Class 1A Baseball Regional Predictions
If you have been following MileHigh Prep Report since we started, you know how much we like doing our predictions even if we catch slack. Just know we are not cheering against any teams, and we are proven wrong all the time. We enjoy putting the predictions out there and look forward to seeing the results of the games. Biggest thing is Good Luck to all 16 teams and leave it all on the diamond.

Region 1 at Akron HS
#1 Akron over #16 Sargent
#8 Otis over #9 Holly
Regional Finals
#1 Akron over #8 Otis
Otis has proven they can play with the top teams. They had Haxtun on the brink during the District Tournament but will need to clean up errors. Holly was upset in the Semifinals by Cheyenne Wells and will look to bounce back. Holly will lean on their top pitcher to try and advance. Sargent has a pair of wins over regional teams in La Veta and Nucla. Their top pitchers can make things interesting for the Farmers. Akron is the top team with tons of pitching depth. Akron has also proven to win either high scoring games or pitching duels.
Region 2 at Simla
#4 Simla over #13 La Veta
#5 Nucla over #12 Rocky Mountain Lutheran
Regional Finals
#4 Simla over #5 Nucla
La Veta had a great record this season and has a proven Ace who will look to power them to a first round upset. Rocky Mountain Lutheran is in a similar boat with a proven Ace, and he will also look to lock down the #5 seed and snag the upset. Nucla has turned it on to end the season picking up big wins over La Veta, Dove Creek, and Sargent. Nucla also has a proven Ace plus is a traditional power in the 1A ranks. Simla end the season on a 9-game winning streak including wins over Flatirons Academy and Otis. Simla has depth at pitching plus a true #1 and they have only scored less than 4 runs once this season and that was against Merino back in April.
Region 3 at Flatirons Academy
#3 Flatirons Academy over #14 Caliche
#6 Haxtun over #11 McClave
Regional Finals
#6 Haxtun over #3 Flatirons Academy
Caliche comes into regional falling in the opening round of the District Tournament to Otis. Caliche has shown at times they can contend with tops teams and have the pitching depth. Caliche will look for their top arms to try and upset Flatirons Academy. McClave fell in the Semifinals of the district tournament to Eads. McClave has the #1 to challenge any top teams and will make things interesting against Haxtun in the opening round. Flatirons Academy had to win just one game to clinch a hosting spot at regionals and took care of business against Rocky Mountain Lutheran. Flatirons Academy has played a difficult schedule playing against a heavy 2A schedule. Flatirons Academy has some pitching depth and that will be beneficial when playing in a tough region. Haxtun finished second in their district tournament, falling to Akron 17-12. Haxtun does have pitching depth but will need to limit walks and errors to avoid being upset in the opening round and to try and knock off the #3 seed. Haxtun played a difficult schedule so they have shown they have depth in their pitching staff and can score runs.
Region 4
#2 Eads over #15 Elbert
#7 Merino over #10 Cheyenne Wells
Regional Finals
#7 Merino over #2 Eads
Elbert punched their ticket to regionals upsetting ECA in the district tournament, 7 to 4. Elbert will be looking to knock off the #2 seed and will lean on their #1 to knock off Eads. Cheyenne Wells has continued to improve this season and with the upset of Holly in the district tournament look to be peaking at the right time. Cheyenne Wells seems to have found their #1 and he will look to shut down a top team in Class 1A. Eads ran the table this season going 18-0. Eads played just one team not in Class 1A and that was 3A Harrison (6-14) and won 6 to 0. Eads has two of the top pitchers in Class 1A with both their #1 & #2 pitchers having a sub 1.000 ERA, but Eads does not have a lot of depth behind those two. Merino fell in the District Semifinals to #1 Akron, 3 to 2. Merino has depth pitching to matchup with most teams as they have four pitchers with ERA less than 4. Merino will look to knock off the #2 team but also must avoid the upset from Cheyenne Wells.
