
MileHigh Prep Report Class 2A Girls Basketball Preseason Rankings
Note: I am just going to quickly give the rankings and a quick breakdown of what they are returning. I will be doing my District/League Predictions for Class 1A thru 3A later in the week. Practice is underway today and games kickoff for Basketball December 2nd.

| #1 | Merino Defending State Champions | Merino is your defending State Champions from a season ago. They will be looking to push for back-to-back state titles and return nearly their entire roster. Merino will lose their #2 scorer & rebounder from last season. Merino will look to Kya Piel (15.6 ppg), Brooklyn Sutter (10.4 ppg), and Jay Lynch (9.3 ppg) to lead the Rams to another State Title. |
| #2 | Simla Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, 3rd Place) | Simla made the state tournament and nearly upset Merino in the Semifinals. This year they will look to take that next step and win it all. Simla does lose a few key pieces from last season but return 4 of their top 6 scorers. Kylie Maranville (11.5 ppg), Carlee Cox (10.4 ppg), and Katie Gotschall (9.1 ppg) are all back to lead the Cubs to a deep State Tournament run. |
| #3 | Sedgwick County Lost at Regionals to Mancos | Sedgwick County did not make the State Tournament last season falling in the regional finals to Mancos. Sedgwick County will return nearly their entire roster to make it back to the state tournament. Sedgwick County will lose 2 of their top 6 scorers from last season. Abigail Dille (18.3 ppg) is back to be a leader and is a POY contender along with Dille Sedgco also returns Lainee Nein (13.4 ppg) and Keyana Ehnes (2.4 ppg). |
| #4 | Burlington Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, runner ups) | Burlington was your runner up last season falling in the State Championship to Merino. Burlington will be looking to finish the mission this season but have a few key holes to fill. Burlington will lose their #2 scorer and a key bench piece from last season. Burlington will look to Kiyarra Williams (17.0 ppg) who is also a POY candidate, Lynzee Neal (9.8 ppg) and Bethany Cure (7.2 ppg) to help Burlington push for the State Title. |
| #5 | Rangely Made State Tournament (Went 0-2) | Rangely made the State Tournament last season going 0-2 and this year they will be looking to push for a deeper run in the state tournament. Rangely will lose a few key pieces from last season including their #3 scorer, top rebounder, and #4 scorer. Rangely will return Miah Wren (16.4 ppg) and Ashlynn Ducey (11.9 ppg) to be leaders but also look for Emmeree Wagner (6.9 ppg) to step up for the Panthers. |
| #6 | Hoehne Made State Tournament (Went 0-2) | Hoehne made the State Tournament last season going 0-2 but gaining valuable experience. Hoehne will lose a key piece as they lose their top scorer and top rebounder from last season. Hoehne will look to Ellegra Gutierrez (9.1 ppg), Phoenix San Roman (7.1 ppg), and Kaylah Crosson (6.5 ppg) to step up this season for Hoehne. |
| #7 | Sanford Lost at Regionals to Wiggins | Sanford did not make the State Tournament last year falling in the regional finals to Wiggins. Sanford will be looking to take that next step this season and push to the state tournament. Sanford will return all but one player from last years roster. Shasta Bond (10.3 ppg), Brooklyn Reynolds (10.2 ppg), and Claire Crowther (6.4 ppg) look to lead the Mustangs back to the State Tournament. |
| #8 | Akron Lost at regionals to Denver Christian | Akron did not make it to the State Tournament last season falling at the regional finals to Denver Christian. Akron had a few injuries last season that set them back but allowed a talented freshman class to get plenty of playing time. Akron will lose their leading scorer from last season but look for this team to be a threat this year. Akron will look for Kashlee Randel (8.5 ppg), Taylor Benish (4.5 ppg), and Mikenna Weers (4.5 ppg) to lead the Rams back to the State Tournament. |
| #9 | Dove Creek Made State Tournament (Went 2-1 5th Place 1A) | Dove Creek will make the jump into Class 2A this season and should be a top contender right away in Class 2A. Dove Creek does lose key pieces from last season in their #1 and #3 scorers but have plenty of size and talent back to be a top team. Ralynn Hickman (12.8 ppg) is back to be a leader for Dove Creek but look for Taylor Hampton (7.8 ppg) and Hadley Hatfield (4.1 ppg) to step up for Dove Creek this season. |
| #10 | West Grand Lost at regionals to Dayspring Christian | West Grand did not make it to the State Tournament last season falling at Regionals to Dayspring Christian. West Grand will return their entire roster from last season and will be senior heavy to help push for a State Tournament berth. West Grand will look to Sage Wheatley (12.1 ppg), Makaila Gifford (8.7 ppg), and Luci Bruchez (8.0 ppg) to lead West Grand towards a State Tournament berth. |
| #11 | Sargent Lost at Regionals to Merino | Sargent did not make it to the State Tournament last season falling in the regional finals to Merino. Sargent had a very young roster last season losing just 1 senior from the team. Sargent will look for the youth to take a big step forward this season. Sargent will be led by Kandace Pargin (12.4 ppg), Angelise Sandoval (12.2 ppg), and Kimmy Pargin (5.2 ppg). |
| #12 | Gilpin County Lost at Regionals to Akron | Gilpin County did not make it to the State Tournament last season falling to Akron at regionals. Gilpin County had a lot of inexperience last season and should help them push for a deep post season run this year. Faith Ramsey (11.0 ppg) is back to lead Gilpin County but also look for Elise Vincent (8.7 ppg) and Avery Ramsey (5.9 ppg) to be leaders as well. |
| #13 | Del Norte Lost at Regionals to Mancos | Del Norte did not make the State Tournament last season falling at regionals to Mancos. Del Norte had just 1 senior on the roster last season and will be a team that should improve this season. Del Norte always plays tough defense and look for that to be the case again especially with a good incoming freshman class. Emma Parra (9.1 ppg), Kaitlyn Velasquez (7.1 ppg), and Baylie Laymon (6.4) are all back to lead Del Norte. |
| #14 | Heritage Christian Lost at regionals to Evangelical Christian | Heritage Christian did not make it to the State Tournament last year falling at regionals to Evangelical Christian. Heritage Christian will lose their top scorer from last season but return plenty of depth plus their #2 thru #4 scorers. Heritage Christian will look for Staci Brown (8.4 ppg), Sophia Case (6.4 ppg), and Sydney Nichols (5.4 ppg) to be leaders this season. |
| #15 | Plateau Valley Lost at regionals to Limon | Plateau Valley did not make it to the State Tournament last year falling to Limon. Plateau Valley will lose 2 of their top 7 scorers from last season including their #2 scorer. Plateau Valley will look for POY candidate Emaline Ealey (17.9 ppg) to be a leader this season but also look for Macy Bevan (8.4 ppg) and Presley Hawkins (6.0 ppg) to step up this year. |
