3A Wrestling Week 7 Recap and Week 8 Preview
Wrestling is now only one week away from regional tournaments and two weeks away from the opening rounds of the state championships. This weekend you will see a blend of some teams continuing to stay the course and ramp up competition hoping to continue the course towards the end and you will see others use this weekend to back off the gas slightly whether it be to get healthy or to perfect technique, most of this comes down to the coach’s particular strategy or opinion on what is best. I suspect that these decisions should be considered for every single wrestler as some do still need mat time in competition but others may need a weekend to heal that ailing injury or to kick that stubborn bug.

Week 8 Preview
Where will 3A teams be competing this week? These are all according to what I could find on TrackWrestling, I suspect it may not be 100% accurate with teams still trying to decide what to do. There are some teams headed to smaller tournaments as well.

Week 7 Recap
This week for the recap I decided to go a different route and wanted to take another look into the developing 3A team races as we inch closer to the state championships. We will look at the current rankings and compare them to week 1 and see what has changed and I’ll discuss what I will be looking for from each team that can help them jump to the top.
- Mullen – 5 wrestlers all ranked in the top three with one of them being the number one. One other wrestler ranked within position to potentially grab a medal and produce team points for the team. Been ranked number 1 all year as a team but its closer now than it was, may need some guys to make the finals and not battle up the backside to further the lead.
- Alamosa – Ranked 9th to begin the year have been on the rise thanks to two top ranked wrestlers but also the depth they have with another 3 wrestlers poised to be battling for medal positions as well as another wrestler or two that will be trying to get into that position or contribute to the team.
- Brush – Ranked 3rd to start the year and now just narrowly down one spot but it will be close. They also have two number one ranked guys but two others in the top three. They will be looking to get some others from the cusp of placing onto the podium to help.
- Valley – Pre rankings had them at 8. Now back into the top 5 conversation. They have one wrestler currently at number one and one other in the top 3. They will have to rely on some of their depth to make a push, they have quite a few guys right around that mark pushing for medal position, it will depend on how many of those guys can battle to those spots.
- Eaton – Currently have two guys ranked at the 1 spot. They have a few others that are currently just outside of the top 3 and a couple other guys they will be looking to get production out of to be able to move up.
- Centauri – currently have one ranked at the top with two others inside the top 3. To make a push up into the top 5 they will need some others to step up and fight for medals and some others to qualify and steal a few points here and there.
- Resurrection Christian – currently have two wrestlers sitting at the top ranked position. Where they will need the production is from whoever else they can qualify to fight and win a few matches to boost the production totals for their team.
- Fort Lupton – currently only one ranked wrestler in the top three, where they are looking to score points is on the backside with depth, trying to get multiple guys up onto the podium.
- Gunnison – currently have two wrestlers ranked in the top 3 they will need them to at least place there or higher along with getting a couple other guys not only on the podium but fairly high up for them to move up any or even stay inside the top ten.
- Fort Morgan – currently have two wrestlers inside the top 3 rankings but will need points from a few of there other guys currently ranked right on the cusp of medal position and even just out of it.
Good luck to all teams, stay healthy! Next week we will dive into some of the regional breakdowns and what could happen there that could affect some of these team races.
