
Class 3A Softball Postseason – Tournament Preview
In the final week of the season, we take a look at the beginning matchups in the tournament and see how the teams did in the season and how the journey in the postseason is going so far for these teams. The bracket is linked below:

1. Eaton Vs. 16. Brush
The Eaton Reds are 22-3 on the season and went perfect in league play with a 9-0 record. Sitting in the number 1 position for the post season with a 2-0 postseason record after beating Kennedy 12-0 and Montezuma-Cortez 15-0,, the Reds will face the Brush Beetdiggers, who are 9-16 on the season, 3-6 in league play and 1-1 in the post season after beating Peak to Peak 15-2 and falling to Southeast Colorado 6-0. These teams met in the middle of September where Eaton got the win 11-1 in six innings. Eaton has a 12.9 scoring average compared to Brush’s 7.5, and the Reds average 11.7 hits vs the Beetdiggers 8.7. In common opponents faced, including the other teams in the tournament, Eaton is 12-1 and Brush is 5-9. The winner of this game will advance to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of Lyons Vs Wellington on 10/25.
2. Strasburg Vs 15. La Junta
Sitting in the number 2 spot in the top 16, Strasburg is 20-5 overall on the season, they went 7-2 in league play, and are currently 2-0 in the postseason with wins over Greely Central (16-1) and Resurrection Christian (15-0). The Indians will be facing the Tigers who went 10-15 on the season and 2-6 in league play and are 1-1 in the post season after beating Delta 7-4 and falling to Lamar 13-1. Strasburg has 11.2 average runs and 10.2 hits per game while La Junta averages 5.7 runs and 6.7 hits. In common faced opponents, including Southeast Colorado, Rocky Ford, and University, Strasburg is 8-2 while La Junta is 5-6. These teams have not faced one another yet this season, but the winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of Forge Christian and The Academy.
3. University Vs. 14. Montezuma-Cortez
University snagged the number 3 seed in the tournament after going 18-7 overall on the season, 8-1 in league play, and are currently 2-0 in the postseason with wins over Wray/Yuma 12-0 and Alamosa 10-0. They will be facing the number 14 team in Montezuma-Cortez who went 14-10 overall, 9-3 in league play, and are 1-1 so far in the postseason after beating Sterling 10-4 and losing to Eaton 15-0. The Panthers average 11.3 runs per game and 10.7 hits, while the Bulldogs average 10.4 runs and 10.4 hits per game. These teams have not met yet this season but in common opponents including Eaton and Alamosa, Montezuma Cortez is 2-2 and University is 2-1. The winner of this game will move on to face the winner of Rocky Ford and Alamosa in the quarterfinals.
4. Lamar Vs 13. Resurrection Christian
The Thunder enter the tournament after going 20-5 on the season, 7-1 in league play, 2-0 in the first round of the postseason, beating Alameda 12-0 and La Junta 13-1 and being in the final tournament in the 4th seed. They will be facing Resurrection Christian who is in the 13th seed who went 16-8 overall on the season, 4-5 in league play, and 1-1 in the first round of the postseason, beating Gunnison 12-11 and losing to Strasburg 15-0. Lamar averages 8.6 runs and 9.6 hits per game while Resurrection Christian averages 10.8 runs and 9.6 hits. The Cougars and the Thunder have not faced each other this season, but in common opponents including Brush, University and Eaton, Lamar is 3-1 and Resurrection Christian is 2-2. The winner of this game will move on to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of Southeast Colorado and TCA.
5. Southeast Colorado Vs 12. The Classical Academy
Southeast Colorado takes the number 5 seed after going 14-6 overall on the season with a 5-3 league record and 2-0 so far in the post season, beating Limon 14-2 and Brush 6-0. They will be facing The Classical Academy who went 16-9 on the season, 7-3 in league play, and are 1-1 so far in the playoffs, beating Meeker 8-7 and falling to Rocky Ford 17-2. TCA averages 10.2 runs per and 8.2 hits per game compared to the 8.5 runs and 9.6 hits per game for Southeast Colorado. These two teams have not met this season, but have both faced Rocky Ford where TCA lost and Southeast Colorado went 1-1. The winner of this game will advance to the quarter-finals and will face the winner of Lamar and Resurrection Christian.
6. Rocky Ford Vs. 11. Alamosa.
Rocky Ford went 16-8-1 on the season, 5-3 in league play, 2-0 in the postseason, and was able to get the 6th seed in the tournament. The Meloneers beat TCA 17-2 last week and Sand Creek 15-0 to snag that 6th seed. They will face the number 11 seed in Alamosa who went 12-13 on the season and 1-7 in league play. The Mean Moose are 1-1 in postseason play after beating Cedaredge to kick off the post season 5-4, and falling to #3 University 10-0. Rocky Ford averages 8.6 runs and 9.1 hits per game while Alamosa averages 7.7 runs and 6.8 hits per game. The Meloneers and the Moose have met twice this season and Rocky Ford got the win over Alamosa both times. In common opponents Alamosa is 4-6 and Rocky Ford is 6-4. The winner of this game will advance to the quarterfinals will face the winner of University and Montezuma-Cortez.
7. Forge Chrisitan Vs. 10. The Academy
Forge Christian sits in the 7th seed after going 19-6 overall on the season, 4-2 in league play, and after starting their post season run with a win over Valley 17-7 and Wellington 10-19. They will face #10 The Academy who is 17-8 overall on the season, 5-1 in league play, and 1-1 in the postseason. Last week The Academy beat Florence 16-4 but fell to Lyons 13-9. Forge Christian averages 11 runs and 10.4 hits per game while The Academy averages 10.3 runs and 9.9 hits per game. These two teams have met twice so far this season and The Academy has pulled out the win both times (12-6, 10-4). Forge Christian will be looking to get their first win against the Academy to avoid an “upset”. The winner of this game will advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner between Strasburg and La Junta.
8. Lyons Vs. 9. Wellington
Lyons take the number 8 seed after going 17-8 on the season, 6-3 in league play, and 2-0 so far in the post season. The Lions took the wins over Arvada 13-3 and The Academy 13-9 last week and now will face number 9 Wellington. The Wellington Eagles are 15-10 overall on the season, 9-7 in league play, and are 1-1 in postseason play. Wellington averages 9.8 runs and 8 hits per game compared to 10 runs and 9 hits for Lyons. These teams have met once this season where Lyons was able to get the win 14-12. In Common opponents, Lyons is 6-3 while Wellington is 7-3. The winner of this game will advance to the quarter-finals and will face the winner of Eaton and Brush.
