
CLASS 1A BASEBALL REPORT – TUESDAY

With districts rapidly approaching for Class 1A, the schedule sees a number of critical match-up on an almost daily basis. We take a look at some of those for Tuesday. All rankings are from Tuesday morning’s release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

TUESDAY
#7 SIMLA AT #12 EVANGEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Simla got a big 7-4 win over #5 Flatirons Academy on Saturday, with Wyatt Stanko and TJ Eurich both going 2-4. Both of Stanko’s hits went for extra bases, with a double and a triple. ECA also had a strong non-league win late last week, with a 7-3 decision over #11 Rocky Mountain Lutheran. Levi Alexander went 4-4 with two stolen bases. He also picked up the win, snapping a three-game losing streak by the Eagles.
#8 HOLLY AT 2A #12 SWINK
Holly pushed its winning streak to eight with a 13-2 defeat of #14 Cheyenne Wells on Friday. Devin Eaton and Edson Noriega had four hits apiece, with Eaton scoring four runs and Noriega driving in three. Truman King added his fourth home run of the season. It was his 13th career dinger, all in the last three years. Nate Cabrera and Noah Pearson combined to one-hit Manzanola in three innings last Thursday for Swink. Eight of the nine outs recorded were by way of strikeout. Landon Mills and Nick Paolucci both drove in four, with Mills homering. Luke Hanagan also went deep for the Lions.
#11 ROCKY MOUNTAIN LUTHERAN AT 2A #2 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN
The Eagles followed up last week’s tough loss to ECA with an 11-0 win over Briggsdale on Monday. Blake Harris gave up two hits and struck out 14 in the five-inning shutout. Gavin Borchardt helped out by going 2-2 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Dayspring Christian fell 4-3 to #14 Front Range Christian on Thursday for its second loss in three games. Josiah Rodriguez and Owen Steward had two hits apiece in the defeat. Steward was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) in three innings of relief.
#20 NUCLA AT 2A #24 IGNACIO (DH)
Nucla had a five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday by #10 La Veta, 11-8. After building an 8-3 lead, the Mustangs gave up five in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the loss. Paxtin Caruso went 3-4 with two RBI, and two runs scored for the Mustangs. Ignacio has been off since sweeping a DH against #18 Dove Creek (14-10, 10-8) last Monday. The Bobcats collected 12 XBH in the sweep, including nine doubles, two triples, and a home run. They’ve scored double digits in their last four games. Nucla handed the Bobcats their last loss, a 4-3 decision two weeks ago. The Mustangs scored three runs over the final two frames for the walk-off victory.
