
Class 1A Football Preview-Week Four

We enter the fourth week of the regular season and things have been exciting the first three weeks of the season. This week we quickly give the Top 10 Schedule then we give you the 8 games we are most excited for. We will give a quick breakdown of those games. Good Luck to all teams this weekend!

Class 1A Top 8 Games of the Week
#7 Monte Vista (2-1) at 2A Pagosa Springs (1-1), Friday at 7pm
We kickoff the top games in Class 1A with our game of the week. Monte Vista makes the trip over Wolf Creek Pass to face Pagosa Springs. Monte Vista comes into the contest at 2-1 overall and coming off a yard fought win over North Fork (43-20) last week. Monte Vista was powered by their rushing attack which racked up over 306 yards in the game. RB Jacob Pacheco led all rushers with 194 yards on 17 carries and 2 TDs. RB/WR Alex Marquez also pitched in another 80 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively Jeremiah Baumgardner (16 tackles) led the Pirates along with Manny Jiron (15 tackles) and Azariah Hurtado (13 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 INTs, and punt return for TD). Pagosa Springs comes into the contest at 1-1 overall and are coming off a bye last week. Pagosa Springs last matchup was a 21-20 loss to Centauri on 9/6. So far this season Pagosa Springs has been led by their rushing attack which has racked up 505 yards and 7 TDs. RB Colt0n Lucero (295 yards, 5 TDs) leads all rushers with QB Creede Dozier (154 yards rushing, 134 yards passing, 4 Total TDs) being the #2 rusher and off to a solid start passing. Defensively Seth Zeigler (17), Colton Lucero (15), and Jayton Ross (14) are the leading tacklers for Pagosa Springs.
#10 C.S Christian (0-2) at 2A Florence (0-3), Friday at 7pm
We head east to Florence for our next contest. This is a must win game for a pair of perennial playoff teams as both teams come into this contest without a win. C.S Christian held onto a top 10 ranking this week after falling to 2A Woodland Park 28 to 25. C.S Christian desperately need a win to get back going in the right direction. Last week against Woodland Park, C.S Christian was led by their passing attack. QB Jace Velasquez had a solid day throwing for 222 yards and 2 TDs. RB Daniel Hoggard led all rushers with 110 yards. Defensively Joe Sammons and Nathan Aichele led all tacklers for the Lions. Florence comes into the contest at 0-3 overall. The Huskies have played a tough schedule this season playing the #1 and #2 team in Class 2A in the first two weeks and last week fell to Salida 28 to 15. Florence is in a tough league and picking up a win this week would be big before a bye. Florence has been powered by their rushing attack with QB Noah Howard leading the way with 162 yards passing, 355 yards rushing, and 3 total TDs. RB Brady Hunsberger is the top RB with 178 yards rushing and 1 TD. Defensively 4 Huskies are over the 20 tackle mark with Gabe Sullivan (23) and Bodie Taylor (22) leading the way for Florence.
#1 Wray (3-0) at 2A Brush (0-2), Friday at 6pm
We keep heading east for our next contest as we head to Brush. Wray makes the trip down HWY 34 to face off against Brush. Wray comes into the contest at 3-0 overall. Wray last week picked up a huge win against 3A Scott City 42 to 14. Wray got out early in the game and never looked back. Wray was balanced in their win with 216 yards passing and 169 yards rushing. QB Casey Midcap led the offense with 216 yards passing, 87 yards rushing, and 3 TDs. RB Samuel Meisner (50 yards rushing, 1 TD), WR/RB Austin Collins (23 rushing, 62 receiving, 2 TD) and WR Aaron Tena (86 receiving, 1 TD) all were big contributors as well for the Eagles. Defensively Wyatt Fonte (12) and Casey Midcap (11) led all Eagles in tackles. Brush comes into the contest at 0-2 overall and had a bye last week. The bye for Brush could have been a good thing to help refocus and get ready for the final stretch. Brush on the season has looked to their rushing attack to lead the way with 230 yards rushing. RB Jolani Thomas leads all rushers with 137 yards. QB Eric Rico leads the passing attack with 152 yards. Defensively Brush looks to Percy Odle (24 tackles), Konrad Castrup (15 tackles), and Kaleb Jimenez (12 tackles) to be leaders on defense.
2A Salida (1-2) at Rye (0-2), Friday at 7pm
We head back west to Rye for our next contest as Salida hits to the road to face off against Rye. Salida comes into the contest at 1-2 overall. Salida moved into the win column for the first time this season with a 28 to 15 win over Florence. Salida was powered by their rushing attack with ran for 213 yards in the game. RB Casen Pridemore lead all rushers with 125 yards and 2 TDs. RB Wyatt Farney pitched in another 71 yards while WR Bryce Rodrigue led all receivers. Defensively the Spartans had three tacklers over 10 in the games in Luke Clanton (12), Casen Pridemore (10), and Anthony Taverna (10). Rye comes into the contest at 0-2 overall and they are looking for their first win of the season. Rye had a bye last week and offensively have scored just 7 points. Rye has been led by their rushing attack with has 377 yards on the season. RB/QB Enoch Farney leads all rushers with 227 yards and RB Josh George is #2 in rushing with 82 yards and 1 TD. Defensively Rye has 4 players over 10 tackles and two over 20. Jose Martinez leads all tacklers with 24 and Beau Hicks is #2 in tackles with 20.
#2 Limon (2-0) at 2A Bennett (1-2), Friday at 7pm
We head just outside of Denver for our next contest as the Limon Badgers make the quick trip up I70 to face the Bennett Tigers. Limon comes into the contest at 2-0 overall and coming off a bye. Limon game was a 35 to 14 win over Flatirons Academy. Limon so far this season has ran wild racking up 743 yards in just two games. QB Aiden Kollath leads the offense with 183 yards passing, 227 yards rushing, and 6 rushing TDs. RB Zac Carr (189 rushing), RB Camdyn Tacha (168 rushing, 2 TDs), and RB Jacob Jaklich (143 rushing, 3 TDs) are also some key contributors on offense. Defensively Limon has 5 players over 10 tackles and are led by Keagan Mellott (12) and Carlos Nunez (12). Bennett comes into the contest at 1-2 overall. Bennett is coming off a loss to Lamar 43 to 16. Bennett on the season is led by their rushing attack which has racked up 607 yards and 7 TDs. RB Cougar Cronk leads all rushers with 2224 yards and 1 TD and QB Brody Hawes is #2 in rushing with 203 yards and 3 TDs while also throwing for 88 yards on the season. Defensively Bennett has five players that have over 10 tackles this season. Brody Hawes (21), Kenneth Jordan (19), and Xander Petre (14) lead the Tigers in tackles.
#8 Highland (2-1) at Denver Christian (1-2), Friday at 6pm
We make the quick trip into Denver for our next contest as Highland makes the trip down I25 to face Denver Christian. Highland comes into the contest at 2-1 overall. Highland picked up their first loss of the season to Wiggins last week 14 to 0. This was a defensive battle as Wiggins was able to get just enough offense to pull off the win. Highland offensively struggled to get much going racking up 145 yards of total offense. QB John Bingley lead the offense with 125 yards passing and 18 yards rushing. Defensively Highland forced a pair of INTS by Tyler Varra and Colten Jackson. Ira Sittner (16), Colten Jackson (14), and Elijah Elder (11) lead the Huskies in tackles. Denver Christian comes into the contest at 1-2 overall. Denver Christian fell to 2A #2 Kent Denver last week 42-6. Denver Christian played tough defensively holding Kent Denver to just 21 points in the first half. Denver Christian is normally powered by their rushing attack as RB Diego Pellegrini leads all rushers with 246 yards and 1 TD. QB Trenton Steeves is also off to a solid start with 284 yards passing and 2 TDs. Defensively Quinn Barkema (22 tackles) and Ben Pereira (15 tackles) lead the Thunder.
2A Banning Lewis (0-3) at North Fork (1-1), Saturday at 11am
We take a trip to the western slope for are penultimate game. North Fork will play host to Banning Lewis on Saturday. North Fork comes into the contest at 1-1 overall. North Fork will be looking to bounce back from a loss last week to Monte Vista 43 to 20. In the game North Fork ran the ball effectively rushing for 257 yards. RB Derick Sievertsen lead all rushers with 138 yards and 1 TD while QB Braeden Flores also ran for 47 yards and a TD. Defensively North Fork was led by Jakob Carver who had 10 tackles while Treyven Stevens, Stellar Cook, and Joe Hollembeak all had 6 tackles. Banning Lewis comes into the contest at 0-3 overall. Banning Lewis has played a tough schedule to open the season facing ranked teams in Alamosa and University. Last week Banning Lewis lost to Sterling 34 to 12. Offensively Banning Lewis racked up 214 yards of total offense. QB Sam Early lead the offense with 85 yards passing, 62 yards rushing, and 2 TDs. Defensively Jordan Jones leads the way for the Stallions with 15 tackles. Cam Leggett and Mekhi Hart also pitched in over 10 tackles last week.
#9 Yuma (1-1) vs Torrington WY (1-1), Friday at 7pm
The final game of the top 8 features an out of state battle between Yuma and Torrington WY. Yuma comes into the contest at 1-1 overall and had a bye last week. Yuma last win was over Roaring Fork (50-6) on 9/6. Yuma through two games has been lead by their rushing attack. QB Jonathan Thomson leads the way for the Outlaws with 78 yards passing and 170 yards rushing. RB Daden Beauprez leads all RBs with 76 yards and a TD. Defensively Jonathan Thomson leads the way with 14 tackles and David Covarrubias and James Brandner are #2 with 9 tackles. Torrington WY is 1-1 on the season they are coming off a 26-6 win over Wheatland. Last season Torrington went 9-3 in Class 2A.
