
CLASS 1A BASEBALL REPORT – TUESDAY

Monday saw a lot of top teams pick up big wins, and Tuesday’s slate will give even more opportunities as teams jockey for spots in the postseason. With almost half of the field being selected by the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index, remaining in the top-16 is of major importance. The rankings in this report are from Tuesday’s release of that metric.

MONDAY
Top-ranked Haxtun swept a doubleheader from 2A Sedgwick County (11-1, 17-4), keeping its grasp on the #1 spot in the Index. Merino, #4 in the Index, got a bit 12-2 win over #9 Simla, and #6 Otis took a 19-8 win on the road over #10 McClave. Prairie (#14) kept 2A Holyoke winless, sweeping the Dragons 10-0 and 19-9. Sitting just inside the bubble, #15 Caliche grabbed a 17-10 win over #22 Peetz.
TUESDAY
#2 AKRON VS 2A HOLYOKE
Caleb Poss and Mason Porteus both had four RBI in a 26-4 win over Caliche in the first game of a doubleheader last Friday, while Alex Bowin and Tucker Stahn added three apiece. Bowin tallied four more in the 14-1 game two victory. Holyoke did not record a hit in the 10-0 loss to Prairie on Monday, and only had one runner reach bases
#3 EADS VS #13 STRATTON
Adyn Hough tossed a three-hit shutout in Eads’ 6-0 win over 3A Harrison last Saturday, and recorded as many hits as he allowed. Johnathan Vasquez had a double, triple, and three RBI in a 9-3 win over #16 Evangel Christian later in the day. Stratton split a DH with #12 Cheyenne Wells on Saturday, dropping the opener 12-6 and then getting an 8-7 walk-off in the sixth inning of game two. Dillon Brent had three RBI in the victory.
#4 MERINO AT 2A HIGHLAND
Merino benefited from five Simla errors in its 12-2 win on Monday. That was the fourth straight victory for the Rams. John Bingley threw a one-hit shutout for Highland in a 15-0 win over Holyoke on Saturday, and the Huskies completed the sweep with a 21-2 win in game two. Sawyer Morgan went 3-3 with a triple and a home run, driving in four.
#5 FLATIRONS ACADEMY AT 2A #1 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN
Flatirons suffered its second loss in three games, falling 7-3 against Haxtun last Saturday. The Bison were held to four singles, one apiece from Micah Doughty, Conner Odell, Caleb Doughty, and Dillon Sauer. DCA had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Saturday by 2A #4 Forge Christian, 6-2. The Eagles committed four errors in the loss. Gavin Bohl had the lone RBI in the game for Dayspring Christian.
