
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Preview & Regional Outlook

With the end of the regular season on the horizon, we look at the top 8 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index and the bottom 8 teams and talk about how their season is going and take a peak at potential postseason outcomes.

Simla
Simla remains at the top of the pack with a 19-1 overall record, a 7-0 league record and are holding the 1st place spot in the Black Forest League. Simla’s single loss on the season comes from their game against Merino where they lost 3-1. Luckily, the team has not shown that loss to be detrimental to their success, and they keep adding wins to their record, including in their recent games against Liberty Tree Academy and Fowler. The Cubs have a total of 5 sets dropped on the entire season, and they will be looking to keep that success to finish out the season. Their remaining games will be against Cheraw on 10/26, Flaming on 10/26 and Sedgwick County on 11/2.
Sedgwick County
Sitting behind Simla in the number two spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Sedwick County has a 16-3 overall record, are 5-1 in league play and are 2nd in the Lower Platte League. The three losses for the team are from their games against Chase County (3-1), Idalia (3-0) and Merino (3-0), but was able to get a win in their most recent game against Holyoke 3-0. The Cougars have lost 15 total sets so far this season, and look to keep adding wins to wrap up the regular season. To finish up the season, Sedwick County will face Akron on 10/25, Heritage Christian pn 10/29, Haxtun on 11/1 and Simla in a battle for the 1st seed on 11/2.
Lyons
Lyons is currently on a 9 game winning streak after beating Estes Park and Belleview Christian 3-0. The teams is 16-2 overall, 10-1 in league, 2nd in the Mile High League and have lost only 7 sets so far this season. Their two losses of the season were against Forge Christian and Flatirons Academy before Lyons started their win run. The Lions will be looking to maintain their success to wrap up the regular season and will be facing Union Colony Prep on 10/29, SkyView Academy on 10/30, and Eagle Ridhe Academy on 11/2.
Meeker
Sitting 1st in the Western Slope League and 4th in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Meeker is 13-3 overall on the season, 8-1 in league play, and have lost 10 sets this season. The Cowboys have won 10 games in a row now including their recent games against North Fork (3-2) and Caprock Academy (3-0). Meeker still has 6 games to complete the regular season and will be looking to up their win streak to 16 at the end of it. These games will be against Vail Mountain on 10/25, Olathe on 10/26, Monte Vista and Middle Park on 11/1, and Gunnison and Salida on 11/2.
Colorado Springs Christian
The Lions have been able to recover from their losses to Merino and Alamosa (2-1) earlier this month and got wins over Manitou Springs and Kent Denver, both 3-0. This puts Colorado Spring Christian with a 17-4 overall record, a 9-1 league record, 2nd in the Tri-Peaks League and 5th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Lions have lost 16 sets this season and will be looking to get through the rest of the season without additional losses. To end the regular season, the Lions will be facing La Junta on 10/29, and Ellicott on 10/30.
Swink
The Swink Lions are 18-4 overall on the season, 7-1 in league play, 1st in the Santa Fe League and are currently 6th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. After losing to Rye 3-0 earlier this month, Swink was able to come out and beat Limon and Peyton both 3-0. With 14 sets lost so far this season, including in their lost games against Fowler, McClave, Hoehne, and Rye the Lions will be looking to not add more dropped sets in their last game of the regular season which will be against Fowler on 10/29.
Wiggins
Wiggins currently has a 12-8 overall record, a 4-2 league record, are 4th in the Lower Platte League and are 7th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Tigers have won their last three games which were against Centauri (2-0), Lamar (2-1) and Briggsdale (3-2). The team has dropped 26 sets this season and will be looking to keep adding wins to their record and stay in the top 10 of the seeding index. To end the regular season, Wiggins will play Holyoke on 10/25, Strasburg on 10/31, and Wray on 11/1.
Del Norte
Del Norte is on a 7 game win streak after beating their recent opponents of Buena Vista 3-2, and Trinidad 3-0. The Tigers are 16-1 overall, with their lone loss being to Sargent, are 5-0 in league play, 1st in the Southern Peaks League and 8th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The team has lost 18 sets this season and will be looking to keep their success to finish the regular season and head to the postseason. Del Norte’s remaining games will be against Sangre de Cristo on 10/25, Monte Vista on 10/26, Hoehne on 10/29, and McClave on 10/31.

Gilpin County
Gilpin County currently sits at 29 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, a place that is not comfortable to make it into the postseason, but a likely position. The Eagles are 9-8 on the season, 6-5 in league play and are 6th in the Mile High League. The team has had a mixed October with 3 wins and 5 losses, including a win over Belleview Christian 3-0 and a loss to Highland 3-2 in their most recent games. Gilpin County will need to win to ensure their spot in the playoffs and will be looking to have success when they end the regular season with games against Clear Creek on 10/29, and Estes Park on 10/30.
Loveland Classic
Loveland Classic is 12-7 overall on the season, 9-1 in league play, 2nd in the Foothills League and is 30 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. In their recent games, the Lions got the win over Nederland 3-1 but fell to STEMSHR 3-1. Loveland Classic has one regular season game left on their schedule, which is against Highland on 10/28 and then will play in tournament play on 11/2. They will be looking to win as many games as they can to ensure they make it to the post season.
Fountain Valley
Fountain Valley sits at 31 in the CHSAA Seeding index, with an 11-4 overall record, a 4-2 league record, and are 3rd in the Black Forest League. The team is currently on a 4 game winning streak, (Score against Thomas MacLaren School not reported and is not included) which were against TCSS, ACA, Peyton and Cripple Creek-Victor. To end the regular season, Fountain Valley will face ECA on 10/29 and Miami-Yoder on 10/31 and they will need to win to remain comfortable in the playoff bubble.
Ascent Classical Academy
The Guardians are currently 12-6 overall on the season with a 7-1 league record, are 3rd in the Foothills League, and are 32nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. After their loss to DECHS 3-1, the team was able to bounce back and get the win over ACANC 3-1 yesterday. Today the team will face TPCA at home and then will wrap up the regular season with games against Two Roads Charter School on 10/29 and TPCA on 11/2. These games will need to be wins for the Guardians to ensure they make it to postseason play.
Swallows Charter Academy
SCA is currently on a 3 game win streak, beating Peyton, Trinidad and Rocky Ford all 3-0 in the last couple of week. The Spartans are 13-6 overall on the season, 3-4 in league play, are 5th in the Santa Fe League and are 33rd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. SCA will need to win as many of their last games as possible to remain inside of the playoff bubble. These games will be against Rye on 10/30, tournament play on 11/2, and a game against Las Animas on 11/2.
Byers
Byers is currently 7-13 overall on the season, 3-2 in league play, 3rd in the Union Pacific league and are at a precarious 34 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Byers lost to Holyoke 3-0, beat Peyton 3-2, and lost to Limon 3-1. The Bulldogs have a tough end to their season and will need to try to win as many games as they can to ensure they stay in postseason contention. These games will be against Sargent, Limon and Fowler on 11/2.
Wray
Currently the penultimate team to make the postseason at 35 in the CHSAA Seeding Index, Wray is 8-12 overall on the season, 1-5 in league play and are 8th in the Lower Platte League. The Eagles were able to get the win over Brush 3-0 but fell in their most recent game to Akron 3-0. Wray will have to win in order to remain in the postseason bubble. Their final regular season games will be against Yuma on 10/25, Caliche on 10/29, and Wiggins on 11/1.
Front Range Christian
Front Range Christian is currently sitting at the edge of the playoff bubble as the last team to get in at 36 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Falcons are 10-10 overall on the season, 5-5 in league play and 7th in the Mile High League. The last two games for the team resulted in wins for Front Range Christian which were against Dawson School (3-0) and Bishop Machebeuf (3-1). In order to stay in the playoff bubble, Front Range Christian has to win out and/or hope for upsets to take place around them. They will wrap up the season with games against Heritage Christian on 10/25, SkyView Academy on 10/28 and Highland on 11/1.
