1 in game play this last week, losing to Rocky Ford in a league game 16-1, and beating Pueblo East 7-4 in a non-league game. The Tigers are 7-7 overall, 0-2 in league play and are currently 4th in the Tri-Peaks I league. Tonight, La Junta will host Alamosa in a league game where both teams will be looking for their first league win. Then the Tigers will travel on 9/20 to Discovery Canyon, and to Southeast Colorado on 9/24 in another league game.

Stat leaders for the La Junta Tigers are Yliana Garcia (Jr) who has 18 stolen bases, 12 runs and 20 hits, Livia Smith (Sr) with 16 stolen bases, a 4.40 ERA, 14 runs, and 15 hits, Isabelle Aragon (So) who has 11 stolen bases and a  4.51 ERA, Marlie Gonzales (So) who has 11 runs and 8 RBI, Ryanna Pineda (Sr) with 11 hits and Natalya Herrea (So) with 5 RBI.

16. Delta (6-7)

Delt is currently 6-7 overall after their loss to Eagle Valley this week (13-12), are 3-3 in league play and currently sit 4th in the Western Slope League. The Panthers will be playing in league games for a bit, kicking it off with Aspen on 9/21 in Delta. They will then host Basalt on 9/24 and then will travel to Cedaredge on 9/26. Delta will be looking to get wins to move their way up the league rankings and seeding index.

Leading Delta on the stat board are Mya Abeyta (Sr) with 3 home runs, 18 hits, and 21 RBI, Jazlyn Naranjo (So) with 2 home runs, 6 stolen bases, 19 runs, and 13 RBI, Olivia Hines (Jr) with 1 home run, a 8.94 ERA, 25 runs, 32 hits, and 27 RBI, Velma Baily (Sr) with 9 stolen bases, 23 runs, and 24 hits, Perla Valdez (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, and Lily Gallegos (Fr) with a 7.96 ERA.
