
CLASS 2A BASEBALL REPORT – WEEKEND

Before we can take a look at the key match-ups on this weekend’s slate of game, we need to look back at the top games from Thursday. The Class 2A rankings in this report are from the latest release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

THURSDAY
Fifteenth-ranked Front Range Christian pulled off a sizable upset, getting a 4-3 win over #2 Dayspring Christian with two runs in the top of the seventh. Nate McInturff doubled and drove in three runs for the victorious Falcons. Owen Steward and Sawyer Klein had an RBI apiece for DCA.
Cedaredge (#5) swept a DH from Centauri, 14-0 and 11-8. Colten Hutto got the five inning no-hitter in the first game, walking two and striking out 11. He also hit two batters. Rylan Brooks scored three runs and drove in three more in game two.
Yuma (#6) and #18 Wiggins split a doubleheader, with the Outlaws winning 12-11 in the opener and Wiggins taking game two by a 13-8 count. Silas Baucke drilled his second home run of the season and drove in four for the Outlaws in the first game. Arath Carrazco tripled and had three RBI for the Tigers. Wiggins plated seven runs in the seventh to get the come-from-behind victory in the second game, with Carrazco and Isaac Flores both driving in three runs. Jesus Rodriguez hit his first career homer for Yuma.
FRIDAY
#5 CEDAREDGE AT 1A #18 SARGENT
Sargent broke a three-game slide with a 7-3 win over Sierra Grande on Tuesday. Landon Velazquez had two doubles and scored two runs for the Farmers, while Tytus Atencio stole four bases.
SATURDAY
#1 FORGE CHRISTIAN VS 3A #10 PROSPECT RIDGE ACADEMY
Forge Christian hammered its 3A opponent in the front end of a home-and-home series on Thursday, 15-1. Burke Jasa had a huge day, going 4-4 with a double and six RBI. Ben McLean and Brock Wycoff combined on the two-hitter. The loss was the third in five games for the Miners.
#12 HIGHLAND AT #22 WRAY (DH)
Highland pushed its winning streak to four with a solid 4-2 victory over 1A #4 Merino on Tuesday. The Huskies took the lead for good with a three-spot in the fifth. John Bingley delivered his second home run of the season, plating two runs. He also collected the save, coming on to relieve Stetson Hendren, who gave up two earned runs in five innings to get the win. Wray dropped its second straight on Tuesday, falling to in-county rival Yuma by a 5-4 count. It was the second one-run loss for the Eagles against Yuma this season. Gabe Kechter had a double, a RBI, and two stolen bases, while Gage Waitman scored twice.
