THURSDAY

Sixth-ranked SkyView Academy has only been able to get two games played in the first three weeks of the season, but the Hawks have won both. They outscored those first two opponents by a combined tally of 46-6. Clay Cosart and Chris Gallegos are both hitting .857, with Gallegos knocking in a team-leading eight runs. Gage Baumann is one back. Tucker Corazzari earned the win in both games, and has recorded 13 strikeouts in eight innings.

Manual (#31) is 4-3, with wins in its last two. The Thunderbolts posted shutouts in both of those victories, and have goose eggs in three of their four dubs. Edgar Salas and Leo Zimmerman share the team lead in RBI with six apiece, and both have three XBH. For Salas, its a double and two triples, while all three of Zimmerman’s are doubles. Jesus Marquez has swiped 10 bases, three more than Salas. Zimmerman has worked 14.2 innings and punched out 39 hitters.

Front Range Christian (#16) hosts #22 Lyons in a Mile High league contest on Thursday. The Falcons have lost their last three games, including a tough 12-9 decision to 1A #1 Flatirons Academy on Tuesday. Four errors led to four unearned runs in the loss. Noah Angel had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.

Lyons is also looking to get back on track after dropping its last two contests. Leo Irvin doubled home two runs in a 13-3 loss to Platte Valley on Tuesday. The sophomore has nine RBI on the season. That leads the team, while Calvin Russell is next with seven. Zack LaCrosse and Jake LaCrosse have combined for just under 31 innings, with a total of 39 strikeouts between them.

FRIDAY

Swink (#12) takes a three-game slide into a Santa Fe doubleheader with #19 Crowley County, but the Lions nearly upset #1 Fowler on Wednesday. The Lions fell 7-6, with Fowler scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh. Nate Cabrera homered and doubled, driving in two runs. Thomas Valdez also had two RBI. Cabrera took the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the final frame.

The Chargers lost their first three games of the season, but have won two straight, including a 16-1 walloping of Florence on Wednesday. They were the beneficiary of eight Husky errors, plus six walks and two hit batters.

One of the highlights of the Platte Valley/Valley tournament is an opening round game between #10 Platte Valley and #17 Olathe. The hosting Broncos have won three in a row, the last being their 13-3 decision over Lyons. Hazen Weber, Cooper Moffatt, and Hudson Flummerfelt had three RBI apiece in that victory. Moffatt got the win after allowing three unearned runs in five innings.

The Pirates broke a two-game slide with a 15-5 win over Grand Valley on Tuesday, making the long trip east a little easier to take. A seven-run bottom of the first provided all the offense Evan Eddy would need, as the senior got the complete game victory. He helped his own cause with four RBI. Westan England added three.

Denver Christian also hosts a tournament this weekend, and the opening round has #5 Monte Vista squaring off against #21 Byers. The Pirates tuned up for the tourney with a 7-1 victory at #9 Las Animas on Tuesday. Kaden Mellott plated two runs in what was the third straight win for the Pirates. Those were in support of Kobe Jiron, who took the win by allowing an unearned run in five frames.

Byers ran out to a 4-1 start, but has lost its last two. Those losses were to SkyView Academy and #4 Limon. The Bulldogs committed five errors in the 13-5 loss to Limon, leading to six unearned runs. They were aggressive when getting on base, stealing 11 bases, three by Jack Earl. The Badgers stole 18.

SATURDAY

Along with all of the continuing tournaments, Saturday’s slate has #1 Fowler visiting #29 Burlington for a doubleheader. Las Animas goes to #7 Peyton, #11 St. Mary’s hosts Front Range Christian for two, and #8 Yuma visits #28 Sedgwick County for a doubleheader.
