
Class 3A Girls Basketball Weekly Report

As we are getting near the end of the regular season, league play is in full swing for most teams and the battle for top positions continues. This week we look at the top 16 teams in the CHSAA Seeding Index and see where they sit in their league, their records, the outcome of recent games, and who the teams will face in the next few days.

Denver Christian
The Thunder are presently sitting at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index for 3A with a 15-1 overall record, a 3-0 league record, and are 2nd in the Metro League. In league play, Dener Christian got wins over St. Mary’s Academy (45-20), Kent Denver (47-39), and Eagle Ridge Academy (65-24) in their most recent game. Last week, the thunder also got a win over DCA 61-29.League play will continue this week for the Thunder as they will take on 5-11 Stargate School (8th in league) tonight at home and then will host 10-3 Jefferson Academy (5th in league) on 2/4 at home .
Centauri
The Falcons are currently leading the Intermountain league and are 2nd in the CHSAA Seeding Index. After getting two league wins this last week of play over Monte Vista (52-31) and Alamosa (43-35), Centauri is 13-2 overall and 5-0 in league play. Centauri will be looking to continue their dominance this week as they will travel to face 10-2 Pagosa Springs who sits 2nd in the league and will be looking to take the league title from Centauri.
Strasburg
The Indians are currently on a 10-game win streak after beating Resurrection Christian in overtime 67-63 and defeating Brush 71-50. Strasburg is currently 10-2 overall on the season, 5-0 in league play and 1st in the patriot league. The team will be playing another league game tonight at home against 6-7 Liberty Common who is 9th in the league, and then Strasburg will travel to Skyview in a non-league game to take on the 12-4 Wolverines. Games next week will kick off for Strasburg on 2/4 against league opponent Platte Canyon who is 4-11 overall and 7th in league.
Resurrection Christian
Resurrection Christian took their first loss this last week, giving them an overall record of 13-1 on the season, a 4-1 league record, and places them currently in 3rd in the Patriot League. The Cougars fell to Strasburg last week 63-67 in overtime but was able to bounce back and get the win over Windsor Charter Academy 72-19. On 2/1 Resurrection Christian will take on 6-9 Forge Christian at home and then will kick off next week’s games at Brush to take on the 10-4 Beetdiggers who are 5th in the league.
Cedaredge
Cedaredge remains perfect on the season so far with a 13-0 overall record, an 8-0 league record and they are 1st in the Western Slope League. The most recent wins for the Bruins came against Grand Valley 54-23 and Aspen 55-9. Cedaredge will be looking to keep their perfect season alive this weekend as the Bruins will be taking on their league opponent in the 3-11 Olathe Pirates tonight who are 6th in the league, and then will host the 9-5 Gunnison Cowboys, who are 2nd in the league, on 2/1.
Salida
The Salida Spartans are currently 10-3 on the season, 3-2 in league play and are 6th in the Tri-Peaks League. Last week, Salida fell to CS Christian in a close battle of 41-43 but was able to recover and win their next two games over Summit 48-36 and Ellicott 43-23. Next weeks’ games will kick off for the Spartans on 2/5 against league opponent 2-9 Banning Lewis Academy who is 11th in the league, they will then host 5-7 Rye who is 9th in the league.
Wiggins
Wiggins sits 7th in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 9-6 overall record, a 3-2 league record and are 4th in the Patriot League. Wiggins was able to get wins over Brush (48-36) and Liberty Common (59-23) last week, with the game against Brush being a league win. With only a few games left on their schedule for the regular season, Wiggins will face Platte Valley tonight in a road league game, where Platte Valley is 10-4 on the season and 7th in the league. Next week, Wiggins will take on the 8-5 Highland Huskies in another road game on 2/4.
Colorado Springs Christian
CS Christian is currently 3rd in the Tri-Peaks league with a 5-0 league record and a 9-3 overall record. The Lions got the win over Pueblo County last week 61-27 but fell on the road when they traveled to TCA in a close game of 36-39. The Lions will continue league play during this week of play and will be looking to move their way up that rankings and keep their perfect league record. They will face St. Mary’s on 2/1, who is 9-3 on the season and are currently 1st in the league with a 6-0 league record, they will then face Florence at home on 2/4 who is 5-7 overall and 10th in the league. CS Christian will then go to Manitou Springs to take on the 7-6 Mustangs, who are currently 4th in the league.
Manual
The Thunderbolts hit the number 9 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 10-2 overall record, a 5-1 league record, and are 3rd in the City League. Manual fell to DSST: Cedar last week in an close league battle of 31-32, but the team was able to come back a few days later and get a league win over Kennedy in another close game of 31-30. Manual will be looking to continue their league success this week as they will be taking on DSST: College View, who are 6-6 overall and 8th in the league, and then will see DSST: Green Valley Ranch on 2/4 who are 1-12 overall and 13th in the league.
Roaring Fork
Roaring Fork has a 13-1 overall record, a 5-1 league record, are 3rd in the Western Slope League and round out the top 10 of the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Rams are on a three game winning streak after beating their league opponents Olathe (71-19), Aspen (61-23) and Meeker (72-44). Roaring Fork will have a rematch tonight where they will defend their win over Aspen at home who is currently 2-9 overall and7th in the league. The Rams will then play North Fork on 2/1 who is 7-6 overall and 5th in the league. Next weeks’ games will kick off for Roaring Fork against non-league opponent Coal Ridge on 2/4 who is 6-7 on the season.
Ellicott
Ellicott sits at number 11 in the CHSAA Seeding index with a 9-4 overall record, a 2-3 league record and are 8th in the Tri-Peaks league. Last week had some challenging games for Ellicott as they fell to Salida 23-43 and St. Mary’s 37-44. The Thunderhawks will be looking to Break their losing streak and add more wins to their record this week. They will play 2-5 James Irwin on 2/1 and then will switch back into league games on 2/3 and play the 5-7 Rye Thunderbolts who are 9th in the league.
Thomas MacLaren School
The Highlanders are holding onto the 1st place spot in the Black Forest League currently and are 13-2 overall, 3-0 in league and 12th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Thomas MacLaren is on an 11 game winning streak after getting wins last week over Palmer 48-33 and TCSS 64-10. The Thunderhawks will be playing in the Clahan Tournament this weekend and will be looking to get as many wins as possible to work their way up the seeing index.
Brush
The Beetdiggers are 10-4 overall on this season, 3-2 in league play and are 5th in the Patriot league. Brush took a couple of losses in the last week of play and fell to Wiggins 36-48 and Strasburg 50-71. Brush will be looking to get victories in this week of play to break the losing streak they currently have. The Beetdiggers will be facing league opponents Windsor Charter Academy on 1/31, who are 8-6 overall and 10th in the league, and then they will host Resurrection Christian on 2/4 who are 13-1 on the season and 3rd in the league.
Highland
Highland got wins in the last week of play and was able to beat Yuma in a close game of 60-59, and Frontier Academy 57-20. The Huskies are currently 8-5 overall on the season, 4-0 in league play and are 2nd in the Patriot League. This week, Highland will be looking to extend their current 4 game win streak and will see Wray in Wray on 2/1 who is 2-12 overall and 8th in the league and then will host Wiggins on 2/4 who are 9-6 overall and 4th in the league.
Monte Vista
Sitting 4th in the Intermountain League and 15th in the CHSAA Seeding index, the Pirates are currently 7-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. In their last week of play, Monte Vista was able to get the win over Bayfield 42-8, fell to league opponent Centauri 31-52, but for the win in a close battle with Sargent 32-31. The Pirates will be looking to keep their momentum into this next week of play and will face league opponent Montezuma-Cortez tonight who is 3-9 overall and are 6th in the league, they will then host Ignacio on 2/1, who are 5-8 overall and 5th in league, and then will play Alamosa on the road on 2.4 who are 9-5 overall and 3rd in the league.
St. Mary’s
Sitting 16th in the CHSAA Seeding Index, St. Mary’s is 9-3 overall, is 6-0 in league and are 1st in the Tri-Peaks League. The Pirates were able to get wins last week over Buena Vista 37-31, La Junta 44-24, and Ellicott 44-37. St. Mary’s will be looking to keep their success going as they will take on CS Christian who is 9-3 on the season and 3rd in the league, Eagle Ridge on 2/3 who is 5-9 overall, and then will play Florence on who is 5-7 and 10th in the league on 2/5.
