Fall sports action in the Arkansas Valley is starting to heat up. Let’s take a look back at last week…

CHERAW
Volleyball
Two matches for the Lady Wolverines last week and both ended well for them. It started with an Arkansas Valley matchup with Las Animas on Tuesday, Cheraw would win 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16). A league matchup with Cheyenne Wells on Friday night was just what everyone expected. A five set thriller, capped off with a Cheraw win (25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 22-25, 15-11). The Lady Wolverines enter this week 5-1 Overall and 2-1 in the 1A High Plains.

Football
The Wolverine football team was put to the test against Cheyenne Wells on Friday night. The Tigers, the #1 team in the state, did not hold anything back and took the win 66-0. Cheraw is now 1-2 Overall and 0-2 in the 6-Man Southeast League.

CROWLEY COUNTY
Volleyball
A 1-2 week for the Lady Chargers started on Tuesday night against Granada. The Bobcats were all over the Chargers and took the win in three (25-22, 27-25, 25-12). Thursday was an Arkansas Valley rivalry renewed as Crowley County invaded the Melon Dome for a matchup with Rocky Ford. It took four sets but the Lady Chargers came out on top (25-23, 25-8, 13-25, 25-18). A road trip to Haxtun came up empty for Crowley County on Saturday as it was all Bulldogs from the start to get a sweep (25-9, 25-8, 25-4). Crowley County enters the week 3-7 Overall and 1-3 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football
Along with their volleyball team the Charger football team made the trip to Haxtun for a matchup with the Bulldogs, it was a tough afternoon for the Chargers as they would fall 62-0. Crowley County enters their homecoming week 0-3 Overall.

FOWLER
Volleyball
Fowler continued winning on Tuesday as they had a trip to Pueblo West to take on Swallows Charter, the Grizzlies took the win in three straight (25-15, 26-24, 25-18). Thursday did not go as well for Fowler as they welcomed in Santa Fe League foe Hoehne. The Farmers took a two set to none lead over the Grizzlies and ultimately took the match 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24). Fowler enters the week 6-2 Overall and 4-1 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football
The Grizzly football team took a trip to the San Luis Valley Friday evening for a date with Sanford. Fowler kept it close with the Mustangs but Sanford would end up on top in the end 42-28. Fower enters their bye week 1-3 Overall.

LAS ANIMAS
Volleyball
An Arkansas Valley matchup and league tussle happened for Las Animas this last week. Tuesday saw the Trojans welcome in Cheraw, the Wolverines would topple them in four sets (25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16). Thursday was a trip to Walsenburg for a Santa Fe League clash. Las Animas got out to a two set lead but Walsenburg would come back for the reverse sweep (19-25, 9-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-10). Las Animas now sits at 2-7 Overall and 0-4 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football
The Trojans ran into a formidable foe Saturday in Dayspring Christian. It was a battle in Greeley for the teams. Dayspring would come out on top 24-18 to end the Trojans 3-game win streak. Las Animas sits at 3-1 Overall as they go into their bye week.

LA JUNTA
Volleyball
The Lady Tiger volleyball team continues to struggle as they dropped three matches this last week. Monday saw a three set sweep to Pueblo County (25-9, 25-10, 25-8). Tuesday saw the Tigers have a back to back for a second straight week. They would drop the match to Woodland Park in four sets (25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22). The Tigers would get a break in the middle of the week before welcoming in Salida for the home opener at Tiger Gym. Salida was not a friendly guest and left with the sweep (25-22, 25-17, 25-19). La Junta is now 1-8 Overall and 0-3 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

Softball
La Junta ended the week 1-1. Thursday saw a matchup in the Tri-Peaks league with Alamosa be all Lady Tigers as they would get the run rule win 13-2. Friday was a different story for La Junta as they would be on the opposite end of the run rule. Discovery Canyon picked up the win 16-2. La Junta is .500 on the year at 8-8 Overall and 1-2 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

Football
La Junta welcomed in #1 TCA for an afternoon contest at Tiger Stadium Saturday. It was all Titans in this one as La Junta would fall 46-0. The Tigers have now lost back to back games and are 2-2 Overall as they head into the bye week.

MANZANOLA
Volleyball
Manzanola had the lightest schedule of our Arkansas Valley teams. They had one match on Saturday in which they fell to Hanover in five sets (18-25, 25-17, 12-25, 25-19, 15-9). The Lady Bobcats are 0-13 Overall and 0-1 in the 1A Fishers Peak.

- Saturday (September 28): @ Springfield
Football
The Bobcats made the trip to Hanover on Saturday and came away empty handed. It was all Hornets as they took the win 66-19. Manzanola now sits at 1-2 Overall and 0-1 in the 6-Man Central.

ROCKY FORD
Volleyball
Rocky Ford continues to struggle on the volleyball court. The Lady Meloneers have not won a match since the opening one against Walsenburg. They traveled to Mitchell on Tuesday and the Marauders took it in three straight (25-13, 25-22, 25-21). Thursday saw two rivals square off in the Melon Dome. Crowley County got the better of Rocky Ford in four sets (25-23, 25-8, 13-25, 25-18). Rocky Ford is now 1-9 Overall and 1-3 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Softball
The Lady Meloneers were only able to complete one game this week as the Tuesday game with Southeast Colorado got postponed in the 4th inning. Thursday saw Florence come to town for a meeting. Rocky Ford was all over the Huskies as they took the win 13-3. The Lady Meloneers are 10-5-1 Overall and 3-0 in the 3A Tri-Peaks.

Rocky Ford picked up their first win since 2021 and the first in the 8-man division as they took the win when they traveled to Walsenburg Friday night 24-20. Rocky Ford enters homecoming week 1-2 Overall.

SWINK
Volleyball
Swink continued their winning ways this last week as they continue to ride a 7-game winning streak that has also seen them not drop a set. Tuesday a home meeting with Walsenburg ended in the favor of the Lady Lions in three (25-10, 25-10, 25-13). Thursday was much of the same as Swink would sweep Granada (25-18, 25-14, 26-24). Swink comes into the week 8-2 Overall and 6-1 in the 2A Santa Fe.

Football
Off their bye week Swink traveled to Calhan for the Bulldogs homecoming. A game that Calhan handled from the start saw the final score be 36-8 in favor of the Bulldogs. Swink looks to regroup as they’ll try to spoil Crowley County’s homecoming this week. The Lions currently sit at 0-3 Overall.
