Class 3A Softball Weekly Review and Preview

As we get into full swing of the season, we take a look at the top 16 team based on our own rankings. We will see how the first few weeks have been going for these teams, what is on deck, and the emerging stat leaders.

Eaton

Eaton is currently on a 7-game winning streak after losing their first game of the season to Wellington 8-9, giving them an overall record 7-1 so far this season. The Reds’ most recent wins have been over Berthoud 10-0, Severance 7-2, and Strasburg 10-0. Eaton will be looking to keep adding wins to their record as they will take on Southeast Colorado on 9/5 on the road, then they will face Palmer Ridge and Elizabeth on 9/6 and Sterling on 9/9.

Leading the stat board so far for Eaton are Emma Anderson (Jr) with 3 home runs, 5 stolen bases, 14 runs, 15 hits and 13 RBI, Bria Foster (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 0.82 ERA, 16 hits and 17 RBI, Johanna Galvan (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 0.62 ERA,  14 hits, and 15 RBI, Paige Hofer (Fr) with 5 stolen bases, Kenzie Braddy (So) with 5 stolen bases and 12 runs, and Brooklyn Minne (Sr) with 13 runs.

University

University continues their perfect record, going 9-0 overall so far this season. The most recent wins for the Bulldogs have been over Roosevelt 9-6, Northridge 10-3, Limon 10-0 and Sterling in their first league game of the season 14-1. This also gives University a 1-0 start to their league record, and they currently sit in 2nd in the Patriot League. The Bulldogs will be looking to maintain their perfect record this week and into next week and will be taking on Pueblo South on 9/5, Elizabeth and Palmer Ridge on 9/6, and Valley to start next week on 9/9.

Stat leaders for University so far this season are Natalie Galindo (Sr) with 3 home runs, 15 runs and 14 RBI, Jasi Cole (Sr) with 2 home runs, 6 stolen bases, a 0. 78 ERA, 16 runs, and 15 hits, Jocelyn Chacon (Jr) with 2 home runs and 12 RBI, Emma Zacheis (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, Kenzie Wyatt (Jr) with 4 stolen baes, a 0.00 ERA, 13 runs, and 15 hits, and Sydney Goetzel (Sr) with a 5.25 ERA, 13 hits and 12 RBI.

Southeast Colorado

The Angels have not had a lot of action yet this season, with their record still remaining at 1-0. Their win was in their home opener over Sierra 22-1. The team will be looking to have another win this week and will be hosting the Eaton Reds on 9/5 and then this weekend, Southeast Colorado will play against Pamona and Strasburg on 9/6. Next week the Angels will kick off play won the road to play Limon on 9/9.

Wellington

Wellington currently has a 4-1 overall record with wins over Eaton 9-8, Lyons 7-4, The Academy 13-6, and Berthoud 8-3. In the Eagles most recent game against Severance, the team lost 2-6, giving Wellington the 4-1 record and a 1-1 league record, leaving them 4th in the Longs Peak League. The team will be playing to add more wins to their record this week and into next week and will be playing Northridge on 9/4, Rocky Ford on 9/5, Sterling and Brush on 9/6, and Mountain View next week on 9/9.

Stat leaders for the Eagles are Taylor Morgan (Sr) with 1 home run and a 3.50 ERA, Camryn Strain (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, 8 runs, and 5 hits, Charley Somday (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, Kiley Newberry (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Kensley Story (Sr) with 7 runs, 9 hits and 5 RBI, Scarlet McGuire (Jr) with  4 runs, 6 hits, and 4 RBI, and Lauren Neal with 7 RBI.

Lyons

The Lions currently sit at 6-2 overall with a 0-1 league record and are sitting 4th in the Patriot League. In their most recent games, Lyons was able to beat Longmont 504 and Limon 13-0 but fell to Wellington 4-7 and Resurrection Christian 6-7 in 9 innings. The team will play today against Brush and will be playing to get another win added to their overall record and their league record. Next week, the team will start play on 9/8 against The Academy and then the Lions will be on the road to Weld Central on 9/9 and Timnath on 9/11.

Stat leaders for the Lions are Gretta Wynja (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 1.91 ERA, 13 hits, and 15 RBI, Dahlia Oviatt (So) with 1 home run, 3 stolen bases, 12 hits and 13 RBI, Autumn Johnsey (Jr) with 1 home run and 10 RBI, Taylor Dickes (Fr) with 2 stolen bases and 10 runs, Ava Vasquez (Jr) with 2 stolen bases and 15 runs, and Greta Hildebrand (Fr) with 11 runs and 10 hits.

The Classical Academy

TCA so far this season are 3-1 overall with wins over Canon City 12-4 and 12-6, and Peak to Peak 16-3. The lone loss on the Titans record so far this season was against Cheyenne Mountain 2-9. The team will be looking to add more wins and bounce back from their loss today as they will take on Rampart on the road. Then the team will play Fort Collins and Prairie View on 9/5, Roosevelt and Mead on 9/6 and will start next weeks play on 9/9 against Sierra.

Leading the Titans so far this season on the stat board are Ada Wilson (Jr) with 1 home run, 2 stolen bases, a 4.42 ERA, 7 runs, 7 hits, and 5 RBI, Khaiyah Bacon (Sr) with 1 home run, 2 stolen bases and 7 runs, Basil Murphy (Fr) with 1 home run, a 4.67 ERA, 6 runs, and 7 hits, Taytum Kimbro (So) with 2 stolen bases, 8 hits and 4 RBI, and Carina Passarelli (Fr) with 6 RBI.

Strasburg

The Indians lost their most recent game that was against Eaton yesterday 0-10, but won their previous 6 games, including Gunnison 17-1 and Rocky Ford 3-2. Strasburg is currently 6-2 overall with a 0-1 league record with the loss to Eaton, and are currently 5th in the Patriot League. The team will be looking to bounce back this weekend and add more wins to their record as they with play Pomona on 9/5, Pueblo South and Southeast Colorado on 9/6, and then will start next weeks’ play against Resurrection Christian on 9/9.

Leaders on the stat board for the team are Addi Kent (Jr) with 3 home runs, 4 stolen bases, 13 runs, 11 hits and 13 RBI, Phebe Johnson (Jr) with 2 home runs, a 7.21 ERA, and 8 RBI, Wynne Winter (Jr) with 1 home run, 14 runs and 11 hits, Payton Weaver (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, 10 hits, and 12 RBI, Rachel Rupple (Sr) with 4 stolen bases, and Paisley Selle (So) with 8 runs.

La Junta

La Junta currently has a 5-2 overall record, their most recent games resulting in wins over Limon 11-9 and Burlington 5-3 and a loss to Pueblo Centennial 1-8. The Tigers will kick off September play on 9/5 by facing Cheyenne Mountain and Sand Creek where they will be looking to get a couple of wins to add to their record. Next week the team will start league play against Lamar at home on 9/9.

Leaders on the teams’ stat board so far this season are Rylie Ortiz (So) with 1 home run, 3 hits and 3 RBI, Isabelle Aragon (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, a 1.33 ERA, and 2 runs, Ramie Gonzalez (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Ayanna Torrez (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, Chloe Numez (So) with 3 runs, 2 hits and 1 RBI, Natalya Herrera (Jr) with 3 runs, and Marli Gonzales (Jr) with 5 hits and 3 RBI.

The Academy

The Academy currently has an overall record of 5-4, beating Wray/Yuma 16-3, Platte Valley 10-9, Woodland Park 14-7 and Greeley Central 18-0, but falling to Wellington 6-13. The Wildcats will be looking to keep their record on the winning side tonight as they travel to Weld Central. Next week, the Wildcats will then go to Lyons to play on 9/8. League play will then start for the team on 9/9 against Jefferson Academy.

Stat leaders for The Academy so far this season are Keara Pogue (Jr) with 1 home run, 11 stolen bases, an 11.72 ERA, 15 runs, 13 hits and 13 RBI, Savannah Tolitsky (Fr) with 7 stolen bases, Finley Stark (Fr) with 6 stolen bases, 14 runs, 11 hits, and 10 RBI, Aubree D’ambrosio (So) with a 4.59 ERA, 8 hits and 7 RBI, Leyla Martin (Jr) with a 10.50 ERA, and Harper Scott (So) with 11 runs.

Alamosa

The Mean Moose are currently 5-2 on the season with a loss to Pueblo Centennial 3-5 that snapped their 4-game win streak and a win over Montezuma-Cortez 12-3. Alamosa will be looking to continue their strong start this Friday when they will play both Mesa Ridge and George Washington on 9/6. The team will then start league play and will travel to Rocky Ford on 9/9 and will be looking to start their league record off strong with a win.

Leading the stat board for the Moose are Leah Higareda (Jr) with 3 stolen bases, Taelynn Kreps-Smith (Sr) with 2 stolen bases, 2 runs, 2 hits and 1 RBI, Shaya Martin (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, 3 runs and 4 hits, Olivia Castillo (Jr) with a 3.50 ERA, Hallie DuPont (Sr) with 4 hits and 3 RBI, and Araceli Molina with 2 RBI.

Lamar

The Thunder currently have an overall record of 3-4, with losses to Guymon 2-10, Eaton 1-12, University 1-5, and Strasburg 10-12, but with wins over Meeker 6-2, Wray/Yuma 4-0 and Burlington 12-0. Lamar will be trying to get their record on the winning side of things this weekend as they will play Falcon and Pueblo East on 9/5, then on 9/6 they will have an additional two tournament games. After hopefully getting some more wins on their record, the team will then start league play against La Junta on 9/9.

The  Thunders’ stat leaders so far this season are Khloe Fernandez (Sr) with 5 stolen bases, 9 runs, and 9 hits, Yahirett Roman (Fr) with 5 stolen bases and 5 RBI, Carlin Weber (So) with 4 stolen bases, a 3.97 ERA, 4 runs, 9 hits and 8 RBI, Roslyn Gonzales (Fr) with 4 runs, and Alexa Aguilar (Sr) with 9 hits and 3 RBI.

Forge Christian

The Fury currently sit at 10-1 overall, with their recent wins being over Mullen 12-11, Peak to Peak 7-0, Bennett 16-0, Wray/ Yuma 13-0 and 12-0, and Platte Valley 14-0. The win over Peak to Peak was the first league game for Forge Christian, giving the team a 1-0 league record to start the season and putting them 1st in the Denver Metro League. The Fury will be looking to 8 game win streak alive tonight as they will take on Green Mountain. Next week, play will start for the team against Mullen on 9/10.

Leaders on the stat board for Forge Christian is Rio Beck (Sr) with 12 stolen bases, 26 runs, 23 hits and 16 RBI, Maxine Rossi (Jr) with 9 stolen bases and 16 hits, Vivian Stults (Jr) with 8 stolen bases and 17 runs, Julianna Alfaro (Jr) with a 2.66 ERA, Kaedence Miller (Jr) with 18 runs, and Honor Kuyper (Jr) with 20 RBI.

Brush

The Beetdiggers are currently 4-1 overall on the season with wins over Northfield 14-8, Mountain View 10-7, Fountain-Fort Carson 10-0, and Ralston Valley 8-7. Their lone loss of the season so far was in their most recent game against Mountain Vista where they lost 4-12. Brush will be looking to shake off that loss and get a win tonight over Lyons. The team will then be looking to play Limon, Rocky Ford, and Florence on 9/5, Wellington on 9/6, and Platte Valley next week on 9/9.

Leaders on the stat board for Brush are Jolie Tuck (So) with 4 stolen bases, 4 runs, and 6 hits, Isabella Mesch (Fr) with 2 stolen bases, Gracie Martinez (Jr) with 2 stolen bases, 6 runs, and 6 hits, Emry Chard (So) with a 1.40 ERA, Elizabeth Peckham (So) with a 2.55 ERA, Tatim Chard (Fr) with 5 runs, Jade Shum (Jr) with 6 hits, Izabella Talmich (Fr) with 7 RBI and Angelique Schrum (Sr) with 4 RBI.

Cedaredge

The Bruins currently sit with a 5-1 overall record, a 4-0 league record, and 1st in the Western Slope League. In the most recent games, Cedaredge beat Basalt 13-1 and 18-8 but fell to Durango in a tight battle of 3-4. The team will continue play tonight and will host Delta and will be looking to add that game to their win column. Cedaredge will then take on Gunnison on 9/6 and will start next week with a double header against Aspen on 9/8.

Leaders on the stat board for the Bruins are Tia Homedew (Jr) with 2 home runs, 5 stolen bases, 2.62 ERA, 12 runs, 12 hits, and 15 RBI, Meri Hollenback (So) with 1 home run and 15 runs, Kiera Stroh (Jr) with 5 stolen bases, 17 runs, and 11 RBI, Jewel Laliberte (Sr) with 3 stolen bases and 11 hits, and Mia Gallegos (Fr) with 10 hits and 13 RBI.

Jefferson Academy

Jefferson Academy starts their season with a 2-1 overall record, beating Englewood 7-6 and 21-7 and losing to Kennedy 14-15. The Jaguars will be looking to get another win added to their record as they will be taking on Wheat Ridge today on the road, and then the team will play Arvada and Alameda on 9/5, Lincoln on 9/6 and then will kick off next week against The Academy on 9/9.

Stat leaders for Jefferson Academy are Ellie Arnold (Jr) with 4 stolen bases, 8 runs, and 6 hits, Lybbie Ortega (Sr) with 3 stolen bases and 5 runs, Daelin Ruff (So) with 3 stolen bases and 3 RBI, Aubrey Cox (Sr) with a 6.66 ERA and 7 runs, Riley Clark (Sr) with a 7.00 ERA, Hannah Stumpher (Sr) with 4 hits and Chloe Mooney (So) with 4 hits and 7 RBI.

Platte Valley

The Broncos currently site with a 4-3 overall record, most recently beating Eagle Valley 15-10, and losing to Basalt 18-19 and Forge Christian 0-14. Platte Valley will be looking to get more wins this weekend as they will play Valley on 9/4 at home, them the team will play Limon and Wellington on 9/5 and Rocky Ford and Wray/Yuma on 9/6. Next week the Broncos will play Brush on the road on 9/9.

Leading the stat board for Platte Valley are Alyssa Kendrick (Fr) with 1 home run, 8 stolen bases, a 9.65 ERA,  14 runs, 12 hits and 13 RBI, Sydney Meyer (Sr) with 9 stolen bases, 9 hits and 9 RBI, Haylee Bauer (So) with 5 stolen bases, Kyra Jessop (Jr) with a 8.40 ERA, 9 hits and 9 RBI, and Landree Edstrom (Fr) with 13 runs.
