
Class 2A Boys Basketball Week Seven Report
We one month left of regular season play. Regionals will be March 7th with State the following weekend. We will look at the top 10 teams according to the MileHigh Prep Report Rankings plus we will look at another 6 teams ranked high in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Good Luck to all teams this weekend.

#1 Simla (10-2), Seeding Index #1
Simla continues to be the #1 team in the MHPR rankings, and this week move back to #1 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Simla had three games last week defeating Idalia (80-39), Fowler (52-45), and Limon (59-44). Simla continues to build their resume as Fowler and Limon were quality wins. Simla has been led by Tatum Kocerha (21.8 ppg), Caston Cox (15.0 ppg), and Trevan Kocerha (10.4 ppg). Simla has one game this weekend against Merino (3-9) and then play a Tuesday game against Kiowa (5-7). Simla has 10 games remaining on their schedule with plenty of big games left.

#2 Crowley County (10-2), Seeding Index #2
Crowley County holds the #2 spot in the MHPR rankings and dropped to #2 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Crowley County had three games last week all three games were quality opponents. Crowley County defeated Limon (55-42) and 4A Village (77-46). Crowley County then fell in a barn burner to 4A #5 Lamar 46 to 44. This was a good showing against a top team. Crowley County is led by Gunner Hughes (25.0 ppg), Anthoni Walter (21.0 ppg), and Majestic McNeil (7.5 ppg). Crowley County will play just one game this weekend against 1A South Baca (4-6). Crowley County will have back-to-back games on Monday and Tuesday. Crowley County will face Swallows Charter (10-4) on Monday and Swink (3-9) on Tuesday. Crowley County has 9 games remaining and they will play a Santa Fe Tournament to end the season on 2/28 thru 3/1.

#3 Plateau Valley (11-1), Seeding Index #6
Plateau Valley held the #3 spot this week in the MHPR rankings and moved up one spot in the CHSAA Seeding index. Plateau Valley played just one game last week and they were tested by Vail Mountain but won 42 to 35. This was another quality win for the Cowboys. Plateau Valley will again have just one game this weekend against Rangely (5-10). Plateau Valley has been led by Jack Vig (17.0 ppg), Colter Ralston (11.0 ppg), and Jackson Bevan (10.0 ppg). Plateau Valley has 9 games remaining on their schedule with at least 4 quality opponents left.

#4 Bishop Machebeuf (10-2), Seeding Index #4
Bishop Machebeuf holds the #4 spot for back-to-back week in the MHPR rankings plus move up one spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Bishop Machebeuf played a pair of games since our last report defeating Front Range Christian (94-36) and Dayspring Christin (79-36). Dayspring Christian adds to Bishop Machebeuf SOS. Bishop Machebeuf will have just one game from now thru next Thursday. They will face Denver Academy (6-7) on Tuesday. Bishop Machebeuf is led by Jack Menke (18.0 ppg), John Menke (15.0 ppg), and Miles Edgar-Parchman (10.0 ppg). Bishop Machebeuf had 8 games remaining with the possibility of an end of season tournament.

#5 Sanford (10-4), Seeding Index #7
Sanford holds the #5 spot in the MHPR rankings this week and dropped to #7 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Sanford played just one game last week defeating South Park 65 to 17. Sanford does have a limited schedule left but plenty of big games remaining. This weekend Sanford will face Trinidad (4-7) and Sargent (4-7). Sanford does not have any stat updated at this time, but they are led by Ben Sittler and Trason Gartrell. Sanford has 6 games remaining on their schedule plus the 1A & 2A SPL plus Custer & South Park will be coming together for a tournament at the end of the year.

Byers held the #6 spot in the MHPR Rankings and remained at #3 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Byers played three games this past week defeating Fowler (78-39), Calhan (77-59), and a quality win over 1A Arickaree (59-46). Byers this weekend has just 1 game against league rival Burlington (3-6) who is playing much better basketball and now considered a quality opponent. Byers is led by Quincy Eacret (13.6 ppg), James Maes (10.4 ppg) and Cameron Eastwood (8.7 ppg). Byers has just 6 games remaining and 5 of those 6 games are against quality opponents. Byers will also play in the UPL/LPAA Tournament to end the season.

Loveland Classical held onto the #7 spot this week in the MHPR rankings and dropped one spot to #5 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Loveland Classical played a pair of games this past week defeating Aurora West Prep (75-41) and Nederland (64-19). Neither game was a quality win. Loveland Classical has just one game thru the next 7 days and that is against 3A STEM Highlands (10-4). Loveland Classical is led by Trevan Coberly (15.5 ppg), Jackson Jensen (12.8 ppg), and Hudson Ruppert (11.2 ppg). Loveland Classical has 7 games remaining with a few quality games remaining. #8 Sedgwick County (8-3), Seeding Index #10
Sedgwick County held the #8 spot in the MHPR Rankings and moved up one spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index to #10. Sedgwick County played two games this past week against out of state opponents. Sedgwick County defeated Garden County NE (9-6) 59 to 36 and lost to Perkins County NE (13-4) 59 to 49. Sedgwick County has ben led by Tate Renquist (17.0 ppg), Joshua Palic (12.7 ppg), and Jace Ehmke (9.3 ppg). #9 Heritage Christian (9-4), Seeding Index #9
Heritage Christian moved back into the top 10 this week after dropping out for a few weeks. Heritage Christian did stay the same in the CHSAA Seeding Index at #9. Heritage Christian has played two games since last week defeating Union Colony Prep 78 to 49 and falling to 3A #1 Resurrection Christian 81 to 36. Heritage Christian has been led by Alex Lundy (20.2 ppg), Levi Hermsen (19.3 ppg), and David Kubie (11.7 ppg). Heritage Christian has 7 games remaining on their with at least 4 quality opponents left. Heritage Christian could also take place in a tournament to end the season.

Fowler played two games this past week defeating Hoehne 61 to 52 and falling to Simla 52 to 45. The Simla game was a big improvement from earlier in the season. Fowler has just one game this weekend against Walsenburg (2-12). Fowler has been led by Isaiah Montoya (16.2 ppg), Cael True (8.5 ppg), and Hagen McCuistion (7.7 ppg). Swallows Charter comes in just outside the top 10 in the MHPR rankings and dropped one spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index from #13 to #14. Swallows Charter played two games this past week defeating Manzanola 85 to 29 and Walsenburg 70 to 12. Swallows Charter has just one game this weekend against South Park (2-11) and then the Spartans will face #2 Crowley County on Monday 2/3. Swallows Charter is led by Andrew Breedlove (12.1 ppg), Charles Perry (10.9 ppg), and Christian Garcia (10.9 ppg). Swallows Charter has just 7 games remaining on their schedule plus the Santa Fe Tournament to end the year.

Akron was just outside the MHPR rankings this week and held the #12 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Akron had just one game the past week and it was a big upset victory over then ranked #8 Holyoke 65 to 49 in 2OT. Akron will play just one game this week against #8 Sedgwick County (8-3). Akron has been led by Caleb Poss (16.3 ppg), Anderson Filla (10.5 ppg), and Kolten Randel (9.5 ppg). Akron has just 6 games remaining plus the UPL/LPAA Tournament. Akron has a tough schedule to end the year.

Dove Creek made a big jump in the rankings this week from #17 to #13 this week. Dove Creek had a solid week this past week picking up a win over Dolores 55 to 46 and then a huge key win & league win over Nucla 60 to 43. Dove Creek is in the driver’s seat to win the 2A/1A San Juan League. Dove Creek will have one game this weekend against 3A Telluride (6-7). Dove Creek is led by Liam Hassel (14.5 ppg), Sheldon Gardner (9.7 ppg), and Josh Kibel (8.8 ppg). Dove Creek has 8 games remaining

Golden View Classical (12-3), Seeding Index #8
Golden View Classical comes into the weekend seeded #8 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and just outside of the top 10 in the MHPR rankings. Golden View Classical played a pair of games in the last seven days defeating STEM Highlands (72-25), Addenbrooke Classical (70-34), and Dawson School (46-30). Golden View Classical has no games this weekend and will play a game on Monday against Poudre Community (4-8) and then Wednesday against Twin Peaks Classical (8-6). Golden View Classical is led by Luke Chronowski (14.8 ppg), Jacob Walker (12.9 ppg), and George Hermanson (8.4 ppg). We wrap things up with the Center Vikings. Center dropped two spots in the CHSAA Seeding Index from #16 to #18. Center played two games in the last 7 days defeating league rival Crested Butte 51 to 49 and falling to Hoehne 53 to 37. Center did play 3 games in 3 days as they also played a game Thursday defeating Sargent. Center will have just one game this weekend and it’s a big one against Custer County (5-5) on Saturday. Center has just 5 games remaining plus will play in the 1A & 2A SPL Tournament to end the season. The remaining 5 games for Center are all key games.
