Class 3A Softball Weekly Recap and Review

With the end of the regular season coming up, we look at the top two 3A teams in each league if they are close or within the 32 team playoff bubble.

Denver Metro League

The Academy

The Wildcats are currently leading the Denver Metro League and are sitting 7th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. After a busy previous week, where the Academy beat Weld Central 11-5 and Skyview 16-1, lost to Elizabeth 11-1, and then beat Fort Lupton 12-3, the team is 14-6 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Wildcats have three games left this season and will face Jefferson Academy on 10/4, Forge Chrisitan on 10/8, and Peak to Peak on 10/10 to wrap up the season. As a team, The Academy has 204 runs, 184 hits, 159 RBI, 12 home runs, and 32 stolen bases.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian sits right behind The Academy in the CHSAA Seeding Index at number 8 and is also behind them in league rankings at number 2. Overall, the Fury is 13-5 with a 3-1 league record. They are also on a four-game winning streak after getting the wins over Arvada 8-0, Peak to Peak 13-2, and Jefferson Academy 22-2. To complete their season, Forge Christian will face Wray/Yuma on 10/3 in a double header, The Academy in a league title game on 10/8, Arvada on 10/10 and Jefferson Academy on 10/11. The team this season has managed to get 190 runs, 200 hits, 150 RBI, 2 home runs, and 52 stolen bases.

Lower Platte League

Limon

Limon currently has a 4-14 overall record and a 2-0 league record. They sit 1st in the Lower Platte League and are currently within the playoff bubble at 29 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Badgers were able to add more wins to their record last week after they beat Wray/Yuma in a double header, 18-8 and 18-12, but then lost to Sterling 18-6. To finish up their season, Limon will face Burlington on 10/7 in a double header, Rocky Ford on 10/8, and Holyoke on 10/12 in a double header. The team currently has 92 runs, 99 hits, 60 RBI, 1 home run and 59 stolen bases.

Holyoke

Holyoke currently sits outside of the playoff cutoff at 35 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Dragons are currently 8-11 overall, 2-0 in league play and 2nd in the Lower Platte League.  Holyoke has been on a hot streak lately and has won their last four games which were against Bennett 23-13 and 20-3, Platte Valley 17-14, and Middle Park 17-3. The team will be looking to keep this momentum going when they face Wray/Yuma in a double header on 10/5, and then they will battle Limon for the league title in a double header on 10/12. The team stats for the Dragons are 185 runs, 157 hits, 118 RBI, 2 home runs, and 91 stolen bases.

Patriot League

University

University is currently 13-5 overall, 6-0 in league play, 1st in the Patriot League, and 3rd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Bulldogs are on an 8-game winning streak after they beat The Academy 15-2, Platte Valley 16-0, and Brush 11-0. Today will be a battle for University as they will be facing Eaton in a league title showdown. They will then wrap up the end of their season with games against Greeley West on 10/5, Resurrection Christian on 10/8, Strasburg on 10/10, and Fort Lupton on 10/12. University this season has 171 runs, 178 hits, 144 RBI, 15 home runs, and 33 stolen bases.

Eaton

Eaton has remained at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index from the beginning of the season until now. The Reds are 16-3 overall with a 5-0 league record and currently are 2nd in the Patriot League. This last week was a bit of a challenge for Eaton. The team lost to Holy Family 4-2, beat Lyons 17-4, and then lost to Riverdale Ridge 8-1. Today will be the league title battle between Eaton and University.  With the rest of this week and next week holding the end of the season, Eaton will face Platte Valley on 10/5, Weld Central on 10/8, and Resurrection Christian on 10/10.  For the season up to this point, the team has 226 runs, 236 hits, 129 RBI,18 home runs, and 45 stolen bases.

Tri Peaks I

Lamar

Sitting solid towards the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index at number four, the Thunder are 14-5 overall, 4-1 in league play and are 1st in the Tri-Peaks I league. They have won their last three games including the games against Rocky Ford (9-2) and La Junta (8-3). Lamar will be looking to keep their success going as the wrap up the end of the regular season with games against Alamosa on 10/5, Southeast Colorado on 10/8, Rocky Ford on 10/10, and Brush on 10/12. The Thunder so far this season have gotten 162 runs, 184 hits, 134 RBI, 9 home runs, and 52 stolen bases.

Rocky Ford

Rocky Ford in currently 12-6-1 overall, 4-1 in league play, 2nd in the Tri-Peaks I league and are 6th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Meloneers won their last two games which were against La Junta (11-1) and Alamosa (12-3). With only three games left in the regular season, the team will be looking to finish strong and potentially overtake Lamars spot for league leader. These games will be against Southeast Colorado on 10/3, Limon on 10/8, and Lamar on 10/10.

Tri Peaks II

Florence

Florence currently sits inside of the playoff bubble at 26 in the CHSAA Seeding index. The Huskies are 7-5-1 so far with a 2-0 league record, which puts them 1st in the Tri-Peaks II League. The team lost their last couple of games which were against Canon City, 14-6, and Gunnison 12-2. Florence will need to win as many games as possible to maintain the league position and ensure their ricket into the postseason. These games will be against Woodlan Park in a league title game, on 10/3, Sand Creek in a double header on 10/5, Dolores Huerta on 10/8, James Irwin on 10/10, and Burlington on 10/12 in a double header. This season, this team has 135 runs, 103 hits, 84 RBI, and 46 stolen bases.

Western Slope League

Montezuma-Cortez

Montezuma-Cortez sits at 18 in the CHSAA Seeding index and is well within the playoff bubble. The team is 13-9 overall with a 9-3 league record and are currently 1st in the Western Slope League. The last few games for the Panthers were against Rifle and Delta where the Panthers got the win over Rifle 19-8 and 8-5 but fell to Delta 5-3. Now the team just must wait until the end of next week for postseason play to begin. For the regular season, the team accumulated 260 runs, 252 hits, 217 RBI, 9 home runs, and 58 stolen bases.

Cedaredge

Sitting at 15 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Cedaredge is 13-6 overall with an 8-3 league record and are 2nd in the Western Slope League. The Bruins have won their last seven games in a row including their games against Delta (12-11), Moffat County (16-1, 19-0), and Eagle Valley (7-2, 13-1). The Bruins will wrap up the end of the regular season by facing Gunnison on 10/7 and Rifle on 10/11. Team stats for Cedaredge are 226 runs, 224 hits, 182 RBI, 13 home runs, and 98 stolen bases.

CSML North League

The Classical Academy

TCA is 14-6 overall, 6-1 in league play and are currently 2nd in the CSML North League. Currently, the team is well within the playoff bubble and sit 10th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Last week, the team fell to Widefield 19-9, but was about to get wins over Mitchell 20-0 and Sand Creek 17-0. The team will wrap up their season with games against Mitchell on 10/3, Falcon on 10/8 and Elizabeth on 10/10 before they head into postseason play.  Stats for the team are 221 runs, 181 hits, 174 RBI, 5 home runs, and 38 stolen bases.

Denver Prep League

Kennedy

Sitting right at the cusp of the playoff bubble, Kennedy sits at number 31 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Commanders are currently 9-10 overall with a 401 league record and hold the 1st place spot in the Denver Prep League. During the last week of play, the team was able to beat Denver West 17-2, Hinkley 12-7, Lincoln 23-2, but fell to Alameda in close battle of 19-17. Kennedy will close out their regular season against Millen on 10/3, Overland on 10/8, and Arvada on 10/12, where the Commanders will need to win as many games as they can to secure their spot in the postseason. Up to this point, the team has had 187 runs, 143 hits, 138 RBI, 10 home runs and 86 stolen bases.

Frontier League

Arvada

Arvada is currently 3rd in the Frontier League with a 12-6 overall record and a 6-2 league record. They currently sit at 21 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. During the last few days of play, the Bulldogs were able to beat Woodland Park 14-4 and Adams Cite 5-3, but fell to Fort Lupton 10-7. Today will be a league battle against Alameda on the road and then Arvada will wrap up their regular season against Denver West on 10/4, Forge Christian on 10/10, and Kennedy on 10/12. For the season, the Bulldogs have 186 runs, 143 hits, 147 RBI, 6 home runs, and 90 stolen bases.

Alameda

Alameda currently sits at 28 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Pirates have an 11-9 overall record, are 4-4 in league play and are 4th in the Frontier League. Alameda got wins over Kennedy 19-17 and Lincoln 16-0 last week, but fell to Centaurus 13-0. The Pirates will be looking to win their remaining games to stay in the playoff bubble which will be against Arvada on 10/3 and Mitchell on 10/12.Team stats for Alameda are 180 runs, 108 hits, 115 RBI, 3 home runs, and 94 stolen bases. 

Longs Peak League

Wellington

Wellington is currently 11-8 overall, 6-6 in league play and are 5th in the Longs Peak League. The Eagles are 8th in the CHSAA seeding index, well inside of the playoff bubble. Wellington won their last two games which were against Northridge 14-3 and Mountain View 16-1. The team will be looking to continue their wins the remainder of the season and will see Greeley Central on 10/3, Timnath on 10/5, Thompson Valley on 10/8, and Roosevelt on 10/10. For the season, the team has 168 runs, 146 hits, 112 RBI, 4 home runs and 79 stolen bases.

Greely Central

Greeley Central sits close to the playoff bubble edge at 30 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Wildcats are 3-14 overall, 0-11 in league play and sit in 9th in the Longs Peak League. The team lost their previous games last week which were against Berthoud (20-1) and Northridge (16-0). Greeley Central will need to try to add a win or two to their record to secure their playoff spot. They will wrap up their regular season agaisn Wellington on 10/3, Mountain View in a double header on 10/5, Greeley West In 10/7, Severance on 10/9, and Timnath on 10/10. So far for the season, the Wildcats have 40 runs, 63 hits, 37 RBI, 1 home run and 20 stolen bases.
