CLASS 1A GIRLS BASKETBALL REPORT
BY: KERRY SHERMAN
With the top 8 teams in the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index set to host regional pods, the race for the final two spots seems to be between seven teams. The teams seeded 7-13 are within 0.08 of a point in Thursday morning’s release of the Index. Here is a brief look at those squads.

#7 EVANGEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY LADY EAGLES
If the season ended today, the Lady Eagles would host a regional in three weeks, but there are still several impactful games to be played. With wins in six straight, and seven of the last eight, ECA hosts 2A #9 Simla on Thursday. They follow that with a trip to #39 Miami-Yoder on Friday. Next week
#8 HI-PLAINS LADY PATRIOTS
If Hi-Plains can maintain its position in the Index, the YWKC would match the High Plains and North Central with two hosting teams. None of their last four regular season opponents are ranked higher than 37th. The Lady Patriots begin their closing stretch at #42 Deer Trail on Thursday, and continue at Miami-Yoder on Saturday.
#9 SPRINGFIELD LADY LONGHORNS
Currently the first team out of a hosting position, Springfield saw its eight-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday by Stanton County (KS). They won’t play again this week, with their next action coming on Wednesday against #17 Cheraw.
#10 DE BEQUE LADY DRAGONS
After having their own five-game winning streak broken in a three-point loss to 2A #14 West Grand, the Lady Dragons carry a three-game winning run into Friday’s Western Slope contest at 2A #4 Rangely. They follow that against 2A #24 Hayden at home on Saturday. Next Wednesday, it’s 2A #19 Plateau Valley, also at home.
#11 NUCLA LADY MUSTANGS
Since dropping a 43-42 contest to De Beque on Jan. 23rd, the Lady Mustangs have reeled off six straight wins. Only two have been decided by fewer than 20 points. Nucla has to wait until next Wednesday to put that streak on the line at 2A #49 Dolores. Later next week, the Lady Mustangs will also hit the road to Plateau Valley.
#12 CHEYENNE WELLS LADY TIGERS
Cheyenne Wells has quite a bit of ground to make up to gain a hosting position, but with a remaining schedule that includes games against two of the top three in the 1A Index, there is plenty of opportunity for the Lady Tigers to do so. The first step happens on Friday, with #3 Eads visiting in High Plains action. Saturday has them at 2A #27 Swink.
#13 PRAIRIE LADY MUSTANGS
Like Cheyenne Wells, the Lady Mustangs find themselves in a spot of needing to make up a lot of ground in the Index. However, Prairie doesn’t have the same number of higher seeded teams left on the slate. That is until the crossover tournament with the YWKC in two weeks. Prairie is off until next Tuesday, when the Lady Mustangs close out NCL play at #31 Weldon Valley. The rest of next week has Prairie hosting #31 Denver Jewish day on Thursday.
