Class 1A Baseball Regional Projections

Class 1A Baseball Regionals are done a bit different than the rest of the Classes. Class 1A still plays a district tournament with the district winner all qualifying for State. The district winners are seeded 1-5 with the top 4 district winner hosting regionals. If your district has more than 5 teams than they automatically qualify 2 teams. This season District 1, 2, 4, and 5 all automatically qualify 2 teams. The remaining 7 teams will be picked off the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index.

District Champions Predictions

District 1 Champion Prediction: Dove Creek (19)

District 1 Automatic Berth Prediction: Nucla (18)

Dove Creek is my pick with 15 days left in the regular season. They picked up a huge sweep of Sargent. They also already defeated Nucla once but still have a pair of games against Nucla. Dove Creek will also face Sierra Grande and La Veta this weekend and if they win both have either the #1 or #2 seed locked up in the District Tournament.

District 2 Champion Prediction: Simla (9)

District 1 Automatic Berth Prediction: ECA (16)

Simla is my pick to win the District Tournament. Simla opened up their district play with a sweep of Elbert on 4/10 but they really kick off their district play when they face Custer County tonight. Big games remain for Simla as they face Kiowa on 4/17 and ECA on 4/22.

District 3 Champion Prediction: Flatirons Academy (4)

Just two teams are in District 3 so the District Champion is the only automatic qualifier. Flatirons Academy is my pick to win the District. Flatirons Academy already defeated Rocky Mountain Lutheran on 3/29 17 to 2. Flatirons Academy will continue to be tested till the end of the year with a huge test tonight against Dayspring Christian.

District 4 Champion Prediction: Eads (3)

District 4 Automatic Berth: Holly (7)

Eads is my pick to win the district 4 championship and I have them facing Holly in the district finals to grab the automatic berth. This will be a fun battle and will come down to depth pitching so grabbing a higher seed in the district tournament will be key. Cheyenne Wells, McClave, and Stratton, I believe will also be in the mix to win the district crown.

District 5 Champion: Haxtun (1)

District 5 Automatic Berth: Akron (2)

Haxtun is my pick to win the District 5 tournament. I have Haxtun facing Akron in the district championship but I could easily see Merino in that spot as well. District 5 should be very competitive and you should see this District have some at-large qualifiers into the regional field. Otis is also another contender to keep an eye on as they sit at 11-3 on the season currently.
