
Class 2A Boys Basketball Weekly Report

With the end of the regular season rolling in, teams are all fighting to stay within the top 32 teams of the CHSAA Seeding Index. This week we take a look at the top 10 teams who are safe and will be looking to finish strong in the top side of the seeding index and the bottom teams who are on the bubble of the playoffs and will need to get wins and/or will need other teams to slip so they can take their spot and make it to postseason play.

1. Simla
The Simla Cubs are sitting at the top of the CHSAA Seeding Index at number 1 with a 15-2 overall record, a 3-0 league record and are 2nd in the Black Forrest League. The Cubs are on a 9-game winning streak after winning their three games this last week over ECA 70-42, McClave 68-52, and Elbert 59-48. Simla still has a handful of games to end the regular season, where Simla will be looking to stay on top and win out so they keep the number 1 spot. These games will be against Burlington on 2/21, Holyoke on 2/22, Hoehne on 2/24, Salida on 2/26, and Calhan on 2/28.
2. Crowley County
Crowley County was able to get two wins last week, beating Walsenburg 100-22 and Calhan 77-41. This gives the Charges a 16-2 overall record, a 6-0 league record, and they are 1st in the Santa Fe League. The Chargers will be looking to end their season with wins and will be trying to do so as they will take on Thomas MacLaren on 2/21, Fowler on 2/22, Rye on 2/25, and then will face a couple of other opponents that are TBA on 2/28 and 3/1.
3. Bishop Machebeuf
The Buffaloes are currently 15-3 overall on the season, 12-0 in league play and are holding the 1st place spot in the Mile High League. Bishop Machebeuf was able to beat Belleview 72-29 and Union Colony 80-44, lost to Stargate School 79-82 in overtime, but was able to bounce back and get the win over Platte Canyon 80-31. With only a single game left for the team in the regular season, they will be looking for the win over Estes Park on 2/21 to maintain their position in the CHSAA Seeding Index.
4. Loveland Classical
The Lions sit in the number 4 position of the CHSAA Seeding Index with an 18-2 overall record, a 9-1 league record, and are currently 2nd on the Foothills league. Loveland classical was able to get a couple of wins last week over Lotus School 59-56 and Denver Jewish Day 56-44 but fell to Golden View 50-52. The Lions will be looking to win the rest of their games in the regular season and carry the momentum into the post season as they will take on ACA on 2/21 and then a TBA opponent to wrap things up on 2/22.
5. Golden View Classical Academy
Golden View is currently sitting at 5th in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The Sentinels have an 18-3 overall record, a 10-0 league record and currently hold the 1st place spot for the Foothills League. GVCA is on a 12-game winning streak after last week where they beat Ascent Classical Academy72-38, Denver Jewish Day 63-37, and Loveland Classical 52-50. The team will be looking to hold onto their 5th place spot for the rest on the week as they will be looking for wins over STEMSHR on 2/21 and their last TBA opponent to end the regular season on 2/22.
6. Plateau Valley
The Cowboys are 17-1 overall on the season with a 9-0 league record and are 1st in the Western Slope League. During their last week of play, the boys of Plateau Valley were able to beat Caprock Academy 62-29, Soroco 59-12, and De Beque 61-46. The team will be looking to remain within the top 10 of the CHSAA Seeding Index and will be looking to wrap up their current 17 game win streak with three more wins which will be against Nucla on 2/22, Cedaredge on 2/25, and North Park on 3/1.
7. Sanford
The Mustangs hold the number 7 spot in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a current 15-4 overall record, a 5-0 league record, and the number 1 spot in the Southern Peaks League. In their last week of play, Sanford got big wins over league opponents Center 62-47 and Del Norte 75-46. The team will be looking to continue their 7-game winning streak as they wrap up their regular season with their last regular season game being on the road against Pagosa on 2/21.
8. Byers
Byers was able to get two wins last week and beat their opponents Deer Trail 62-22 and Limon 58-55. This gives the Bulldogs a 15-4 overall record, a 5-1 league record and are 2nd place in the Union Pacific League. Byers will be ending their regular season facing Heritage Christian on 2/22, Burlington on 2/26, and tournament play on 2/28 and 3/1. The Bulldogs will be looking to win these games to stay within the top 10 of the CHSAA Seeding Index.
9. Heritage Christian
The Eagles sit at number 9 of the CHSAA Seeding index with a 13-5 overall record, a 10-2 league record and are 3rd in the Mile High League. Heritage Christian was able to win their games last week after a loss in the previous week, and beat Front Range Christian 76-44 and Estes Park 55-44. The Eagles will be looking to overtake Byers on the seeding index this week and will end their regular season facing BCHS on 2/20 and Byers on 2/22.
10. Sedgwick County
Sedgwick County rounds out the top 10 of the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 12-5 overall record, a 2-2 league record and are 5th in the Lower Platte League. The Cougars had split success last week and lost their game against Holyoke 57-73, but was able to beat Burlington 56-45. The team will be looking to end their season within the top 10 of the seeding index and will be looking to get wins over Haxtun on 2/21, Lotus on 2/22 and then win throughout their tournament play on 2/26, 2/28 and 3/1.
30. Front Range Christian
The Falcons are currently inside of the playoff bubble at number 30 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. This season, the boys have a 7-11 over all record, a 3-8 league record, and are 10th in the Mile High League. Last week did not have the best results for Front Range Christian with the team falling to Clear Creek 38-58 and Heritage Chrisitan 44-76. The team will be looking to win their last game of the regular season to help their chances of staying inside of the playoff bubble and will take on Flatirons Academy on 2/20.
31. Crested Butte
The Titans currently sit at number 31 of the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 9-9 overall record, a 2-2 league record and are 4th in the Southern Peaks League. Last week, Crested Butte Lost to Gunnison 44-60, Lost to Cotopaxi 38-46, got the win over Hayden 67-26, and then fell Lake County 58-64. With only a couple of games left for the Titans, the team will want to win out to ensure they have done all that they could do to see the postseason. Crested Butte will end their regular season against Sargent on 2/21 and South Park on 2/22.
32. Dayspring Christian
As the last team in the playoff bubble, Dayspring Christian is 8-11 overall, 6-6 in league play, and 8th in the Mile High League. The Eagles got wins in both of their games last week, Beating Dawson School 54-48 in overtime, and Clear Creek 45-35 to bring their wins to three consecutive games. The team will be looking to wrap up their regular season with another win and within the playoff bubble as they will be looking for a win over SkyView Academy on 2/21.
33. Union Colony Prep
Union Colony currently sits just outside of the playoffs at number 33 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The team is 8-11 overall with a 3-9 league record and are 11th in the Mile High League. The team is currently on a 4 game losing streak, losing three of those games last week against Estes Park 39-61, Bishop Machebeuf 44-80 and Lyons 59-81. UCP will be looking to break their losing streak and win out the rest of their regular season, and will be hoping that someone ahead of them slips, allowing a spot for the Timberwolves to sneak into the post season. The end of the regular season will have the team facing off against Denver Academy on 2/20 and then tournament play on 2/25, 2/27 and 3/1.
34. Burlington
Burlington is currently the second team outside of the playoff bubble at 34 in the CHSAA Seeding Index with a 5-12 overall record, a 2-3 league record, and a 4th place spot in the Union Pacific League. The Cougars lost all of their games last week, falling to Stratton 58-68, Arickaree 44-54 and Sedgwick County 45-56. The team has a handful of games left on their schedule and will be looking to get some wins to wrap up their season and will try to make it inside of the playoff bubble. These games will be against Deer Trail on 2/20, Simla on 2/21, McClave on 2/22, Byers on 2/26, and tournament play on 2/28 and 3/1.
35. Swink
The Lions have a 6-13 overall record, are 3-4 in league play, 5th in the Santa Fe League, and are outside of the playoff bubble at 35 in the CHSAA Seeding Index. Last week, Swink fell to McClave 37-88 and Cheyenne Wells 29-49, but was able to get wins over Rocky Ford 75-53 and Calhan 66-50. Currently the team will need a lot of help to make it into the playoffs, but will start by trying to get a win over Lake City on 2/21, where then they can hope for other teams to lose and for enough shift to happen that they make it into the top 32.
