Class 2A Girls State Tournament Predictions

We are a few days from the State Tournament kicking off.  We will have predictions out Today, Tomorrow and Wednesday.  I will give my predictions for all 4 Classes boys and girls.  Wednesday we will preview Class 1A thru 3A Boys & Girls.  If you would like to share your predictions, I would love to see everyone’s thoughts.  Also, remember we are not cheering against any team, this is something we have done since we started the website, and we are wrong all the time!

Class 2A Boys State Tournament Predictions

Elite 8 Predictions

#1 Merino over #8 Sargent

Merino saw their 40+ game winning streak snapped earlier in the year but have since bounced back winning 8 straight games and doing so in dominate fashion.  Merino made quick work of regionals defeating Kiowa 59-6 and Calhan 74-24.  Merino looks to use their fast style and full court press to repeat as state champions.  Sargent lone hiccups on the year have been to regionals teams including Cedaredge, Centauri, and Sanford (x2).  Those three teams are all playing in the state tournament and that means the Farmers are battle tested.  Sargent was tested at regionals defeating Crowley County 57-34 and Heritage Christian 36-30.  Sargent will have to avoid foul trouble and take care of the basketball to avoid the upset.

#5 Burlington over #13 Akron 2^nd Best Game of the Elite 8

This should be a great game and could see either team walk away with a win.  Burlington ended the regular season going 3-2 but played dominate at regionals.  Burlington defeated Swink 67-19 and Las Animas 46-27 to punch their ticket to Loveland.  Burlington will have to get good guard play to have a shot at advancing.  Akron is the lone double digit seed to reach the Elite 8 in Class 2A.  No surprise that the Rams are here after playing one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A.  Akron defeated South Park at regionals 49-24 then upset #4 Rangely 52-29.  Akron will look for their guards to make a huge difference as Akron looks for another big upset.

#2 Sanford over #7 Hoehne 3^rd Best Game of the Elite 8

Sanford has won 19 straight games with their last loss coming back in December to 3A #2 Centauri.  During their winning streak Sanford defeated Mesa Vista, Center, Del Norte, Sargent (x2), and 4A #7 Pagosa Springs.  Sanford at regionals powered their way to state with a 48-15 win over Holyoke and a 49-23 win over Gilpin County.  Sanford will look to their defensive play and sharp shooting to advance.  Hoehne has just two losses since January 1^st with both coming to top ranked teams in Class 1A or 2A.  Hoehne has already faced Sanford falling to the Mustangs 39-30 back in December.  Hoehne played very well at regionals defeating Trinidad 58-10 and Center 58-26.  Look for this to be a very close game and another phenomenal opening round matchup.

#3 Sedgwick County over #6 Simla Best Game of the Elite 8

This was the toughest decision to make as both Sedgwick County and Simla are top ranked teams, and I can see either going on a deep run or winning the tournament.  Sedgwick County ended the year strong winning 10 out of their last 11 games with their lone loss coming to #1 Merino.  Sedgwick County played very well in the regionals defeating Limon 61-21 and Haxtun 53-28.  Sedgwick County will look to their leaders to help them advance deep into the tournament.  Simla played a tough February schedule facing Merino, Salida, ECA, McClave, Burlington, Hoehne, and Calhan.  Simla is battle tested, and I can easily see them pulling the upset.  Simla played well at regionals defeating Loveland Classical 70-15 and Byers 56-21.  Honestly, I have switched this pick multiple times and if there is a game to watch at 7pm this will be the one.

Semifinal Round

#1 Merino over #5 Burlington

#2 Sanford over #3 Sedgwick County

Championship Saturday

#1 Merino over #2 Sanford (State Championship)

#3 Sedgwick County over #5 Burlington (3^rd Place)

#6 Simla over #13 Akron (5^th Place)

I think we are in for some AMAZING games In the Class 2A.  I think the 8 teams who reached the state tournament all have a different scenario on how they can hoist the State Championship.  I am very excited to see how everything boils down and I could easily see myself being way wrong, but I am excited for 3 great days of basketball.  Remember to follow the scores of the games check out our Facebook page & twitter.  We plan on having pictures posted on Facebook as well.  We will also have updates on the website as well.  Good Luck to all teams.
