
Class 2A Boys Basketball Week 6 Report
We have around 30 days left of regular season play. Regionals will be March 7th with State the following weekend. We will look at the top 10 teams according to the MileHigh Prep Report Rankings plus we will look at another 6 teams ranked high in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Good Luck to all teams this weekend.

#1 Simla (7-2), Seeding Index #2
Simla keeps the #1 spot in the MHPR Rankings but fell to #2 in the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. Simla drop to #2 was due to their two-point loss to 3A Peyton and Crowley County defeating Peyton the next day. Simla kept the #1 spot due to their head-to-head win over Crowley County (12/13) but also wins over 3A #5 Yuma and #6 Byers. Simla did pick up win #7 on the season defeating Liberty Tree Academy (5-5) 74 to 31. Simla will play three games in five days. They open things up tonight against 1A Idalia (4-6), they face #10 Fowler (8-3) tomorrow, and then Limon (4-5) on Tuesday. Simla has 14 games remaining on their schedule.

#2 Crowley County (8-1), Seeding Index #1
Crowley County holds the #2 spot in the MHPR rankings and sits at #1 in the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. Crowley County was considered to move into the #1 spot after their 20-point win over Peyton last weekend but their head-to-head loss to Simla plus Simla wins over Byers & Yuma kept them at #2 this week. Crowley County will play 3 games in 5 days, and they will get their shot at a top 10-win next Tuesday. Crowley County will kick things off against Limon (4-5) tonight then will face 4A Village (6-8) on Saturday. The big matchup for Crowley County is Tuesday 1/28 when they face 4A #5 Lamar. This will be the one of the tougher games for Crowley County as their other top 10 win is over 3A #10 Monte Vista (7-2). Crowley County has 12 games remaining with the Santa Fe League Tournament to end the year.

#3 Plateau Valley (10-1), Seeding Index #7
Plateau Valley moves up one spot this week to #3 in the MHPR Rankings. Plateau Valley does fall to #7 in the CHSAA Seeding Index after being #5 last week. Plateau Valley picked up a pair of wins in the past week defeating Caprock Academy (5-7) and West Grand (2-12). Plateau Valley dropping in the Seeding Index is due to their lack of SOS (Strength of Schedule). Plateau Valley lone loss on the season is looking better and better as 4A Fort Lupton (9-4) is on the verge of being ranked. Plateau Valley does lack other top 10 wins besides their win over 1A #9 De Beque (9-5) but their win over 3A Roaring Fork (9-3) is a quality win. Plateau Valley has one game in the next 5 days and it’s a big one as they face Vail Mountain (7-4) and is a quality matchup. Plateau Valley has 10 games left on their schedule.

#4 Bishop Machebeuf (8-2), Seeding Index #5
Bishop Machebeuf makes a two spot jump this week as they move from #6 to #4 in the MHPR rankings. Bishop Machebeuf also jumped 3 spots in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Bishop Machebeuf had a busy week last week playing three games two of which were quality wins over 1A #2 Flatirons Academy (7-3) and 3A SkyView Academy (9-3). Bishop Machebeuf picked up win #8 this week defeating Clear Creek (3-8). No games on the schedule for Bishop Machebeuf this weekend but they do have a pair of games next week against Front Range Christian (3-7) and Dayspring Christian (4-7). Bishop Machebeuf remaining schedule has a few key games remaining with the possibly league title match up on 2/6. Bishop Machebeuf will have 10 games remaining on their schedule, with the possibility of a tournament.

#5 Sanford (9-4), Seeding Index #6
Sanford fell two spots this week in the MHPR rankings after their defeat to 3A Buena Vista but also quality wins by Bishop Machebeuf. Sanford remained the same in the CHSAA Seeding Index at #6. Sanford as mentioned fell to Buena Vista last week 61 to 39 and the point spread was a key reason for their drop to #5. Sanford did bounce back later in the week blasting #10 Fowler 58 to 25. Sanford will play one game this weekend against South Park (1-9) tonight. Sanford has played a tough schedule so far and at least 4 if not 5 quality games remain. February will see Sanford schedule get much tougher. Sanford has just 7 games remaining on their schedule with the possibility of a tournament.

#6 Byers (9-2), Seeding Index #3
Byers held the #6 spot in the MHPR Rankings and remained at #3 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Byers had two games last week picking up a quality win over 3A Denver Christian (50-49) and defeating Genoa-Hugo. Byers will play a pair of games this weekend against Flagler (3-5) and Calhan (3-4). Both are must win games for Byers especially with their remaining schedule coming up. Byers will have one of the tougher remaining schedules and a crossover tournament with the Lower Platte League to end the year will give Byers a look at their hopes for the state tournament. Byers will have 9 scheduled games remaining plus 3 tournament games to end the season.

#7 Loveland Classical (10-1), Seeding Index #4
Loveland Classical held onto the #7 spot this week in the MHPR rankings plus the #4 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Loveland Classical played 4 games in the past 7 days most were blowout, but they were tested by 1A Front Range Baptist (41 to 36) which was a quality win. Loveland Classical also defeated Poudre Community, Ascent Classical, and William Smith. Loveland Classical remaining schedule is not the toughest schedule but at least three quality matchups left. Loveland Classical does not have any games this weekend but will play a pair of games early next week against Aurora West Prep (1-10) and Nederland (1-11). Loveland Classical has 8 games remaining on their schedule with the possibly of a tournament to end the season.

#8 Sedgwick County (7-2), Seeding Index #11
Sedgwick County moved up one spot in the rankings this week from #9 to #8 in the MHPR rankings and moved up one spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index to #11. Sedgwick County played two games last week defeating 1A Stratton (74 to 64) and 1A Caliche (55 to 41). Sedgwick County did add to their quality win list which is short with their win over Stratton. Sedgwick County will see their schedule get much tougher as we move into February. Sedgwick County has no games this weekend but will face Garden County NE (7-4) on 1/28. Sedgwick County will have 9 games remaining plus their crossover tournament with the Union Pacific League.

#9 Holyoke (8-4), Seeding Index #15
Holyoke moved into the rankings for the first time this season. Holyoke also jumped up three spots in the CHSAA Seeding Index from #18 to #15. Holyoke moved into the rankings replacing Haxtun who they defeated last week 60 to 56. Holyoke also defeated Caliche 48 to 37 but did lose to 1A #5 Cheyenne Wells 45 to 39. Holyoke has just one game this weekend and it’s tonight against Akron (6-6) and this is a huge game for both teams. Holyoke will also play on 1/28 against Perkins County (10-3). Holyoke will get tested down the stretch. Holyoke has 8 games remaining plus their crossover tournament with the Union Pacific League.

#10 Fowler (8-3), Seeding Index #8
Fowler holds onto the #10 spot this week in the MHPR rankings and drop one spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Fowler played two games last week making the trip into the San Luis Valley and going 1-1. Fowler was defeated by Sanford for the second time 58 to 25 but Fowler did bounce back picking up a quality win over Center 42 to 32. Fowler remaining schedule will be a true test, and they kick things off with a game tonight against Hoehne (4-6) and wrap the weekend up against #1 Simla (7-2). Fowler has 10 games remaining plus the Santa Fe League Tournament to end the season.

Heritage Christian (7-3), Seeding Index #9
Heritage Christian remained just outside the rankings this week but could possibly move back in next week. Heritage Christian stayed at #9 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Heritage Christian has played two games since our last update, and they defeated 1A #2 Flatirons Academy 68 to 53 and Gilpin County. Heritage Christian will play one game this week and that is tonight against Clear Creek (3-8). Heritage Christian will also face Union Colony Prep (7-5) on Tuesday. Heritage Christian will be tested in their remaining schedule. Heritage Christian has 10 games remaining plus the possibility of a tournament.

Golden View Classical (9-3), Seeding Index #10
Golden View Classical sits at #10 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. They are just outside the rankings in the MHPR rankings. Golden View Classical played a pair of games since our last update defeating William Smith (82-50) and Two Roads Charter (65-22). Golden View Classical has not played the toughest schedule and a big reason why they are not ranked. Two of their three loses are to unranked 3A teams in Lyons (6-4) and Addenbrooke Classical (5-7) and the ranked team was 3A Windsor Charter. Golden View Classical will have at least four quality games remaining in their final 9 games. Golden View Classical will have a tournament to end the year.

Swallows Charter (8-4), Seeding Index #12
Swallows Charter is one of the bigger surprises of the season so far. They sit at 8-4 overall and made a huge jump this week from #25 to #12 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. First year head coach Caden Parker has his team playing good basketball and have a shot at keeping a top 20 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Swallows Charter has won 5 games in a row including quality wins over Las Animas and Hanover. Swallows Charter will play two games this weekend against Manzanola (2-7) and Walsenburg (2-8). Swallows Charter may not have the toughest remaining schedule with just three quality opponents left but Swallows Charter is well on their way of having their best season since 2018 when they went 10-10.

Dove Creek (7-5), Seeding Index #20
Dove Creek is another team who made a significant jump in the CHSAA Seeding Index going from #28 to #20 this week. Dove Creek slide in the Seeding Index was due to a four-game losing streak in late December losing quality games to Nucla, Ignacio, and Monticello UT. Dove Creek has bounce back winning three straight games and taking over as the favorite to win the San Juan League. Dove Creek since our last report picked up key wins over Ridgway (46-42) and Monticello UT (60-56). Dove Creek has one game this weekend against Dolores (4-8) on Saturday and then they face Nucla (10-3) on Tuesday which could help determine the League Champion. Dove Creek has 11 games remaining on their schedule.

Center (9-4), Seeding Index #18
Center keeps moving up the CHSAA Seeding Index and jumped up four spots from #22 to #18 this week. Center has played three games since our last report, and they went 2-1 in those three games. Center lost to Fowler for the second time this season but improved on the score differential. Center defeated Trinidad (44-31) and yesterday picked up a huge win over Sargent (46-42). Center should finish no worse than 4th in League. Center will have a pair of huge games this weekend facing Crested Butte (4-3) tonight and Hoehne (4-6) on Saturday. Center has just 7 games remaining with all 7 being quality opponents plus the possibility of a tournament. Center may have one of the tougher schedules to end the season.

Limon (4-5), Seeding Index #17
Don’t look now but Limon is starting to click and figure things out. Limon jumped from #24 to #17 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and pushed 1A #1 McClave last night losing 60 to 49. Limon is 4-5 on the season with all 5 of their losses coming to quality opponents in: #1 Simla, Peyton, 3A #5 Yuma, 3A Denver Christina, and 1a #1 McClave. Limon played 4 games since our last report going 2-2. Limon defeated Calhan & Flagler and lost to 3A Denver Christian and 1A #1 McClave. Limon will keep the tough games coming to end the year. Limon this weekend will face #2 Crowley County (8-1) tonight and Merino (2-7) on Saturday. Limon also will face #1 Simla (7-2) on Tuesday. The Merino game is a must win for Limon especially with their remaining schedule. Limon has 11 games remaining plus the UPL/LPAA Tournament. Of the 11 games remaining, Limon will face 8 quality opponents and will also have one of the toughest schedules to end the season.
