Class 3A Softball Weekly Preview, Week 1

As the 2025 softball season gets underway, we take a look at the top 16 teams that made it into the state tournament last season. We will see how their seasons are starting, upcoming opponents and who we will expect to see on the field for each team this season.

Eaton

Eaton, the defending state champions, fell in their first game to Wellington 8-9, which was not the way the team wanted to start their season. The team will be looking for redemption and to keep that as their only loss on their record this season as they will be facing Peak to Peak and Laram 8/22, Meeker and La Junta on 8/23, and Berthoud on 8/26. The team will be looking for some momentum to find some more success like they have had the last few seasons. Returning for the Eaton Reds this season and on the stat board after the first game are Kenzie Braddy, Emma Anderson, Isabella Ramsey, Bria Foster, Brooklyn Minne, and Johanna Galvan.

Strasburg

The Indians started their season with a 0-1 start and a loss to Elizabeth 0-12. Strasburg will be looking to switch their luck around and get some wins before they head into next week. The team will play Fort Lupton and Rocky Ford on 8/22 and Delta and Lamar on 8/23 and will be looking to get as many possible wins out of these games. Returning for the team and on the stat board after one game are Addi Kent, Madi Olsen, Phebe Johnson, Payton Weaver, and Savanah Bradley.

University

The University Bulldogs finished as the state runner-up last season with a loss to Eaton 6-8. University will be looking to have another strong and successful season this year and have already earned a win over Berthoud 12-6. Coming up for the Bulldogs, they will face Limon and Delta on 8/22, Lamar and Rocky Ford on 8/23, and Roosevelt next week on 8/26. Returning for University this season and already on the stat board are Kamzee Kern, Jasi Cole, Kendall Dietz, Sydney Goetzel, Natalie Galindo, Emma Zacheis, and Lily Marquez.

Lamar

The Thunder starts their season with a 0-1 start with a loss to Guymon 2-10. Lamar will be looking to switch their momentum and get some wins this weekend as they will be facing Meeker and Eaton on 8/22, University and Strasburg on 8/23, and Wray/Yuma and Burlington on 8/26. Returning for the Thunder this season and making their way to stat leaders are Alexa Aguilar, Khloe Fernandez, Toryn Neugebauer, Carlin Weber, Natalie Aguilar, Alexus Campbell, and Jolie Garcia.

Southeast Colorado

Southeast Colorado opens their season with a game against Sierra where the Angels got the win 22-1. As the top team in the Tri-Peaks league last season, the team will be looking to carry their success form last year into this season and make the State Tournament again. The Angels will be taking this week to get some work in and then will open next week with a game against Guymon at home on 8/25. Returning for the Angels this season will be Hailey Pearson, Anna Wollert, Maddie Wertz, Kara Wilson, Bailey Sierra, Zoe Martinez, Lexi Shotton, Dixie Bitner, Kennedy Gyurman, Laila Garcia, Savanna Brown, and Lily Hollis.

Rocky Ford

The Meloneers kick off their season with a loss Lyons 5-13, giving their record a start of 0-1. Rocky Ford will be looking to bounce back and win some games and improve their record. The team will be facing Peak to Peak and Strasburg on 8/22,  and Weld Central and University on 8/23. Retuning for the Meloneers are Alysia Marquez, Alexis Baca, Annesyiah Camacho, Benni Martinez, Na’Kayla Aguilar, Brilye Lovato, Kassidy Kurt, Tay’Lor Archuleta, and Kendra Rodriguez.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian played their first game this week against Resurrection Christian where they were able to get the win 15-3 to start their season off. The Fury will be looking to continue their great start and their previous seasons’ success as they will take on several teams this weekend, starting with Burlington and Alamosa on 8/22 and Valley and Holyoke on 8/23. Returning for the Fury this year and already making moves for the stat leaderboard are Julianna Alfaro, Bailey Vogel, Maxine Rossi, Kaedence Miller, Eliana Castillo, Honor Kuyper and Rio Beck.

Lyons

Lyons start their season off strong with a 2-0 record with wins over Silver Creek 11-0 and Rocky Form 13-5. The Lions lost in the quarterfinals last season to Eaton and will be looking to have another successful season this year. The next few games for Lyons, they will be facing Moffat County and Skyline on 8/23, Longmont on 8/25 and Wellington on 8/26. Already on the stat board this season and returning for the Lions are Gretta Wynja, Autum Johnsey, Dahlia Oviatt, and Ava Vasquez.

Wellington

Wellington has a very strong start to their 2025 season with a win over the defending state champions in Eaton 9-8. The Eagles will be looking to continue their momentum and find success all season and get back to the state tournament. Wellington will face Lyons on 8/26 next week and will be chasing a 2-0 start. Returning for the team and on the stat board so far this season are Scarlet McGuire, Kiley Newberry, Kensley Story, Camryn Strain, Charley Somday, Taylor Morgan Alanna Sandlian, Reganne Johnson, and Bethany Lalicker.

The Academy

The Wildcats have had a busy week and start to their season with 4 games already played and a season start of 1-3. The Academy has faced and lost to Denver North 2-13, and 7-8, and Niwot 3-13 but was able to get the victory over Northglenn 8-7. This week will remain busy for the Wildcats as they will take on Wray/Yuma and Platte Valley on 8/22 and Woodland Park and Greeley Central on 8/23 before a small break. Returning players for the team and on the stat leaderboard are Keara Pogue, Leyla Martin, Ali Velasquez and Emma Burris.

Alamosa

Alamosa starts their season on the road against Durango and unfortunately for the Moose, fell to them 5-6. Alamosa will be looking to recover and get a few wins before the weekend is over as they will face Holyoke and Forge Christian on 8/22 and Burlington and Valley on 8/23. The Moose will then host Pueblo Centennial on 8/26 and will be looking to have more wins on their record this time next week.

The Classical Academy

The Titans start their season with a win over Canon City 12-4. TCA will face Canon City again on 8/21 and will be looking to get another win and continue their success. The team will then be looking for another win over Peak to Peak to start next week on 8/25 and Cheyenne Mountain on 8/29. Retuning for the team and already on the Titans stat board are Ada Wilson, Taytum Kimbro, Khaiyah Bacon and Asher Murphy.

Resurrection Christian

With three games already under their belt, Resurrection Christian starts their season with a 1-2 start with losses to Thornton 5-8 and Forge Christian 3-15, but a win over Mountain View 17-2. Friday the Cougars will be looking to carry that momentum in a double header against Middle Park and will be fighting for a 3-2 record. Retuning for the team and already finding their spots on the stat board are Olivia Martinez, Taylor Francis, and Savannah Johnson,

Montezuma-Cortez

The Panthers are off to a slower start than what they would like of 0-4. The team lost their first four games to Cedaredge 2-21 and 6-16 and Gunnison 2-13 and 12-22. Montezuma-Cortez luckily is taking some time to work on things before their next game which will be on 8/26 against Durango. The team will be looking to improve their record and keep the success from last season going into this season. Returning for the team this season and on their stat board to start the season are Jayden White, Afton Unrein, Chelsey Kramer, Ava Hawkins, Tori Lopez, Ellisia Winter, Faith Muzzy, Raegan Veach, and Paislee Mestas.

La Junta

The Tigers have not played a game but will kick off their season against Limon and Weld Central on 8/22. They will then face Peak to Peak and Eaton on 8/23 and Limon again on 8/26. La Junta will be looking for some wins and to carry last seasons success into this season.

Brush

The Beetdiggers have not played a game yet but will be playing their first game of the season tomorrow against Northfield and Mountain View and Fountain-Fort Carson on 8/23.  Brush will be looking to start off with a win and carry their success from last season into this year. Returning for the Brush Beetdiggers are Angelique Schrum, Gracie Martinez, Emry Chard, Jolie Tuck, Kyleigh Greenwood, Sidney Miller, Elizabeth Peckham, Haedynn Epple, Paige Osier and Jada Shum.
