CLASS 2A BASEBALL REPORT – THURSDAY

Another busy Thursday brings a full slate of top match-ups in Class 2A. There are a couple top-10 pairings, including the back end of a home-and-home featuring a highly-ranked 3A program. All rankings are from Thursday morning’s release of the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

#1 FORGE CHRISTIAN AT 3A #2 COLORADO ACADEMY

Leading 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth on Tuesday, the Fury added a pair of insurance runs to beat Colorado Academy 5-2. Ben McLean had two hits for Forge Christian, and Jonah Boykin added an RBI triple, as the Fury won for the 11th straight time. Brock Wycoff gave up two earned on five hits over seven innings to earn the win. Wildness impacted CA starter Kieran Delaney, who walked 10 and threw five wild pitches in 4.2 innings. He drove in one of the Mustangs’ runs and scored the other.

#2 DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN AT #25 BISHOP MACHEBEUF (DH)

Josiah Rodriguez homered and drove in four runs for Dayspring Christian in Tuesday’s 14-2 win over #20 Dawson School. Gage Davis, the recipient of the run support, allowed two earned on five hits in five innings to collect the win. Two of the hits allowed left the park. Bishop Machebeuf got a big 6-3 win over #13 Front Range Christian on Tuesday, with Matthew Menke doubling twice and driving in three runs. Jack Menke and Miles Edgar scored two runs apiece.

#5 YUMA AT #6 LIMON

Yuma plated 36 runs in a DH sweep of Holyoke last Saturday, winning the opener 20-2 and getting a 16-0 three-hit shutout in game two. Marvin Duarte (3) and Lennox Huwa (2) combined for five RBI in game one, and Stevie Steward stole four bases. Silas Baucke and Jose Ross combined on the shutout in the nightcap. Christian Thomson had four RBI in that contest. Quinten Blatnick hit his first career homer in Limon’s 7-1 win over #12 Las Animas on Tuesday. That victory snapped a three-game slide for the Badgers. Camden Tacha added three RBI.

#7 DENVER CHRISTIAN AT 3A #18 KENT DENVER

Denver Christian snapped its own three-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over Kent Denver in the front end of a home-and-home series. James Lord struck out a dozen in the no-hitter for the Thunder. Nate Bovasso led the offense with three RBI. Jack Wilson reached base twice for the Sun Devils, drawing a pair of walks.

#9 CEDAREDGE AT #22 IGNACIO

The Bruins swept a doubleheader against Center (15-0, 15-8) on Wednesday, giving them 16 wins in their last 16 outings. Ignacio had an eight-game winning streak broken on Tuesday, with the Bobcats dropping a 6-2 decision to 3A Bayfield. The Bobcats committed seven errors, leading to all but one of the runs being unearned.

#10 PLATTE VALLEY VS 3A #1 UNIVERSITY

After two straight wins over highly-ranked 3A teams, Platte Valley dropped a 10-5 decision to 3A #9 Sterling in nine innings on Tuesday. The Broncos scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Platte Valley was limited to just three hits, two by Dagan Gomez, who drove in two runs. University ran its winning streak to seven with a 4-1victory over 3A #23 Valley on Tuesday. Max Davis went 1-2 with a double, a walk, and two RBI for the Bulldogs. Will Korby stuck out 11 in the two-hitter, and the run allowed was unearned.

#13 FRONT RANGE CHRISTIAN AT #20 DAWSON SCHOOL

Front Range Christian had won five straight prior to the 6-3 loss to Bishop Machebeuf on Tuesday. The difference in the contest was a three-run fourth for the Buffaloes. Haedan Morton took the loss despite striking out 10 in five innings. Five of the six runs he allowed were unearned due to five Falcon errors. Milo Richtel hit a pair of solo home runs to account for all of Dawson School’s scoring in the 14-2 loss to Dayspring Christian. The sophomore has four dingers on the season.
