
Class 2A Girls Basketball Regional Preview

The last two weeks of the season are here, and teams are gearing up to be the last one standing. This week is regionals which means there will be 8 locations hosting 4 teams each to see who gets to punch their ticket to the big dance in Loveland. This week we will take a quick look at each team who made it to regionals and see their seasons success and see who they will be facing this weekend. Only one team from each region will advance, to strap in and get ready for the ride.

1. Merino Vs 32. Kiowa
Merino is the host of their region with a 21-1 overall record and a 5-1 league record. The team ended their regular season 2md in the Lower Platte League and 1st in the CHSAA Seeding Index. The team will kick off regionals with against Kiowa who is 10-13 overall, has a 4-2 league record and is 3rd in the Black Forrest League. The winner will advance and face the winner of Plateau Valley and Calhan.
16. Plateau Valley Vs 17. Calhan
Plateau Valley and Calhan will be traveling to Merino to face one another in the first round of districts. Plateau Valley is 16-6 overall on the season with a 6-3 league record and a 4th place finish in the Western Slope League. Calhan is 14-9 overall on the season with a 4-1 league record and a 2nd place finished in the Black Forrest League. The winner of this game will advance to the next round and face the winner of Merino and Kiowa.
8. Sargent vs 25. Crowley County
Sargent hosts their region this season and will start off against Crowley County. In the regular season, Sargent has gone 17-5 overall, 5-1 in league and ended 2nd in the Southern Peaks League behind Sanford. Crowley County has gone 12-11 overall in the regular season 4-3 in league play and ended 5th in the Santa Fe League. The winner of this game will move and face the winner of Heritage Christian and Fowler.
9. Heritage Christian Vs 24. Fowler
Heritage Christian and Fowler will travel to Sargent to face each other in the first round of districts. Th eagles are 20-3 overall on the season, 12-0 in league play and 1st in the Mile High League. They will face the Grizzlies who are 9-14 overall, 4-3 in league play and ended 4th in the Santa Fe League. The winner of this game will face the winner of Sargent and Crowley County.
5. Burlington vs 28. Swink
The Burlington Cougars host their regionals this week and will start their playoff journey against the Swink Lions. Burlington is 18-5 overall on the season with a 6-0 leaguer record and took the 1st place spot in the Union Pacific League. The Lions of Swink are 10-13 on the season with a 5-2 league record and ended 2nd in the Santa Fe League. The winner of this game will advance to the final round of regionals and will play the winner of West Grand and Las Animas.
12.West Grand vs 21. Las Animas
West Grand and Las Animas will travel to Burlington to play in the regional hosted by the Cougars. The Mustangs of West Grand are 20-3 overall on the season with an 8-1 league record and a 2nd place spot in the Western Slope League. Las Animas is 12-11 overall on the season, 5-2 in league play and the Trojans ended up 3rd in the Santa Fe League. The winner of this game will advance to the regional championship and face the winner if Burlington and Swink.
4. Rangely vs 29. Ridgway
The Panthers are the host of their regional this season, ending 4th in the seeding index. Rangely went through the regular season with a perfect record of 23-0 , 9-0 league record and ended 1st in the Western Slope League. They will be facing Ridgway in the first round of regionals who is 12-8 overall on the season with a 7-5 league record and a 3rd place finish in the San Juan League. The winner of this game will advance and face the winner of Akron and South Park in the regional Championship.
13. Akron vs. 20. South Park
Akron and South Park will travel to Rangely to face one another in the first round of regionals. Akron ended their regular season with a 13-10 overall record, a 2-4 league record and ended 4th in the Lower Platte League. South Park ends their regular season with a 15-8 overall record, a 5-4 league record and 2nd in the West Central League. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Rangely and Ridgway to try and punch their ticket to the State tournament.
2. Sanford vs. 31. Holyoke
Sanford ended their regular season 2nd in the seeding index and as the host of their regional. The Mustangs ended their regular season with a 21-2 overall record, a 6-0 league record and 1st in the Southern Peaks league. In the first round of regionals, they will take on the Holyoke Dragons who are 4-19 on the season with a 0-6 league record and a 5th place finish in the Lower Platte League. The winner of this game will continue to the last round of the regionals to face the winner of Gilpin County and Dove Creek in the battle to make it to the State tournament.
15. Gilpin County Vs 18. Dove Creek
Gilpin County and Dove Creek will make the journey to Sanford to face one another in the first round of regionals. The Gilpin County Eagles are 18-5 overall on the regular season with an 11-1 league record and ended 2nd in the Mile high League. They will be playing Dove Creek who is 18-5 overall on the season, 10-2 in league play and ended 2nd in the San Juan League. The winner will face the victor of Sanford and Holyoke in the regional Championship game.
7. Hoehne vs. 26. Trinidad
Hoehne snags a host spot this year and will be taking on Trinidad in the first round of the regional tournament. The Farmers ended their regular season 20-3 overall, 7-0 in league play and 1st in the Santa Fe League. Trinidad ends their regular season11-11 overall on the season with a 1-5 league record and ended 5th in the Southern Peaks League. The winner of this game will advance to face Center or Dayspring Christian in the final game of regionals.
10. Center vs. 23. Dayspring Christian
Center and Dayspring will face each other in the first round of regionals in Hoehne. Center ends their regular season with a 16-7 overall record, one of the best their program history, a 4-3 league, and finished 4th in the Southern Peaks League. Dayspring Christian ends their regular season with a 10-13 overall record, a 8-4 league record, and in 4th place in the Mile High League. The winner of this game will advance to face the winner of Hoehne and Trinidad in the final regional game to try and make it to the State tournament.
6. Simla Vs. 27. Loveland Classical
Simla hosts the region as the 6th place spot. The Cubs end their regular season with a 17-5 overall record, a 5-0 league record and 1st in the Black Forrest League. Their first opponent of regionals will be against Loveland Classical. The Lions ended their regular season with a 13-9 overall record, a 6-1 league record and 2nd in the Foothills League. The winner of this game will play the winner of Byers and Hayden for the chance to go to State.
11. Byers Vs. 22. Hayden
Byers and Hayden will face each other in the first round of regionals in Simla. Byers end their regular season with a 14-9 overall record, a 4-2 overall record, and in 3rd in the Union Pacific League. Hayden comes into regionals with a 10-8 overall record, a 5-4 league record and in 5th place in the Western Slope League. The winner of this game will advance to the finals of regionals and play either Simla or Loveland Classical to make it to State.
3. Sedgwick County Vs. 30. Limon
Sedgwick County has a successful season and hosts their regional tournament. The Cougars ended their regular season with a 17-4 overall record, a 4-0 league record and 1st in the Lower Platte League. They will kick off postseason play against Limon who is 4-19 overall on the regular season 1-5 and 6th in the Union Pacific League. The winner this game will advance to face the winner of Del Norte and Haxtun in the regional championship.
14. Del Norte vs. 19. Haxtun
Del Norte will be facing Haxtun in the first round of the regional tournament at Revere High School. The Tigers are 13-8 overall on the regular season with a 4-3 league record and a 3rd place finish in the Southern Peaks League. The fightin’ Bulldogs of Haxtun ended their regular season with a 8-14 overall record, a 2-3 league record, and 3rd in the Lower Platte League. The winner of this game will advance to the regional championship and face either the hosts Sedgwick County or Limon.
