
CLASS 2A BASEBALL REPORT – TUESDAY

Several of Tuesday’s top contests have teams from 2A squaring off against opponents from either 1A or 3A. We break down some of those clashes, with the rankings coming from the Tuesday morning release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

TUESDAY
1A #11 ROCKY MOUNTAIN LUTHERAN AT #2 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN
Dayspring Christian fell 4-3 to #14 Front Range Christian on Thursday for its second loss in three games. Josiah Rodriguez and Owen Steward had two hits apiece in the defeat. Steward was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) in three innings of relief.
Rocky Mountain Lutheran followed up last week’s tough 7-3 loss to Evangel Christian Academy with an 11-0 win over Briggsdale on Monday. Blake Harris gave up two hits and struck out 14 in the five-inning shutout. Gavin Borchardt helped out by going 2-2 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored.
#6 DENVER CHRISTIAN VS 3A #12 PEAK TO PEAK
Denver Christian broke a two-game skid with a 13-3 win over 3A #24 The Academy last Thursday. Tied after four, the Thunder struck for six in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away. Caleb Stork went 3-4 with two doubles, while James Lord (4) and Trey Speir (3) combined for seven RBI. Mason Reilly gave up three earned over six to get the victory.
The Pumas snapped their own two-game losing streak in their last contest, taking a 12-5 win over 3A #18 Kent Denver last Thursday. Owen Branscum homered twice and drove in four for Peak to Peak, It was the second time this season the senior has gone deep twice in a game, giving him a total of six home runs in his career.
1A #8 HOLLY AT #12 SWINK
Nate Cabrera and Noah Pearson combined to one-hit Manzanola in three innings last Thursday for Swink. Eight of the nine outs recorded were by way of strikeout. Landon Mills and Nick Paolucci both drove in four, with Mills homering. Luke Hanagan also went deep for the Lions.
Holly pushed its winning streak to eight with a 13-2 defeat of #14 Cheyenne Wells on Friday. Devin Eaton and Edson Noriega had four hits apiece, with Eaton scoring four runs and Noriega driving in three. Truman King added his fourth home run of the season. It was his 13th career dinger, all in the last three years.
#15 LYONS VS 3A #8 BRUSH
Lyons snapped a two-game slide with wins over Estes Park and Clear Creek last week. The latter victory (9-2) saw Leo Irvin go 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jake LaCrosse added a triple, two RBI, and two runs. LaCrosse also earned the win, striking out 17 in 6.2 scoreless frames of relief.
Brush enters the contest off an 11-1 loss to 3A #1 University on Wednesday of last week. Malachi Thiel drove in the lone run for the Beetdiggers, and Landon Mesch went 2-3 with a double. Five Brush errors led to six unearned runs.
