Class 1A Boys Basketball Breakdown

Boys Basketball Class 1A Regional Projections Week 5

Boys Basketball Class 1A Regional Projections Week 5

For my projections I am using the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.  I am going to be predicting the League Champions.  Remember to qualify for Regionals you must be ranked inside the top 32 or win your League (If you have 5 or more teams). At the end I pick the 8 teams I think make it to state based on my current projections.

Class 1A

  • League Champions earn an automatic berth in the playoffs as long as they win their league outright.  Each league must have a minimum of 5 teams in it for an automatic berth.
  • Seeding Criteria for the 32-team state bracket-CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index published after the regular season.  Seeds 9-16 are true seeded except to try and avoid league matchups in the First Round Only.  Teams may be moved one spot up or down.  Seeds 17-32 may be moved up to two spots based upon geography & League matchups.
  • First Two Rounds of the state tournament (Regionals) will be hosted by the top seed in that quadrant of the bracket, over two days. (4-teams total).
  • Top 8 teams will advance through the bracket.  The bracket Will Not be reseeded before State.  Class 1A Great 8 will play a full consolation bracket.

League Champion Predictions

3A/2A/1A San Juan League: Ouray

Ouray is currently leading the league and picked up a big win over Nucla.  Nucla, Dove Creek, and Telluride will also be in the mix for the league title.

3A/2A/1A Mile High League: Flatirons Academy

Flatirons Academy is leading the league and considered a top team in Class 1A.  Bishop Machebeuf (2A), SkyView Academy (3A), and Heritage Christian (2A) are also considered top league contenders.

2A/1A Western Slope League: 2A Team Wins

Currently I have a 2A team winning the Western Slope League.  Plateau Valley is my pick to win the league.  De Beque and North Park are the two 1A teams who will be in the mix for the league title.

2A/1A West Central: Cotopaxi (Will not get an automatic berth)

Cotopaxi is the early favorite to win the West Central League.  They will be challenged by Custer County (2A) for the league title.

2A/1A Union Pacific League: 2A Team Wins

I currently have Byers winning the Union Pacific League.  Byers will be challenged by 1A Stratton and Limon for the league title.

1A YWKC League: Otis

This will be a battle for the league title.  Otis is my early pick to win the league.  Arickaree, Idalia, and Lone Star will all challenge for the league title.

1A Southern Peaks: Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande is my early pick to win the SPL.  Sierra Grande will be challenged by Sangre De Cristo and possibly Moffat as they emerge after break with a winning record.  Creede and Centennial have also traditionally been a threat.

1A North Central: Peetz

Peetz gets the early nod for the North Central.  Briggsdale and Prairie look to be the main threats for the league title early in the season.

2A/1A Lower Platte: 2A Team Wins

Haxtun is the pick to win the league which is a 2A team.  Caliche is the lone 1A team and I don’t think they can win the league title but I have been surprised before.

1A High Plains: McClave

McClave is considered the top team in Class 1A.  They are also my pick to win the league title.  Cheyenne Wells, Cheraw, and Granada will all threaten for the league title.

1A Fisher Peaks: Primero (Will not get an automatic berth)

Primero is my pick to win the league title.  La Veta will threaten for the league title as well.  League Champion will have to be in the top 32 of the Seeding Index.

1A Black Forrest: Evangelical Christian

ECA is my early pick to win the league title.  The Black Forrest should be very competitive with Hanover, Elbert, Miami-Yoder, and Pikes Peak Christian all in the mix.

1A Ark Valley: Kim/Branson

I am going with Kim/Branson as my league title pick.  Kim/Branson will be tested by Holly, Springfield, Walsh, and Wiley.

5280 League: Denver Waldorf

Going with Denver Waldorf early to win the 5280 league.  Denver Jewish Day and Front Range Baptist will also be in the mix.

First Four Out

Prairie (33), Flagler (34), Walsh (35), Lone Star (36)
