
Class 2A Girls Basketball December Recap

We come back to you in 2025 to take a look at how our top teams did during the month of December. We also see who is leading their teams so far this season and who will be the upcoming opponents as we enter the madness of the second half of the season.
Merino
So far this season, the Rams have faced Strasburg, Wray, Highland, DCA, Prairie, and Sedgwick County. Merino is currently 6-0 on the season, having beat this teams 46-19, 62-27, 73-38, 65-21, and 50-17, scoring just under 300 points so far this season. The Rams sit 2nd in the Lower Platte League. Merino will kick off 2025 against Wiggins (6-2) at home on 1/10, Peetz (2-6) at home on 1/11, and then will hit the road to face Brush (6-1) on 1/14.
Simla
Simla made it through December with a 4-1 overall record. They were able to get wins over Akron (56-43), Limon (82-14), Crowley County (70-31), and Monument Academy (91-4), but fell to Denver Christian (59-58). And has scored 357 points so far this season. The Cubs’ win over Monument Valley gave them their first league win of the season and puts Simla in 1st in the Black Forest League. Simla will be starting their new year against Byers on the road on 1/10 and then will return home to face Yuma on 1/11.
Leading the Cubs on the stat board so far in December is Kylie Maranville with 76 points, Carlee Cox with 72 points, 15 assists, 29 rebounds and 21 steals, Katie Gotschall with 57 points, 24 assists and 18 rebounds, Kylie Brickell with 16 assists and 14 steals, and Haylee Easler with 16 steals.
Burlington
Burlington finished out the 2024 portion of their season with four games, going 3-1 and getting wins over Holyoke (73-41), Ulysses (61-43), and Norton (38-35). The Cougars lone loss in December was against Colby where they fell 38-35, ending 2024 with 207 total points. Burlington will return to action in 2025 on the road to face Wray on 1/10.
Stat leaders form 2024 coming into 2025 are Kiyarra Williams with 69 points, 16 assists, 53 rebounds and 13 steals, Lynzee Neal with 39 points, 9 assists and 9 steals, Bethany Cure with 31 points, 6 assists, 34 rebounds and 14 steals, and Emma McNerney with 13 rebounds.
Rangely
So far this season the Panthers are 8-0 on the season and are currently sitting 1st in the Western Slope League. Rangely in 2024 was able to get wins over American Heritage 53-38, Intermountain Christian 64-28, De Beque 67-33, Dove Creek 69-41, Bayfield 55-24, Fowler 54-20, and Center 53-31. The team then kicked off 2025 with a win over North Fork 65-33 for a total of 415 points so far this season. The Panthers will be looking to continue their perfect record this week and will host Hayden on 1/10, will go on the road to face Soroco on 1/11 and then will be back home to play Meeker on 1/14.
Leading the Panthers so far this season on the stat board are Miah Wren with 149 points, 24 assists, and 41 steals, Ashlynn Ducey 104 points, 34 assists, and 37 steals, Aubriana Tapia with 75 points, 55 rebounds and 23 steals, Miley Chism with 11 assists and 48 rebounds, and Addison Scott with 57 rebounds.
Sedgwick County
Sedgwick County currently sits with a 4-3 overall record. To start the season, the Cougars fell to Fleming 36-39, but then was able to get the win over South Platte 59-34. Wiggins then beat Sedwick County 28-24, but the Cougars were able to bounce back and get a win over Holyoke 44-12 and then get revenge on Wiggins and beat the, 42-34. The team ended 2024 with a loss to Merino 55-15, but then kicked of 2025 with a win over Wray 59-33. The Cougars will be looking to add more wins to their record and will be start the busy part of the season against Stratton on 1/16 at home.
Leading the team so far this season are Abigail Dille with 73 points, 11 assists, and 34 rebounds, Lainee Nein with 59 points, 8 assists, 25 rebounds and 24 steals, Keyana Ehnes with 44 points, 9 assists, and 13 steals, and Ryen Carlson with 18 rebounds and 16 steals.
Sanford
Sanford finished the 2024 portion of their season with a 7-2 overall record and are starting 2025 off in 1st in the Southern Peaks League. The Mustangs kicked off their season against Salida where they lost a close one 43-40. The team then found some fire and were able to get wins over Crested Butte (73-9), Hoehne (39-10), Swink (56-18), and Del Norte (51-41). Sanford then lost in a battle against Centauri 46-41, and then was able to end the year as the champions of their holiday tournament after beating Soroco 68-18, Sierra Grande 55-24, and Mesa Vista 51-47. Sanford will be looking to build on their success and will kickoff the new year against Custer County on 1/9, and then will go on the road to face Buena Vista on 1/16.
Stat leaders so far for the Mustangs are Shasta Bond with 69 points and 33 rebounds, Claire Crowther with 56 points, 11 assists, 29 rebounds and 13 steals, Brooklyn Reynolds with 52 points, 22 assists and 19 steals, and Avery Koenig with 12 assists, 26 rebounds and 7 steals.
Hoehne
Hoehne played through 2024 and ended with a 6-1 overall record. The farmers kicked off with a massive win over Raton 50-8, and then continued that success and got wins over Des Moines 60-31 and Kim/Branson 36-35. Sanford beat Hoehne in a well fought game ending in 39-10, but the team was able to recover and end the year with wins over Pueblo Centennial 60-24, Fowler 66-39, and Monte Vista 55-37. The Farmers will start the back half of the season against Crowley County at home on 1/10 and then will go on the road to see McClave on 1/11.
Leading the Farmers so far this season are Kaylah Crosson with 88 points and 42 rebounds, Alessa Cantoria with 69 points, 35 assists, 35 rebounds and 25 steals, Braylee Foster with 65 points, 15 assists, 28 rebounds and 23 steals, and Ellegra Guiterrez with 13 assists and 31 steals.
Akron
The Rams enter 2025 with a 5-2 record with wins over Belleview Christian (82-20), Otis (41-25), Heritage Christian (30-26), DCA (66-39), and Haxtun (51-40) and losses against Simla (56-43) and Prairie (42-36). Akron will head into 2025 and will face Yuma on the road on 1/10 and then will travel to Stratton to face the Eagles on 1/11.
West Grand
West Grand had a busy 2024 portion of their season and ended with a 9-1 to head into 2025. The Mustangs were able to get wins over Monticello (70-35), Ouray (53-4), De Beque (31-16), Middle Park (42-19), Dolores (49-22), Hayden (52-43), Clear Creek (59-12), Creede (63-16), and Soroco )29-16). West Grand’s lone loss in 2024 came in their game against Mesa Vista 47-24. 2025 will start for the Mustangs against Caprock Academy on 1/10 on the road.
Stat leaders for West Grand so far this season are Sara Lechman with 125 points, 82 rebounds and 34 steals, Makaila Gifford with 114 points, 43 assists and 74 steals, Taylin Harthun with 71 points and 85 rebounds, Taylor Martinson with 20 assists, 41 rebounds and 34 steals, and Luci Bruchez with 13 assists.
Sargent
The Farmers played 6 games in 2024 and went 4-2 with wins over Mancos (49-12), Dove Creek (49-23), Sangre de Cristo (66-1), and Plateau Valley (52-32) and their two losses coming from the games against Centauri (68-31), and Cedaredge (40-36). Sargent will be kicking of 2025 on the road against Creede on 1/10 and then will host Ignacio on 1/14.
Leading Sargent on the stat board so far this season are Angelise Garcia with 86 points, 15 assists, 20 rebounds and 31 steals, Kandace Pargin with 60 points, 13 assists, 25 rebounds, and 24 steals, Kimmy Pargin with 35 points, 12 assists, and 13 steals, and Makenzie Consaul with 19 rebounds.
Del Norte
Del Norte enters 2025 with a 3-2 record. The Tigers lost their first game against Alamosa 34-30, but then got the win over Buena Vista 42-34, Fowler 35-23, and La Junta 26-20, and ended 2024 with a loss against Sanford 51-41. 2025 will start for Del Norte on the road against Ignacio on 1/9, and then they will go to Monte Vista on 1/11 and then will host Trinidad on 1/14.
Leading the Tigers from 2024 on the stat board are Emma Parra with 39 points, 4 assists, 11 rebounds and 12 steals, Hadley Leggett with 19 points and 18 rebounds, Baylie Laymon with 14 points, 3 assists, 15 rebounds, and 7 steals, and Reese Brown with 2 assists and 7 steals.
Byers
Byers currently sits with a 7-1 overall record. The Bulldogs lost their first game of the season against ECA 56-46, but then won their next seven games which were against Cheraw (39-20), Bennett (47-32), Lyons (56-27), DCA (53-29), Elbert (64-33), Kiowa (58-16), and Wiggins (42-37). Byers will be starting the second half of the season against Simla at home on 1/10, and then will travel on 1/14 to face Denver Christian.
Stat leaders for the Bulldogs so far this season are Abi Green with 70 points, 39 rebounds and 21 steals, Joclynn Rector with 68 points and 14 assists, Madilee Olsen with 67 points, 24 assists, 45 rebounds and 27 steals, and Averie Eymann with 26 assists, 31 rebounds, and 19 steals.
Dove Creek
Dove Creek ended 2024 with a 5-3 record. They started their season with two losses against Centauri (66-13) and Sargent (49-23) but then was able to get wins over Mancos (45-25), Hayden (42-34) and North Park (49-36). Their game against Rangely resulted in a loss 69-41, but Dove Creek was able to win their most recent two games against Monticello (46-19) and Nucla (54-31). The Bulldogs will start 2025 against Ignacio on 1/11 and then will travel to Mancos on 1/14.
Leading the stat board for Dove Creek so far this season are Ralynn Hickman with 122 points, 23 assists, 63 rebounds, and 37 steals, Taylor Hampton with 93 points, 9 assists, 73 rebounds, 19 steals, Hadley Hatfield with 41 points, 44 assists, and 30 steals, and Jessica Alexander with 24 rebounds.
Center
The Vikings are 7-2 after wrapping up 2024 and playing their first game of 2025. Center got wins over Centennial (66-13), Nucla (48-41), Calhan (46-37), Ignacio (44-35), SCA (37-22) Rye (46-19) and Rocky Ford (55-20). The two losses on the Vikings record are against a Non-Varsity Opponent 44-40, and Rangely 53-31. Center will start the busy time of the season against South Park on 1/11 in a league game.
At the top of the stat board for Center are Presley Wilson with 137 points, 21 assists, and 14 steals, Emiliana Valdez with 97 points and 52 rebounds, Dulce Palma with 43 points, 26 rebounds, and 13 steals, Alyciana Lujan with 15 assists, Bianey Rascon with 10 assists, Ximena Miranda with 24 rebounds and Anahlicia Villagomez with 11 steals.
Limon
Limon wraps up 2024 with a 2-2 record with wins over Belleview Christian (47-11) and Peyton (34-31), and losses to Simla (82-14) and Yuma (48-12). The Badgers will be kick off 2025 against Genoa-Hugo at home on 1/10, and then will be traveling to Calhan on 1/15.
Leading the stat board for Limon are Enyceia Frescas with 10 points, 3 assists, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals, Samara Humphrey with 8 points, Emma Coonts with 8 points, Sydney Richardson with 3 assists, Gianna Humphrey with 3 assists, 17 rebounds and 5 steals, Kinslee Reystead with 8 rebounds, Macie Witt with 5 steals.
Las Animas
Las Animas so far this season are 4-2 with wins over Dolores Huerta Prep (47-4), Arickaree (37-25), Elkhart (30-18) and SB (37-19), and losses against Syracuse (51-23) and Greeley County (40-26). The Trojans will be kicking off 2025 against Ellicott on 1/11 on the road and then they will travel to Rocky Ford on 1/14.
Stat leaders for Las Animas are Jadann Eck with 68 points, 5 assists, and 10 steals, Emma Netherton with 39 points and 51 rebounds, Analyce Wilson with 30 points, Ava Labarge with 21 assists, 25 rebounds, and 11 steals, Alexis Vigil with 5 assists and 7 steals, and Mayela Magana with 18 rebounds.
