CLASS 2A BASEBALL REPORT – TUESDAY

A big week of action across 2A got underway with a busy Monday slate. The schedule included a top-five showdown, and several other top teams were also in action. The rankings in this report are from Tuesday morning’s release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

1A #5 FLATIRONS ACADEMY AT 2A #1 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN

Flatirons suffered its second loss in three games, falling 7-3 against Haxtun last Saturday. The Bison were held to four singles, one apiece from Micah Doughty, Conner Odell, Caleb Doughty, and Dillon Sauer. DCA had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Saturday by 2A #4 Forge Christian, 6-2. The Eagles committed four errors in the loss. Gavin Bohl had the lone RBI in the game for Dayspring Christian.

#3 YUMA AT #17 WRAY

Yuma overcame a 3-0 deficit against #12 Platte Valley to take a 10-3 win last Saturday. Lennox Huwa helped spark the rally with his first home run of the season. Brodie Kallweit came up a third of an inning away from notching the complete game victory. Wray split a DH with #28 Burlington on Saturday, with the Eagles winning the opener 9-2 and falling 8-2 in the second game. Gabe Kechter had a two-run homer in game one, and Carson Helling went 3-4 with three runs scored.

#6 DENVER CHRISTIAN AT #4 FORGE CHRISTIAN

This is the back end of a home-and-home series, which saw Forge Christian grab a 10-3 win on the road last Saturday. Jonah Boykin picked up three RBI for the Fury, and Brock Wycoff added two. Wycoff also earned the win with six innings of one-run ball. He punched out 10. Patrick Elson doubled and scored two runs for Denver Christian. Mason Reilly struck out seven in 5.2 innings, but also issued six walks.

#5 LIMON AT #28 BURLINGTON

Limon saw its scoreless streak end at 29 innings in a 10-9 win over #19 Estes Park on Saturday. The Badgers won that in nine innings, walking off to complete the DH sweep of the Bobcats. Braxten Churchwell scored the only run in a 1-0 shutout in game one, and he scored two more in game two, while also recording two RBI. Brody Scherrer also had two RBI in the nightcap. Daxton Skarpohl was strong in relief for the Cougars on Saturday, allowing two runs over 5.2 innings, striking out seven. Burlington got three RBI from Darian McDonough, including a two-run bomb, in the 9-2 win over Wray.
