3A Girls Basketball Regional Preview

The last two weeks of the season are here, and teams are gearing up to be the last one standing. This week is regionals which means there will be 8 locations hosting 4 teams each to see who gets to punch their ticket to the big dance in Denver. This week we will take a quick look at each team who made it to regionals and see their seasons success and see who they will be facing this weekend. Only one team from each region will advance, to strap in and get ready for the ride.

1. Resurrection Christian Vs. 32. Forge Christian

Resurrection Christian leads 3A girls and hosts their region as they head into post season play. The Cougars are 21-2 overall on the season with a 9-1 league record and a 1st place spot in the Patriot league. To kick off regionals, the team will face the Forge Chrisitan Fury who are 8-15 overall on the season with a 4-6 league record and a 7th place finish in the Metro League. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Platte Valley and Gunnison for the privilege of making it to the State tournament.

16. Platte Valley Vs. 17. Gunnison

Platte Valley and Gunnison will travel to Resurrection Christian to face one another in the first round of the regionals. Platte Valley ends their regular season with a 15-8 overall record, a 4-6 league record and in 7th in the Patriot League. Gunnison ended their regular season with a 15-8 overall record, a 10-4 league record and in 3rd in the Western Slope League. The winner of this game will advance to the regional championship and face the winner of Resurrection Christian and Forge Christian.

8.Strasburg Vs. 25 Meeker

Strasburg ends their regular season as the last team to host a regional. The Indians are 17-6 overall on the season with a 9-1 league record and a 2nd place finish in the Patriot League. The team will start regionals facing the Meeker Cowboys who are 11-12 overall on the season with a 6-8 league record and a 4th place finish in the Western Slope League. The winner of this game will play for a chance to go to the state tournament against the winner of Roaring Fork and Lyons.

9. Roaring Fork Vs 24. Lyons

Roaring Fork and Lyons are the other two teams traveling to Strasburg for Regionals. Roaring Frok ended their regular season with a 21-2 overall record, a 12-2 league record and a 2nd place finish in the Western Slope League. They will be facing Lyons in the first round of regionals to try and advance to the regional championship against either Strasburg or Meeker. Lyons is 16-6 overall in the regular season with  an 8-4 league record and ended 5th in the Mile High League.

5. Colorado Springs Christian vs. 28 Windsor Charter Academy

Colorado Springs Christian finishes their regular season as a host of regionals. The Lions were able to end their regular season with a 20-3 overall record, they went 13-0 in league play and ended 1st in the Tri-Peaks League. To start their postseason journey, the team will be taking on Windsor Charter in the first regional round who is 11-12 overall on the season, 1-9 in league play and 10th in the Patriot League. The winner of this game will advance to play Brush or Peyton for the ticket to the state tournament.

12. Brush Vs 21. Peyton

Brush and Peyton will be travelling to Colorado Springs Christian to play each other in the first round of regionals. Brush with 14-9 overall on the season with a 6-4 league record and a 5th place finish in the Patriot league. The Peyton Panthers are 11-11 on the season with a 1-2 league record and a 2nd place finish in the Black Forrest League. The winner of this game will play for a chance to go to State against the winner of CS Christian and Windsor Charter.

4. Cedaredge Vs. 29 Ignacio

Cedaredge ends their regular season 4th in 3A and hosts a region. The Bruins end their regular season with a perfect record of 23-0 overall, 14-0 in league, and 1st in the Western Slope League. The team will kick off their postseason run against the Ignacio Bobcats who ended their regular season 8-14 overall, 4-8 in league and finished 5th in the Intermountain league. The winner of this round will advance and play the winner of Yuma and Monte Vista to determine who will go to State.

13. Yuma Vs 20. Monte Vista

Yuma and Monte Vista will be the other teams who will travel to Cedaredge to be apart of their regional and will face each other in the first round. Yume is 11-12 overall in the regular season with a 5-5 league record and a 6th place finish in the Patriot League. Monte Vista ends their regular season with a similar looking record of 11-11 overall, 5-7 in league play and a 4th place finish in the Intermountain League. The winner of this faceoff will advance to the regional finals and play to make it to State.

2. Centauri Vs. 31. Liberty Common

Centauri finishes their regular season as the number 2 seed and hosts their region. The Falcons are 20-3 overall on the season with an 11-1 league record and a 1st place finish in the Intermountain League. To start their postseason, Centauri will face the Liberty Common Eagles who are 8-15 overall on the season with a 2-7 league record and are 9th in the Patriot League. The winner of this round will advance to the finals to play for a State tournament ticket against the winner of Ellicott and Manual.

15. Ellicott Vs. 18. Manual

Ellicott will travel to Centauri to play Manual in the first round of regionals. Ellicott is 16-7 overall on the season with a 9-5 league record and ended 5th in the Tri-Peaks League. Manual shows a similar record of 16-5 overall, 11-1 in league play and a 2nd place finish in the City League. The winner of this game will advance to the final regional round and face the winner of Centauri and Liberty Common to try and make it to the State tournament.

7. Highland Vs. 26 Buena Vista

Highland enters the postseason with a 16-7 overall record, a 9-1 league record, 3rd in the Patriot League and as a regional host. In the first round of the postseason, the Huskies will take on the Buena Vista Demons who come into regionals with a 10-13 overall record, an 8-7 league record and a 7th place finish in the Tri-peaks League. The winner of this round will advance to play the winner of Wiggins and North Fork in the final round of regionals and see who will move on to state.

10. Wiggins Vs 23. North Fork

Wiggins will be one of the teams who will be traveling to Highland to play in regionals. The Tigers have an overall record of 15-8, a league record of 6-3 and a 4th place finish in the Patriot league. They will be playing another team designated to travel to Highland in North Fork. The Miners are 11-11 overall on the season with a 6-8 league record and a 5th place finish in the Western Slope league. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of Highland and Buena Vista to try and get to the state tournament.

6. Salida Vs 27 Conifer

Salida comes into the postseason as a regional host with a 19-4 overall record, an 11-3 league record and in 3rd in the Tri-Peaks League. In the first round of regionals, the Spartans will play the Conifer Lobos who ended their regular season with a 14-9 overall record, a 2-7 league record, and 8th in the Jeffco league. The winner of this first game will play and face the winner of Thomas MacLaren and The Vanguard for a spot in the state tournament.

11. Thomas MacLaren School Vs. The Vanguard School

Thomas MacLaren and The Vanguard school will travel to Salida to play in the first round of the post season. Thomas MacLaren has a season record of 20-3 overall, a 3-0 league record and a 1st place spot in the Black Forest League. The Highlanders will be taking on The Vanguard School Coursers who are 11-10 overall on the season, 7-6 in league place and ended 6th in the Tri-Peaks league. The winner of this game will take on the winner of Salida and Conifer to try and punch their ticket to the state tournament.

3. Denver Christian Vs 30. Middle Park

Denver Christian comes into the postseason as a host of their region with the 3rd seed, with a 22-1 overall record, a 10-0 league record and 1st in the Metro league. In the first round of their postseason, the Thunder will be taking on Middle Park. The Panthers are 12-10 overall on the season with a 5-0 league record and they finished 1st in the Frontier league. The winner of this game will have a chance to fight for a spot in the state tournament against the winner of St. Mary’s and Addenbrooke Classical.

14. St. Mary’s Vs. Addenbrooke Classical Academy

St. Mary’s and Addenbrooke Classical will travel to Denver Christian to play each other in the first round of the postseason. St. Mary’s ends their regular season with a 15-8 overall record with a 10-3 league record and a 4th place finish in the Tri-Peaks League. Addenbrooke Classical ends their regular season with a 20-3 overall record, a 7-0 league record and ended 1st in the Foothills league. The winner of this round will play in the regional finals against the winner of Denver Christian and Middle Park for a chance to go to the state tournament.
