We have reached the final few days left of the regular season.  Most teams have locked up regional spots but still a few key races to look at in Class 2A Boys.  This week we look at the race to host a regional plus we will look at the few teams racing to get into regionals.  Regionals will be next Friday & Saturday; brackets will be released Sunday.  We will have projections updated tomorrow and Sunday morning!

All Rankings are based off CHSAA Seeding Index, pulled at 1pm on 2/28

#6 Golden View Classical (19-3)

Golden View Classical sits at #6 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  They have a .851 seeding index and are just .002 ahead of #7 Byers but are .03 ahead of #8 Sanford.  Golden View Classical is in great shape to host a regional but they do have one game remaining against 3A Addenbrooke Classical (13-9).  A win and Golden View Classical will host a regional but a loss will make things more interesting, especially with multiple teams behind them still playing games.  Golden View Classical is led by juniors Luke Chronowski (14.3 ppg) and Jacob Walker (13.6 ppg).

#7 Byers (17-4)

Byers sits at #7 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  They sit at .849 and are in very good shape to host a regional.  Byers is .028 ahead of #8 Sanford and .051 ahead of #9 Heritage Christian.  Byers has two games remaining on their schedule as they take place in the LPAA/UPL crossover tournament.  Byers will face Akron (12-9) tonight and then will face either Haxtun or Sedgwick County on Saturday.  Both games will have an impact on the CHSAA Seeding Index and could effect seeding.  Byers is led by junior Quincy Eacret (13.2 ppg) and sophomore James Maes (9.7 ppg).

#8 Sanford (17-5)

Sanford sits at #7 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  Sanford sits at .821 in the seeding index and are .023 ahead of #9 Heritage Christian & .044 ahead of #10 Haxtun.  Sanford has just one game remaining against 1A #5 Sierra Grande.  This game could still improve their seed but shouldn’t drop them down much with a loss.  Sanford is led by senior Ben Sittler (15.7 ppg) and junior Trason Gartrell (10.5 ppg).

#9 Heritage Christian (14-8)

Heritage Christian currently would be the #9 seed and would travel for regionals.  Heritage Christian is .023 behind Sanford.  Heritage Christian will need some help if they plan on jumping into the top 8 and hosting a regional.  Heritage Christian first must take care of their final opponent on 3/1 when they face Lyons (13-8).  Heritage Christian would also then need Sanford to fall or Byers to fall in their final games.  Heritage Christian is led by junior Alex Lundy (19.5 ppg) and senior Levi Hermsen (19.4 ppg).

#10 Haxtun (13-8)

Haxtun sits at #10 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  Haxtun is .044 behind #8 Sanford but also have a pair of games remaining that could help them push for a top 8 spot.  Haxtun will face #11 Sedgwick County (13-7) tonight and then will face Byers or Akron on Saturday.  If Haxtun could win a pair of games they will have a shot at a top 8 spot and host a regional.  Haxtun is led by junior Chase Goddard (13.4 ppg) and sophomore Madden Larsen (12.1 ppg).

#11 Sedgwick County (13-7) and #12 Akron (12-9)

Sedgwick County & Akron are both in the hunt to host but need some help.  Both Sedgwick County & Akron sit at .744 in the CHSAA Seeding Index and both need help to get into a spot to host a regional. Sedgwick County will face Haxtun tonight and Akron will face Byers.  Both teams need to win out on the weekend and that is not possible as they would have to face each other, which is why I lumped them together. A loss eliminates them for hosting a regional but if either gets on a run they will have a outside shot to host.

Sedgwick County is led by Tate Renquist (16.9 ppg) and Joshua Palic (13.2 ppg)

Akron is led by Caleb Poss (16.8 ppg) and Anderson Filla (11.2 ppg)

Bubble Teams

Remember Campion Academy is not playing at regionals so everyone after #19 will move up one spot.

#30 Union Colony Prep (11-11)

Union Colony Prep sits at #30 and they got a huge win last night over Gilpin County.  Union Colony Prep is still on the bubble as they face another team on the bubble tomorrow night in Front Range Christian.  Union Colony Prep is at .546 and are .04 ahead of Front Range Christian who is at #33.  Union Colony Prep could easily still fall out and winning over Front Range Christian would guarantee Union Colony Prep a spot at regionals.  Union Colony Prep is led by Josiah Rodriguez (18.1 ppg) and Tanner Sarchet (14.6 ppg).

#31 Dayspring Christian (9-13)

Dayspring Christian sits at #31 in the CHSAA Seeding Index.  Dayspring Christian has one game remaining against a 3A bubble team in Estes Park (#33).  Dayspring Christian sits at .527 they are .021 ahead of #33 Front Range Christian.  Dayspring Christian controls their own fate with their final game.  A win will lock them into regionals, but a loss will make them hope they can hold off Front Range Christina, Calhan, and Swink.  Dayspring Christian is led by Owen McClanahan (11.6 ppg) and Max Krehbiel (8.7 ppg).

#32 Burlington (6-15)

Burlington currently would be the last team into regionals as the #32 team.  Burlington is just ahead of #33 Front Range Christian sitting at .510 and Front Range Christian at .506.  Burlington will have one game remaining in the LPAA/UPL crossover tournament.  Burlington probably could get in with a loss but that would put their fate in the teams losing behind them.  Burlington with a win will at least give them a shot at holding onto the final regional spot.  Burlington is led by Weston Schall (11.6 ppg) and Adan Lopez-Mitchell (10.5 ppg).

#33 Front Range Christian (8-14)

Front Range Christian would be the first team out.  Front Range Christian sits at .506 which is just .004 behind Burlington at #32.  Front Range Christian has just one game remaining on 3/1 against Union Colony Prep who sits at #30.  Front Range Christian will control their own fate as a win over Union Colony Prep probably gets them into the regional field.  A loss for Front Range Christian will have them hoping Burlington lost ahead of them and the numbers fall their way.  Front Range Christian is led by Haedan Morton (13.0 ppg) and Zach Woo (12.8 ppg).

#34 Calhan (10-12)

Calhan sits at #34 and would be the 2nd team on the outside looking in.  Calhan sits at .477 and are .033 behind Burlington which is a wide gap.  Calhan only shot at reaching regionals would be to upset Simla tonight.  Calhan with an upset win would get them in as they would also be the league champions.  Calhan is led by Patrick Glaser who is averaging 22.9 ppg.

#35 Swink (7-14)

Swink sits at #35 and they are currently the 3rd team outside the playoff bubble.  Swink sits at .48 which is .042 behind Burlington, this would be a big gap to close.  Swink will end their season with a game against Rocky Ford (3-18).  I don’t think a win over Rocky Ford will be enough to get Swink into the playoffs but would at least give them a shot.  Swink is led by Nate Cabrera (12.8 ppg) and Landon Mills (11.4 ppg).
