Class 1A Girls State Tournament Predictions
Elite 8 Predictions
#1 McClave over #8 Hi-Plains
McClave comes back to the State Tournament as the #1 seed and returns a ton of experience from last year’s team. McClave has won 6 straight games including wins over Burlington and Cheyenne Wells. McClave dominated the competition at regionals defeating Elbert 70-12 and Flagler 61 to 23. Hi-Plains ended the regular season on a down note but that did not stop them at regionals. Hi-Plains defeated Kim/Branson 44 to 20 then defeated De Beque 40 to 32. Hi-Plains has a young roster and look to know off the top team. I am giving the edge to McClave due to their state tournament experience.
#4 Stratton over #5 Fleming Best Game of the Opening Round
This should be a fantastic game, and I expect this to come down to the wire. These two teams faced each other with Stratton winning 54 to 39. Stratton has won 6 straight games coming into the Elite 8. Stratton made quick work of their regional opponents defeating La Veta 54 to 21 and Flatirons Academy 51 to 15. Fleming ended their regular season with a loss, but they quickly bounced back as they entered regionals. Fleming dominated Creede 57 to 11 then played a tough physical game with Cheyenne Wells and got the 45 to 28 win. I truly believe either team can win this game and expect it to come down to the wire.
#2 Idalia over #7 Evangelical Christian 3rd Best Game of the Opening Round
Idalia has been on a tear winning 13 straight games entering the Elite 8. Idalia lost on 1/25 against Eads 46 to 36. Idalia played excellently at regionals winning both games by 29+ points. Idalia defeated Weldon Valley 50 to 21 and Prairie 56 to 23. Evangelical Christian is playing their best basketball of the season. ECA played a tough schedule down the stretch, and it prepared them for regionals. ECA at regionals defeated Cotopaxi 58 to 20 and in the regional finals defeated Springfield 54 to 32. Both Idalia and ECA are playing great basketball. I am giving the edge to Idalia due to their experience at the State Tournament, but both have played tough schedule and will be battle tested.
#3 Eads over #6 Briggsdale 2nd Best Game of the Opening Round
Eads enters the state tournament winning 16 straight games including wins over Cheyenne Wells, Idalia, and Stratton. Eads has been on a tear this year and they took care of business at regionals. Eads defeated South Baca 63 to 27 then Genoa-Hugo 56 to 26 to advance to Elite 8. Briggsdale lost a key starter around 7 games ago and that did not stop them from reaching the state tournament to try and defend their state crown. Briggsdale was tested at regional defeating Arickaree 48 to 42 then defeating Caliche 36 to 32 in the regional championship. Briggsdale vs Eads is a matchup of two traditional powers, and you can expect a great defensive battle. I am going with Eads in this matchup, but I do expect a great matchup!

#4 Stratton over #2 Idalia (3rd Place Game)
#5 Fleming over #6 Briggsdale (5th Place Game)
I think we are in for some AMAZING games In the Class 1A. I can easily make a case for 5 of the 8 teams to win a state championship and even then, I think all 8 teams are well rounded and will make for some competitive games. I am very excited to see how everything boils down and I could easily see myself being way wrong, but I am excited for 3 great days of basketball. Remember to follow the scores of the games, check out our Facebook page & twitter. We plan on having pictures posted on Facebook as well. We will also have updates on the website as well. Good Luck to all teams.
