Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

This week we dive into the top 16 MaxPreps teams as the season gets underway. We will look at how the first few games have gone for these teams, what games they have upcoming, and the players who are starting to stand out on stat board.

Southeast Colorado

The Southeast Colorado Angels started their season with a dominant win over Sierra 22-1. The team has a quiet week this week and to start the next and will face Eaton on 9/5. The Angels will play a few games before they start league play on 9/11 against Alamosa where they will try and defend their spot at the top of the Tri-Peaks League.

Wellington

Wellington continues to beat tough opponents so far with wins of Eaton 9-8 and Lyons 7-4, showing that they are looking to get back to the state tournament at the end of the season. The Eagles will be looking to add to their 2-0 record on 8/28 and will face The Academy on the road. The team will then end the week with a road game against Berthoud and then will kick off next week at home against Severance.

 After two games, leaders on the stat board are Camryn Strain (Jr) with 2 stolen bases. 2 runs, 2 hits, and 2 RBI, Kiley Newberry (Jr) with 1 stolen base, 2 runs, and 2 RBI, Charley Somday (Jr) with 1 stolen base, Taylor Morgan (Sr) with a 4.0 ERA, Scarlet McGuire (Jr) with 4 hits and 2 RBI, Kensley Story (Sr) with 4 runs and 4 hits, and Camryn Strain with 2 runs, 2 hits and 2 RBI.

The Classical Academy

TCA starts their season with large margin wins over Canon City 12-4 and 12-6 and against Peak to Peak 16-3 to start off with a 3-0 record. The Titans will be looking to keep their perfect record going this week as they will take on Cheyenne Mountain on Friday 8/29 at home. Next week the team will start their week off on the road against Rampart on 9/3.

Stat leaders for TCA so far this season are Ada Wilson (Jr) with 1 home run, 2 stolen bases, a 3.50 ERA, 7 runs, 7 hits, and 5 RBI, Khaiyah Bacon (Sr) with 1 home run, 2 stolen baes, and 7 runs, Taytum Kimbro (So) with 2 stolen bases, 5 runs, 6 hits, and 4 RBI, Basil Murphy (Fr) with a 4.67 ERA, Ashlyne Cramer (Jr) with 5 hits and Carina Passarelli (Fr) with 6 RBI.

Kennedy

Kennedy starts their season off with a win over Jefferson Academy in a close battle of 15-14 to give the commanders a 1-0 start. Kennedy will be looking to maintain their record this week as they will be facing Thronton today on the road, and then with will be playing at Fountain Ft. Carson against a few opponents, including Pueblo East on 9/29, and Air Academy and Canon City on 8/30.

Brush

Brush begins their season with a 3-0 start, getting wins over Northfield 14-8, Mountain View 10-7, and Fountain Fort Carson 10-0. The Beetdiggers are going to be looking to keep adding to their perfect record this week as they will face Mountain Vista and Highlands on 8/29 and Lyons on 9/3.

Leading Brush so far this season are Jolie Tuck (So) with 4 stolen bases, 4 runs, and 6 hits, Isabella Mesch (Fr) with 2 stolen bases, Gracie Martinez (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, and 6 runs, Emry Chard (So) with a 1.40 ERA, Elizabeth Peckham (So) with a 2.55 ERA, Tatim Chard (Fr) with 5 runs, Izabella Talmich (Fr) with 6 hits and 7 RBI, Jada Shum (Jr) with 6 hits and 3 RBI and Angelique Schrum (Sr) with 4 RBI.

University

The Bulldogs start off their season with a perfect 6-0 record, getting wins over Berthoud 12-6, Limon 24-0, Delta 17-1, Lamar 5-1, Rocky Ford 12 -3 and Roosevelt 9-6.University will be looking to keep their perfect record through the weekend and will be playing Northridge on 8/28, Limon on 8/30, and Sterling in the first Patriot league game on 9/2.

Leading the University Bulldogs so far this season on the stat board are Natalie Galindo (Sr) with 3 home runs, 10 runs, and 12 RBI, Jocelyn Chacon (Jr) with 2 home runs and 10 RBI, Jasi Cole (Sr) with 2 home runs, 4 stolen bases, a 0.0 ERA, 11 runs, 9 hits, and 8 RBI, Emma Zacheis (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, Kenzie Wyatt (Jr) with 1 stolen base, 10 runs, and 12 hits, and Sydney Goetzel (Sr) with a 5.25 ERA, and 9 hits.

Cedaredge

The Bruins are off to a 5-0 start, which includes a 4-0 league start in the Western Slope league. Cedaredge beat Montezuma-Cortez 21-2 and 16-6, Palisade 10-5, and Basalt 13-1 and 18-8. The team will be looking to continue their success this week as they will take on Durango on 8/29 on the road. They will then come home to host Delta next week in another league game on 9/3 where they will be looking to keep their 1st place start in the Western Slope League.

Leading the teams stats so far this season are Tia Homedew (Jr) with 2 home runs, 5 stolen bases, a 2.69 ERA, 11 runs, 11 hits, and 15 RBI, Meri Hollembeak (So) with 1 home tun, and 13 runs, Kiera Stroh (Jr) with 4 stolen bases, 17 runs, and 9 RBI, Kimbry Hebert (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Jewel Laliberte (Sr) with 10 hits, and Mia Gallegos (Fr) with 9 hits and 13 RBI.

Eaton

Eaton gets into their season with a 5-1 record. The Reds lost their first game to Wellington 8-9 but has bounced back and got wins over Peak to Peak 17-0, Lamar 12-1, Meeker 24-0, La Junta 12-1 and Berthoud 10-0. Eaton will be looking to keep their winning momentum going and will be playing against Severance on 8/28 at home and then they will also host Strasburg next week on 9/2.

Stat leaders for Eaton so far this season are Emma Anderson (Jr) with 3 home runs, 4 stolen bases, 13 runs, 13 hits and 12 RBI, Johanna Galvan (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 0.79 ERA, 10 hits, and 10 RBI, Paige Edelman (Fr) with 2 home runs, Paige Hofer (Fr) with 5 stolen bases, Kenzie Braddy (So) with 4 stolen baes and 9 runs, Bria Foster (Jr) with a 0.00 ERA, 13 hits and 12 RBI, and Brooklyn Minne (Sr) with 10 runs.

Lyons

Lyons was on track for having a perfect record, starting their season with wins over Silver Creek 11-0, Rocky Ford 13-5, Moffat County 12-0 and 26-0, and Longmont 5-4, but lost their most recent game against Wellington 4-7 to give them an overall record of 5-1. The Lions will be looking to continue adding to the win column of their record and will be facing Limon on 8/28 on the road, then will be playing their first league game on 9/2 against Resurrection Christian at home and then will host Brush on 9/3.

Stat leaders so far this season for Lyons are Gretta Wynja (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 2.33 ERA, 9 runs, 10 hits, and 15 RBI, Dahlia Oviatt (So) with 1 home runs, 2 stolen bases, 8 hits, and 9 RBI, Autumn Johnsey (Jr) with 1 home run, 2 stolen bases, 9 runs, 9 hits, and 9 RBI, Taylor Dickes (Fr) with 2 stolen bases, and Ava Vasquez (Jr) with 11 runs.

Forge Christian

Forge Christian gets into the flow of their season with a 5-1 start, getting wins over Resurrection Christian 15-3, Burlington to 23-0, Valley 12-2, Holyoke 15-0, and Mullen 12-11, but fell to Alamosa 9-5. The Fury will be looking to add more wins to their record this week with a game today against Peak to Peak in a league game, Bennet on 8/28, Wray/Yuma on 8/30, and then will play next week against Platte Valley on 9/2 and Green Mountain 9/3.

Leading the team so far this season for the team are Maxine Rossi (Jr) with 6 stolen bases, 11 runs, and 12 hits, Rio Beck (Sr) with 6 stolen Bases, 16 runs, and 13 hits, Julianna Alfaro (Jr) with 4 stolen bases, a 6.20 ERA, 11 hits, and 12 RBI, Kaedence Miller (Jr) with 10 runs and 8 RBI, and Honor Kuyper (Sr) with 13 RBI.

La Junta

The Tigers start their season with a 4-1 overall record, getting wins over Limon 14-2 and 11-9, Weld Central 10-4, and Peak and Peak 11-9. Their lone loss so far was against Eaton 1-12 last week. The team will be looking to continue winning this week and will be taking on Burlington on 8/28 and Pueblo Centennial on 8/30, both at home.

Stat leaders for La Junta after 5 games are Rylie Ortiz (So) with 1 home run and 2 RBI, Isabelle Aragon (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, and a 0.00 ERA, Ayanna Torrez (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, Marli Gonzales (Jr) with 2 stolen bases and 2 RBI, Chloe Numez (So) with 2 runs, 1 hit and 1 RBI, Ramie Gonzales (Jr) with 2 runs and 2 hits, Natalya Herrera (Jr) with 2 runs, and Natalya Herrera (Jr) with 2 runs.

Strasburg

Strasburg lost their first game against Elizabeth 0-12 but was able to come back and have won their last four games against Rocky Ford 11-10, Fort Lupton 22-4, Delta 9-8, and Lamar 12-10, giving the Indians a 4-1 start. The team will be looking to add more wins to their record and will be facing Gunnison and Rocky Ford on 8/30, and Eaton on 9/2.

Leading the stat board for Strasburg so far are Addi Kent (Jr) with 3 home runs, 11 runs, 10 hits, and 12 RBI, Payton Weaver (Jr) with 1 home run, 5 stolen bases, 7 hits, and 9 RBI, Rachel Rupple (Sr) with 4 stolen bases and 7 hit, Madi Olsen (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Phebe Johnson (Jr) with a 9.74 ERA, Wynne Winter (Jr) with 9 runs and 6 RBI, and Paisley Selle (So) with 7 runs.

Platte Valley

The Broncos have played 4 games so far this season and are currently 3-1 with wins over Greeley Central 20-0, Woodland Park 12-8, and Wray/Yuma 8-7, and lost to The Academy 10-9. Platte Valley will be looking to add more wins to their record this week and will be taking on Basalt and Eagle Valley on 8/29. The team will then play Forge Christian next week on 9/2.

Stat leaders for the Broncos so far this season are Alyssa Kendrick (Fr) with 1 home run, a 7.97 ERA, 7 runs, 6 hits, and 10 RBI, Haylee Bauer (So) 5 stolen bases, Landree Edstrom (Fr) with 3 stolen bases, 7 runs, Becky Benevides (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Kyra Jessop (Jr) with a 6.63 ERA, 6 hits and 5 RBI, Danica Foskey (Sr) with 8 runs, and Izzy Roth with 5 hits and 5 RBI.

Gunnison

Gunnison currently sits with a 3-1 record to start their season with a 3-1 overall record, with wins over Montezuma-Cortez 13-2 and 22-12 and Florence 6-3. Their lone loss so far this season was against Montrose 4 -14. The Cowboys will be looking to get more wins on their record this week and will be taking on Rocky Fordon 8/29 and Strasburg 8/30. Next week Gunnison will play Grand Junction on 9/2 to kick off play.

Stat leaders for the team so far this season are Mykala Singer (Fr) with 1 home run, 6 runs, and 7 hits, Caroline Sudderth (Sr) with 2 stolen bases, and 5 runs, Josie Vollendorf (So) with 2 stolen bases, Kaylee Vincent (Jr) with 1 stolen base and 12 RBI, Reese Japuntich (Jr) with a 3.71 ERA, Ashlyn Cowan (Sr) with 5 runs, Romie Uhrig (Sr) with 5 hits and 5 RBI, and Susan Espinoza (Fr) with 5 RBI.

Bennett

Bennett has currently played 3 games, 2 of which were league games, and have got wins over Alameda 19-0 and Fort Lupton 18-3, but lost to Weld Central 7-18. This gives the Tigers an overall record of 2-1 and a league record of 2-0. Bennett will wrap up this week by playing Forge Christian on 8/28 and Basalt on 8/30 in a double header. 

Leading the stat board for Bennett so far this season are Adelyn Westendorf (Fr) with 1 home run, 5 runs, 6 hits and 4 RBI, Jagoda Gutowska (Sr) with 2 stolen bases, 7 runs, and 6 hits, Macy Meyer (Fr) with 2 stolen bases, a 4.94 ERA, and 7 RBI, Sophia Wilson (Jr) with 1 stolen bases, Audrey Harrell (Jr) with a 9.33 ERA, Colby Robichaud (Sr) with a 22.75 ERA and 8 runs, Tori Dishong (Sr) with 6 hits, and Natalee Kalcevic (Sr) with 8 RBI.

Alamosa

Alamosa rounds out the top 16 MaxPreps teams with a 4-2 record, getting wins over Holyoke 14-2, Forge Christian 9-5, Burlington 18-2, Valley 14-4, and getting loses against Durango 5-6 and Pueblo Centennial 3-5. Alamosa does not have any games for the rest of this week and will resume play next week.
