3A Wrestling State Championship Recap

The 2025 State Wrestling Championships have come and gone and now that we have had a little time to relax let’s dive into our state recap, we will look at the team races and what contributed to those finishes as well as Individual accomplishments.

  1. Brush – 132.0

Came in to the tournament picked to take it all, qualified 11 wrestlers to compete and received team points from 10 of them.  The bulk of the contributions came from their 3 individual state champions; Nick Dardanes at 138 pounds, Austin Ley at 165 pounds, and Ritchie Bruno at 175 pounds.  They got significant help from their three other state placers; Levi Cox at 144 placed 4th, Riley Tuck at 190 placed 5th, and Christaun Astorga at 215 placed 4th

  • Alamosa – 110.5

Came in to the state tournament ranked second as a team and finished right at that spot.  Qualified 7 for the tournament and received team contributions from 6 of them.  Alamosa would take 4 total wrestlers into the state finals and Jeremiah DeLaCerda would take the championship at 106.  Anthony Meder (113), Uriah Martinez (126), and Dyson Woodward (150) would bring home 2nd.  Jace Morgan (165) would finish in 6th to contribute to the team’s runner-up finish.

  • Eaton – 107.5

Also finished as a team right where they were picked to, received significant team contributions from 5 of their 7 qualified wrestlers.  Would be bolstered by their two individual champions in Blake Hawkins at 113 and Cal Sidwell at 190.  Their other finalist, Paxton Pettinger, would bring home the runner-up at 157.  They would also have two other state placers; Dylan Paris (132) placed 4th, and Ethan Deal (138) grabbed 5th

  • Centauri – 88.0

Picked to finish the state tournament just inside the top ten with a 9th place rank.  Were able to climb the spots for several reasons.  Qualified 8 total wrestlers and placed 4 of them.  They would take two wrestlers into the finals and Parker Buhr at 157 would bring home the gold.  Matthew Salazar at 106 would bring back 2nd.  Their other two state placers were Troy Munson (165) placed 5th, and Spencer Smith (175) placed 4th.  Centauri was able to perform above expectations thanks to there non placing wrestlers grabbing a few points but also because of Spencer Smith finishing two places above “expectations” and Parker Buhr grabbing the title where he was picked (by some) to finish in second.

  • Mullen – 84.0

Picked to finish in 4th, finished just behind that in 5th.  Took 6 wrestlers to state and placed 4 of them.  Isaak Chavez (175) would bring home 2nd, Antonio Herrera (113) 3rd, Champion Dyes (285) 3rd, and Estevan Loya (190) 4th.

  • Valley – 80.5

Also picked to place just on spot above from where they actually finished.  Qualified 7 for the tournament received some sort of contribution from everyone in varying degrees.  Mostly from that of their 4 state placers: Garrett McGirl (150) placed 3rd, Rocky Hoffschneider (165) placed 3rd, Nehemiah Whaley (157) finished in 4th, and Diego Manriquez (132) finished in 6th.

  • Resurrection Christian – 72.5

Finished at the exact spot that there were picked to, 58.5 of their 72.5 points would come from just two of their six wrestlers.  Isaiah Johnson (215) and Samuel Stockton (285) would go back-to-back on finals night and both grab state titles.

  • Fort Lupton – 71.5

Also finished right on the mark of what they were picked to as a team.  Took 7 wrestlers to state would receive points from 5 of them.  They placed 4 of those wrestlers with Christopher Galicia (165) making the finals and grabbing runner-up honors, Josiah Gonzales (138) taking 3rd, Logan Sweetman (120) taking 4th, and Isaiah Rodriguez (106) grabbed 5th

  • Holy Family – 68.5

Finished tied for 9th place where they were picked to finish not inside even the top 13 teams.  This was made possible by Lorenzo Trujillo who finished 3rd where he was not picked to place at all at 120, Camden Austin at 215 would take second in a bracket he was picked to take 3rd, and Jake Pounders (144) grabbed a 6th place finish where he was not picked to place as well.

  • Jefferson – 68.5

Finished tied for 9th and were picked to finish just outside top ten at 11.  57 of their 68.5 team points can be attributed to Samuel Rosales (132) and Isaiah Gallegos (144) who both grabbed the individual state titles.  They grabbed another 11.5 team points from their other state placer in Enzo Hernandez (150) who come out in 6th where he was not picked to place.

I want to wish congratulations to all the wrestlers in 3A for completing their season in such a grueling and demanding sport.  For those seniors that have completed their high school wrestling journeys I wish you luck in the future and hope that wrestling has helped to prepare you for the many ups and downs life will present.  For those that will be returning to the mat next season, only (roughly) 35 weeks till the season begins, get to work!
