
CLASS 2A BOYS BASKETBALL REPORT

There’s a heated race for the final few spots in the regional bracket, with the bubble moving on a daily, almost hourly basis. Burlington owns the 32nd spot as of Wednesday afternoon, but the Cougars’ hold on the spot is tenuous. Here’s our look at the teams sitting 27th through 37th in the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

#27 VAIL CHRISTIAN SAINTS
The Saints dropped a non-league contest at home to Buena Vista on Tuesday, which was the second defeat in the last three games. They also went to #15 Custer County on Wednesday. Vail Christian wraps up the week by hosting 1A #34 North Park in Western Slope play. The Saints sit fourth in the league entering the weekend.
#28 RIDGWAY DEMONS
The Demons are one game behind #14 Dove Creek in the San Juan Basin, and 2.5 games clear of third place Nucla. A 51-48 win over Nucla was the fifth in the last six for Ridgway, with three of them being by three points or less. The Demons host 1A #33 Ouray on Thursday. Ridgway goes to #55 Mancos on Saturday.
#29 FRONT RANGE CHRISTIAN FALCONS
Front Range Christian had its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, falling to 3A #51 Clear Creek 53-38. The Falcons were outscored 34-22 in the second half. They only have three games left in the Mile High League, with two against top-five teams in the conference. The first of those is on Saturday at #9 Heritage Christian, who is third in the standings. The Falcons also host #58 Gilpin County next Tuesday.
#30 UNION COLONY PREP TIMBERWOLVES
A loss to Front Range Christian last Thursday was the fifth in six outings for the Timberwolves. They’re back in league play this weekend with games at 3A #36 Estes Park on Thursday and #2 Bishop Machebeuf on Friday. Next Tuesday, UCP hosts 3A #12 Lyons. The last two of those are against teams sitting first and fourth in the Mile High.
#31 TWO ROADS CHARTER FALCONS
The Falcons had a four-game winning streak snapped last Wednesday by 3A #31 Addenbroke Classical, 54-49. They dropped a second straight on Monday, falling to #6 Loveland Classical by 13 points. Freshman Weston Berhow had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was his fourth of the season. TRCA hosts 3A #55 Aurora West College Prep on Wednesday. The Falcons also have home games next Tuesday and Wednesday against Denver Academy of Torah and #56 Nederland.
#32 BURLINGTON COUGARS
After opening the season 0-6, the Cougars are 5-3 in their last eight. They had Tuesday’s game against 1A #20 moved to Friday because of weather and road conditions. That’s part of three games in as many days, as they travel to 1A #9 Stratton on Thursday for a game inside the Union Pacific, and also host #10 Sedgwick County on Saturday in non-league action.
#33 DEL NORTE TIGERS
Del Norte has won two straight and three of four entering Friday’s Southern Peaks contest against #7 Sanford. The Tigers can grab sole possession of first in the league with a win, thanks to a win over #25 Center last Friday. Center plays Sanford on Thursday. The Tigers wrap up the regular season at #54 South Park on Saturday, and against #22 Hoehne next Tuesday.
#34 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN ACADEMY EAGLES
Dayspring Christian had to work overtime on Tuesday to earn a 54-48 win over 3A #32 Dawson School. It was the second straight win for the Eagles, who also beat Gilpin County last Friday. Overall, they are just 3-4 in their last seven. DCA will host Clear Creek on Thursday.
#35 CALHAN BULLDOGS
Tied entering the fourth, Calhan edged #41 Liberty Tree Academy on Tuesday, 54-51. The Bulldogs have won five straight and share the lead in the Black Forest with #3 Simla. They don’t meet until the 28th. The Bulldogs visit 3A #33 Fountain Valley on Thursday and will host #3 Crowley County on Saturday. They also host #52 The Colorado Springs School next Tuesday. Patrick Glaser leads the classification in scoring at just over 23 points a game.
#36 LAS ANIMAS TROJANS
The Trojans have had their postseason chances take a major hit with a three-game losing streak. The latest came on Tuesday to 1A #11 Granada. They’ve been outscored by 84 points. Las Animas host Santa Fe co-leader Fowler on Friday.
#37 CAPROCK ACADEMY EAGLES
A loss to 1A #`12 De Beque on Tuesday in Western Slope play was the sixth in eight games for the Eagles, who have only one two or more games in a row twice this season. Caprock Academy hosts #4 Plateau Valley on Friday and will visit Green River (UT) on Saturday.
