Class 1A Girls Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. Remember this is just my opinion and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. Good Luck to all 32 teams!
Region 1 at McClave
#1 McClave over #32 Elbert
#16 Flagler over #17 Granada
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state. I don’t see McClave being upset in the first round.

McClave has proven to be a top team all year and will look to get to state. Flagler will have to play their most complete game to try and pull the upset.
Region 2 at Hi-Plains
#8 Hi-Plains over #25 Kim/Branson
#9 De Beque over #24 Lone Star
De Beque vs Lone Star could be a very interesting matchup. I think De Beque experience and size will be a difference. I also think the youth of both Hi-Plains and Kim/Branson makes things very interesting.

It could be one of the best matchups in the Regional Finals if this happens. I have had both Hi-Plains and De Beque ranked all season. De Beque has senior leadership and that could be a difference. I like Hi-Plains tougher schedule, and they ended the year playing good basketball. I switched this pick multiple times.
Region 3 at Fleming
#5 Fleming over #28 Creede
#12 Cheyenne Wells over #21 Sierra Grande
Cheyenne Wells vs Sierra Grande could be interesting early and if SG can hit some early shots, they could make this a game. Sierra Grande has had some big upsets at regionals in the past.

I am surprised these two teams have not met this season and it could be one of the better regional final matchups. I like how Fleming did end the year and I am giving them the slight edge over Cheyenne Wells.
Region 4 at Stratton
#4 Stratton over #29 La Veta
#13 Flatirons Academy over #20 Cheraw
Cheraw vs Flatirons Academy should be a great matchup in the opening round. If Cheraw can limit the top scorer of Flatirons Academy they can pull the upset.
#4 Stratton over #13 Flatirons Academy
Stratton has been one of the top 5 teams in Class 1A all season. I don’t them being upset in the regional finals but could be tested by either opponent.
Region 5 at Idalia
#2 Idalia over #31 Weldon Valley
#15 Prairie over #18 Otis
Prairie vs Otis will be the third time these two teams have faced each other. Prairie has won both by 10+ points but this time expect it to be much closer. I expect a great battle in the 15 vs 18 matchup.
#2 Idalia over #15 Prairie
Idalia is playing some of the best basketball in Class 1A and look for them to advance. Idalia did face Prairie on 2/24 with Idalia winning by 12 points. If this is a rematch this could be a great regional finals game!
Region 6 at Evangelical Christian
#7 ECA over #26 Cotopaxi
#10 Springfield over #23 Mile High Academy
I don’t see either high seed being upset in the opening round. I think Mile High Academy could push Springfield but both ECA and Springfield are playing good basketball.
#7 ECA over #10 Springfield
What could be one of the better regional final games. ECA vs Springfield features two league champions squaring off and both teams are battle tested. I think the experience for ECA proves to be the difference but watch out for this Springfield team going forward!
Region 7 at Briggsdale
#6 Briggsdale over #27 Arickaree
#11 Caliche over #22 Kit Carson
Both high seeds will be favored in their matchups. I do think Kit Carson has shown glimpses of being able to contend with top teams and could challenge Caliche. Arickaree has also shown to contend with top teams and this region will be a blast.
#6 Briggsdale over #11 Caliche
If Briggsdale vs Caliche happens it would be just their second meeting this season. Briggsdale won the first contest but there is some big difference from that meeting till now. Briggsdale, I feel is still lead by a great senior and that proves to be a huge difference. Caliche will be back next year and with even more experience.
Region 8 at Eads
#3 Eads over #30 South Baca
#14 Nucla over #19 Genoa-Hugo
A great opening round matchup between Nucla and Genoa-Hugo. Genoa-Hugo has played a tough schedule all season and have contended with the top teams. Nucla has not played as tough of a schedule but do have plenty of quality win. I could see either team advance.
#3 Eads over #14 Nucla
I think Eads is the real deal and with more experience this season I see them advancing. Eads has already played Genoa-Hugo this season with Eads winning by 15+. Eads vs Nucla would also be a great matchup. Nucla has those big wins over 2A Dove Creek under their belt.
