Class 3A Boys Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. Remember this is just my opinion and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. Good Luck to all 32 teams!
Region 1 at Resurrection Christian
#1 Resurrection Christian over #32 Ignacio
#17 St. Mary’s over #16 Lyons
#16 vs #17 should be a good one as both teams hope to take their shot at the #1 team. Both teams have played tough schedules and I think will come down to the wire. I think Ignacio could make things interesting early but Resurrection Christian looks to be ready for that deep run.
#1 Resurrection Christian over #17 St. Mary’s
Resurrection Christian is a dominate team and they showed it in the loaded Patriot League. Rez Christian advances but look for St. Mary’s to make things interesting.
Region 2 at Forge Christian
#8 Forge Christian over #25 Brush
#9 Banning Lewis over #24 Manual
Brush played a tough schedule, but Forge Christian played one of the toughest 3A schedules in the state. Banning Lewis could be tested by a Manual team who is used to playing in Elite 8.
#8 Forge Christian over #9 Banning Lewis
This could be one of the best matchups of the Regional Finals! Forge Christian played a tough schedule, and it should have them ready to go against Banning Lewis. Banning Lewis also played a tough schedule.
Region 3 at Centauri
#5 Centauri over #28 Platte Valley
#21 Bayfield over #12 Peyton
Platte Valley could make things interesting against the undefeated Falcons. I do think Centauri gets the win but Platte Valley is battle tested. Peyton vs Bayfield could be one of the best first round matchups in Class 3A. Peyton did not play the toughest schedule to end the year with their best win coming over TCA 63-61 or Fowler on 2/21 55-44. Bayfield ended the year with one of their best wins over the season over 4A Montezuma-Cortez then Pagosa Springs the following night.
#5 Centauri over #21 Bayfield
It is never easy beating a team three times in a season and if Centauri and Bayfield play that would be the third meeting. I think Centauri is woken up after their first-round game and advances to state.
Region 4 at Yuma
#4 Yuma over #29 Monte Vista
#13 Liberty Common over #20 Buena Vista
Monte Vista could make things interesting with their athleticism early but look for the discipline of Yuma to help pull away from Monte Vista. Liberty Common vs Buena Vista has me very intrigued. I am going Liberty Common due to them playing a tougher schedule in the Patriot and holding their own against the top teams.
#4 Yuma over #13 Liberty Common
Yuma vs Liberty Common would be their third meeting of the season. Yuma won both and it’s never easy to beat a team three times in one season. Yuma will have home court advantage and that will be a big factor!
Region 5 at Windsor Charter
#2 Windsor Charter over #31 Fountain Valley
#15 Roaring Fork over #18 Denver Christian
Roaring Fork vs Denver Christian should be one of the best matchups in the Opening Round. Denver Christian is battle tested playing in the 4A/3A Metro and Roaring Fork is the league champion from the Western Slope. Look for a great matchup!
#2 Windsor Charter over #15 Roaring Fork
Windsor Charter looks to be a poised for a deep run but will have to play disciplined against either of their opponents.
Region 6 at SkyView Academy
#7 SkyView Academy over #26 Frontier Academy
#10 Vanguard over #23 Wray
Vanguard vs Wray could be a good matchup. Wray has played against top competition all season but Vanguard has also in the Tri-Peaks. SkyView Academy could be tested early by Frontier Academy but look for them to advance.
#10 Vanguard over #7 SkyView Academy
This is one of the matchups to watch in the Regional Finals. The #7 vs #10 are usually very close and I expect that to be true in this matchup. Both teams have plenty of experience back and should be a great matchup.
Region 7 at Highland
#6 Highland over #27 C.S Christian
#11 Middle Park over #22 Wiggins
Highland could be tested by C.S Christian. C.S Christian has upset some of the top teams this year but I do think Highland gets by C.S Christian. Middle Park could also be tested by Wiggins but look for Middle Park to advance.
#6 Highland over #11 Middle Park
Highland has experience over Middle Park and that could be a huge difference. Middle Park picked up a nice win over Jefferson Academy to end the year and honestly this matchup could be one of the best of the regional finals!
Region 8 at Strasburg
#3 Strasburg over #30 Addenbrooke Classical
#14 Salida over #19 Lotus School
The higher seeds should advance here as long as they don’t overlook their opponents.
#3 Strasburg over #14 Salida
I think this could be a solid matchup. Salida will have to play their best game of the season to try and pull the upset. Salida has state tournament experience, but Strasburg also has key experience. Look for Strasburg to advance.
