Class 1A Boys Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. Remember this is just my opinion and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. Good Luck to all 32 teams!
Region 1 at McClave
#1 McClave over #32 Sangre De Cristo
#16 De Beque over #17 Cotopaxi
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Both teams play different styles but I think De Beque tougher schedule and their size could be a difference maker.

De Beque has the size to matchup with McClave but will have to play their best game of the season to pull the upset. McClave looks to try and get over the hump this year.
Region 2 at Sierra Grande
#8 Sierra Grande over #25 Wiley
#9 Elbert over #24 Kit Carson
I like both of the higher seeds in the opening rounds but both Wiley and Kit Carson should push these teams. The higher seeds cannot overlook their opponents.
#8 Sierra Grande over #9 Elbert
This could be one of the best matchups in the Regional Finals. Sierra Grande has homecourt advantage plus they have the experience. Wouldn’t be surprised if Elbert gets the win as they are playing good basketball down the stretch.
Region 3 at Primero
#5 Primero over #28 Eads
#12 Peetz over #21 Cheraw
Peetz vs Cheraw has the most intriguing in the opening round. Peetz did not end the season on a high note and will have to find their rhythm again. I also think Eads have the athleticism to give Primero trouble early in the game.

This should be a great matchup! If Peetz can play up to their potential, then I think they get the upset. Primero is very talented and if they can play solid defense, I think they will advance.
Region 4 at Stratton
#4 Stratton over #29 Idalia
#13 Holly over #20 Pikes Peak Christian
Stratton is playing their best basketball of the season and will be the favorite against Idalia. Holly will be tested against Pikes Peak Christian. Holly will look to get to the regional finals, something they did not do a year ago.
#4 Stratton over #13 Holly
Holly has the top end talent to push Stratton. Both Holly and Stratton have played tough schedules but as I mentioned Stratton is playing their best basketball of the season.
Region 5 at Otis
#2 Otis over #31 Hanover
#18 Arickaree over #15 Denver Waldorf
Denver Waldorf vs Arickaree will be one of the best opening round matchups. I switched this pick multiple times, but I am going with Arickaree in this matchup
#2 Otis over #18 Arickaree
I think the winner of Arickaree vs Denver Waldorf will be beat up and I think this could be a big factor. Otis has beaten Arickaree twice this season and if they meet for a third time it’s tough to beat a team three times in one season.
Region 6 at Flatirons Academy
#7 Flatirons Academy over #26 Caliche
#10 Granada over #23 Denver Jewish Day
Caliche ended the year on a high note defeating both Peetz and Fleming. I do think Flatirons Academy also ended the year on a high note. Granada vs Denver Jewish Day is the matchup that intrigues me the most.

If this matchup happens both of these teams made it to Greeley last year. I think Flatirons Academy has a bit more experience back and I think it makes a big difference, but I could see Granada pull the big upset especially with Coleman.
Region 7 at Kim HS
#6 Kim/Branson over #27 Denver Academy of Torah
#11 Front Range Baptist over #22 Prairie
Front Range Baptist vs Prairie has me very interested especially since Prairie has pulled multiple upsets this season. Front Range Baptist I think get the win but look for this to be a close matchup.
#6 Kim/Branson over #11 Front Range Baptist
The home court advantage could prove to be the difference this year. These two teams also meet last year in the opening round of regionals, but Kim/Branson is a year older, and I think get by Front Range Baptist this season.
Region 8 at Cheyenne Wells
#3 Cheyenne Wells over #30 Ouray
#14 Nucla over #19 Evangelical Christian
CW begins their title defense, and they will be tested by Ouray who is playing their best basketball of the season. Nucla vs ECA will be the start of the opening round. Both ECA and Nucla have lost games they shouldn’t have this season and should make for a great opening round matchup.
#3 Cheyenne Wells over #14 Nucla
Cheyenne Wells is starting to play their best basketball of the season and pushed the #1 seed to the end. I like CW over Nucla, but I do think this will be a tough matchup for the defending state champions.
